A CONVERSATION WITH ANNE PITMAN ABOUT DEATH & DYING
Listen to the full episode by supporting us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/yogatherapyhourAmy talks to Anne Pitman from Ottowa, Canada about yoga therapy, death and dying. This is a spacious discussion that will leave you exploring the wonder of transitions. It may even make you feel lighter inside. Anne Pitman has been studying death and dying for 12 years and has some gems to share with us yoga teachers and yoga therapists. Anne says we will never master the fear of death, but we can be more prepared for it. We can feel less lonely and alone. We can create a plan for ourselves and our loved ones. We can ponder and discuss something that will happen to every single one of us.· Anne has a passion for integrative oncology and helping students prepare for the inevitable death that we will all face.· Anne gives us some clues about how we can prepare for death and why it is important.· She talks about using Savasana, or Corpse Pose, in your class as preparation for the final breaths.· She talks about how the breath leaving our body is part of the dying process, all day every day and then in the final moments of being in this physical body on earth.· Anne tells us about an upcoming program that she will guide us through contemplation of death and dying (12 months, once a month for a few hours).· Anne also talks about how the purpose of yoga is to prepare for death.· She says that working in death and dying is not too difficult for her. She has learned to expand her perspective.· Anne says that when we die, maybe you or I is not the focus. Maybe death itself is the focus of a death done well.· Anne talks about her upcoming book “Yoga Therapy Across the Cancer Care Continuum” by Leigh Leibel and Anne Pitman (Handspring Publishers) Today’s podcasts is sponsored by: Optimal Statehttps://theoptimalstate.com/ Anne Pitman’s website is: https://www.annepitman.caHer upcoming course on death and dying: https://www.annepitman.ca/classes-and-eventsHer upcoming book on Cancer Care: https://www.handspringpublishing.com/our-authors/anne-pitman/ If you would like to receive the free infographics or handouts that correspond to each episode on the Yoga Therapy Hour Podcast, please subscribe to our segmented email list.
