390. Repairing the Rupture with Clint Davis

Today, Johnny chats with Clint Davis about his new book, “Building Better Bridges,” and what modern parenting should look like. What does it mean to truly model for our children? Parenting can be tough, especially if we’re learning and dealing with our trauma. Clint tells us what we need to do to ensure we don’t pass that trauma on to our children and the next generation. We have to set our ego aside to show empathy and model the behaviors we want our children to attain. We have to repair the wounds we have with our children, so they don’t turn into the traumas we have from our parents. Don’t let pride stop you. Clint also suggests that we challenge it and check our pride at the door. They also discuss how we can model behavior for our kids, without imposing or projecting our trauma. We need to build bridges to save our kids.Clint Davis is an army veteran, ordained minister, and licensed psychotherapist. He owns Clint Davis Counseling and Integrative Wellness. He hosts the “Asking Why” podcast and is a best-selling author of his new book, "Building Better Bridges: A Guidebook to Having Difficult Conversations that Can Save Our Children." Check out his TED talk “The Sex Talks We Never Had, That Can Save Our Kids.” He also encourages listeners to call and email him at clintdaviscounseling@gmail.com to tell him your stories and ask him specific questions about your kids.Today on The Art of Masculinity:Clint’s military, personal history, and what led him to counselingWe’re all in this together. 387. The Power to Shed Pain

As a man, it can be hard to be seen as strong and vulnerable at the same time. Today Johnny talks about the value of vulnerability. Why you should be vulnerable, how you should do it, and when you should do it. Opening up is what’s going to make you stronger as a man.   Start breaking the silence because the silence around the shame is the killer. Understanding your shame and guilt is key because it stems from a moral and ethical violation. Get it at its roots and yank it out. But know that sometimes, you can’t pull it out by yourself. Johnny also talks about why society doesn’t expect men to be vulnerable and how men can regain their power by being authentic to themselves. That journey starts with opening up. Head over to iTunes and give us a five-star review. Let everybody know what you love about the show so you can hopefully help another man along his journey and hopefully find that authenticity he's so crazed in his life. Today on The Art of Masculinity: What does masculinity look like Forcing ourselves to participate in vulnerability Opening up to your brothers and in your own time The physical stuff is easy, but it’s difficult to sacrifice emotionally Society doesn’t expect men to be able to be vulnerable Communicating your deep shame Regain your power by getting through to yourself Empower your authenticity by being authentic to you  If you loved this episode or the podcast in general go ahead and subscribe and turn on notifications so you are notified when each new episode is released! 386. How to Have Courage to be Coached

In this episode, Johnny talks with Frank Paul Vignola about courage, coaching, and confidence consciousness. They do a deep dive into the trajectory and evolution of the current socially accepted view of masculinity and how it has changed over the years. Is masculinity a pendulum? Does it swing back and forth between the strong man and the overly sensitive man? Frank's mission is to help men cultivate an unswerving sense of identity and then translate that knowledge into actions. Through repeated implementation of their character strengths and in alignment with their values, he helps men achieve self-mastery and become leaders, exemplars, and high achievers. His early life was plagued with battles - bullying, expulsions, overdoses, and then a 4-year string of incarcerations that almost killed him. Overcoming those challenges gifted him with a determination to develop a formula to help men summon their inner superheroes. After 10+ years as a coach for men, he continues implementing his 3-pillar formula today: Identity, Integration, Implementation & Iteration.  Frank also has 7 years of experience training and working as an actor in New York City. Believing actors are masters at building an identity, he incorporates several personal acting techniques into his coaching. Throughout his career, Frank searched for parallels in qualities men admire in other men and want for themselves. In 2023, he turned his findings into the autobiographical how-to-guide for men, "Crafting Masculinity." When Frank isn't obsessively peering deep into the abyss of human behavior, he loves traveling, bodybuilding, horror movies, irreverent humor, and spending time with his family.   Find more about Frank on his website or connect with him on Instagram. Today on The Art of Masculinity: Coaching, personal training, and how they are similar  Men’s hang-ups on coaching and toxic mindsets How coaching is changing and how you can influence positive change The swing in the masculinity space and what perpetuates the divide The story behind Frank’s book, Crafting Masculinity The pushback for the stereotypical strongman Impacting people and change Loving, crafting, and celebrating our own masculinity  If you loved this episode or the podcast in general go ahead and subscribe and turn on notifications so you are notified when each new episode is released!
