Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP) is an international NGO that works with policy-makers and industry to end the availability of lead paint, a major source of lead poisoning globally. In this talk, Clare Donaldson describes how LEEP has been able to drive policy change in several low- and middle-income countries in its first 18 months and reflect on some possible lessons learnt for the Effective Altruism community. "You've probably heard that Elon Musk, Stuart Russell, and Stephen Hawking warn of dangers posed by AI. What are these risks, and what basis do they have in AI practice? Rohin Shah will first describe the more philosophical argument that suggests that a superintelligent AI system pursuing the wrong goal would lead to an existential catastrophe.
