Rooting Out Imbalances: Ayurveda and the Journey to Wellness with Sarah L. Frederiksen -50
Are you a mother whose felt overwhelmed by the emotional and energetic demands of motherhood?Or someone whose felt disconnected from your body due to illness, discomfort, or other struggles?Or possibly someone who’s struggled to find the way your many interests align?Whichever one speaks to you -today’s guest is someone whose journey is one you'll connect to.Sarah's personal journey toward wellness led her to draw from past experience as well as build upon the things that she found value in and utilize a lot of grit. Join today's conversation and learn more about the importance of feeling emotions in one's body and working through them, rather than relying solely on cognitive processes. Listen in as Sarah discusses the importance of connecting with our bodies and how Ayurveda can serve as a tool to achieve this. The use of Ayurveda allows for tackling multiple issues with one recommendation, and Sarah's approach digs deep to bring an individual's body back to balance. It requires determination and effort (there's that grit!) to choose holistic methods for wellness because society emphasizes quicker, easier solutions which only serve as band-aids. Sarah offers examples throughout our conversation of tools she offers clients to truly get to the root of their challenges.Sarah L. Frederiksen is a Health + Wellness Counselor and Educator using eastern and western sciences to help others step out of toxic inter-generational behaviors, choose health, happiness, and healing, and elevate to their higher potential. After years of exploring seemingly disparate careers in Italian, Buddhism, and early childhood, it was not until becoming a mother that Sarah was forced to reexamine her life path and experience of wellness.Unexpectedly overwhelmed by the emotional, energetic, and physiological demands of motherhood, Sarah returned to and more deeply immersed herself in the wellness practices of her past. Her hunger for knowledge has resulted in a Master’s degree in child and family development, multiple certificates, training in Yoga and Yoga Therapy as well as Ayurveda. She is currently working on her certification as an Ayurveda Practitioner. She currently connects with others through her business Elevate You Well, where she offers consultations, classes, and workshops to individuals, families, and groups. Celebrate Accomplishments Big & Small to Fuel Success -49
Are you giving yourself credit where credit is due? How much effort are you putting into doing *all* the things, versus celebrating all the things you are getting done? Is your focus on all the gains... or the gap? Today's episode is about focusing on the gain and about recognizing what we have accomplished and being intentional about where we put our focus. Celebrating how far we've come is the fuel we need to keep propelling our hard work forward. Join the conversation and spend some time reflecting on how far you've come. In this episode you'll also learn some ways to incorporate a regular plan of taking stock and some tools that will support this. This can be especially valuable for folks working from home, middle managers, and mothers who may not be getting validation and kudos from other sources.I've also officially changed the title of our Self Care segment to "Self-Maintenance Moment" because I think we could all use that mindset shift. We need to acknowledge that time is a finite resource. To appreciate and focus our time better, we need to reframe our mindset and view self-maintenance activities as an investment in ourselves. I think you'll appreciate this week's example. It is a good reminder that it's never too late to reverse direction and prioritize taking care of yourself. Money, and Mindset: Real Conversations with a Financial Coach -45
If you've been struggling with your finances, then you won't want to miss the latest episode of our podcast. Our guest is a Financial Coach that you can relate to, as walking the talk is what led her to her line of work. Your jaw will drop when you learn how quickly she and her husband paid off $245,000 in debt, and the list of other expenses they were still able to cover while doing it.We keep the conversation relatable as we discuss such things as the feeling of shame that many of us attach to how we handle our money. For me, I have a hard time working around this belief that if I work hard, I deserve nice things, when in fact our self-worth should never be measured in material possessions, and working hard doesn't always equate a bank account that can afford those things. We don't just look at beliefs though, we cover a variety of topics related to money management, including planning for retirement, reducing debt, and setting financial goals. Our speakers also share some inspiring stories of people who were able to pay off significant amounts of debt and create a better financial future for themselves. It is an encouraging reminder that it's never too late to turn around your finances and create the future you desire. As a financial coach, and speaker, Amy Greene guides her clients to financial possibilities they never knew were within their reach. She guides her clients to learn sound money management skills, behaviors, habits, and mindsets that lead them to the life they desire. Amy is passionate about helping active families live without the stress, fear, and worry of money issues so they can live a life they love and leave a legacy for future generations.Connect with Amy:Website: www.amygreenefc.comSocial Media: Instagram and FB- @amygreenefc5 Day Marriage & Money Transformation ChallengeStay Connected to The Grit ShowFollow us on Instagram: @The.Grit.Show or Shawna @ShawnaPodcastsGrab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & as a bonus, you’ll get weekly email reminders when episodes come out!https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comYou can also purchase the full-size gift worthy Color of Grit Adult Coloring Book here bit.ly/TGSMermaidReally love us and want to show it??Give us a review on your favorite platform and share this (or any) episode with a friend. Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her on Connection, Community, & Collaboration -43
This week we are doing things a little differently! You get the opportunity to experience a Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her Podcast with Diane Schroeder. I am sharing with you “Connection, Community, and Collaboration” which features a guest from Oregon (my home state, and where I currently live, so definitely a bonus). Diane’s podcast is part of the Authentic Connections Network, the podcast network I founded to address the lack of women’s voices in podcasting. Her podcast focuses on Self-Care, Authenticity, Community, and all the things that I know each of you cares about as well. This episode is just a taste, and she is already a few episodes into her second season, so there is lots of good stuff for you to discover. This week she is even featuring an episode on mothers and daughters, featuring a conversation with her mom.The beautiful thing about a network founded by a woman focused on amplifying women’s voices is that the focus is on making the workflow easier for women. Lifting each other and supporting each other. Some of this episode from Diane’s podcast talks about the support of other women and the magic that happens when we find and support community. Small warning that part of the authenticity on Diane’s podcast means it does get an E-rating so that she and her guests don’t feel guarded in the language they use. Very much in alignment with Brene Brown and keeping it real. So, if you listen with kids around and prefer that they don’t hear that language, wear earbuds! At the end of my intro, I also mention that I am launching a never-been-done-before model of the network where a cohort of women will launch their podcasts together after a summer incubator. If you have a podcast brewing or know someone who *needs* to amplify their voice and launch a podcast, have them get in touch with me! Sleep: The Cinderella of Good Health -41
Is sleep something you ignore? Something you think of as less important? Today’s guest refers to it as the “Cinderella” of good health for this very reason. It’s the thing we don’t pay attention to or notice, especially if it is going well. Sleep is something we take for granted. If you’ve gone through a period when sleep doesn’t come easily, you know how disruptive lack of sleep can be. However, you may not have given much thought to all the varied impacts it can have on your day and your health. We rarely see the line that connects sleep to so many other pieces of our life and our functioning.France Taylor shares valuable information in today’s conversation; everything from how you know when you have a sleeping problem to how much sleep you need and whether cherries or bananas might magically help us get our Zzzzzs. Frances Taylor is a Sleep Expert and Fellow of The International Stress Management Association (UK), with over 15 years’ experience facilitating resilience events in diverse settings, from Universities to international film studios. During her work Frances realized that there was a missing piece when it came to people’s health and wellbeing – the importance of sleep. She decided to devote herself to providing engaging and highly practical sleep programs drawing on clinically tested approaches that work. Her therapeutic practice is based on CBTi – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, the first line treatment in the UK and also highly rated in the States. Her online programmes and 1:1 coaching show people how to sleep well, work well, and live well within just a few weeks, without medication.Best ways to connect with Frances:Her website: https://sleepwell.todayLinked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/francestaylor/Here’s the Sleep Diagnostic Tool Frances mentioned:https://sleepwell.today/sleep-diagnostic/You can also find her online course here:https://sleepwell.today/fundamentals-programme/We'd love to connect more with you.Grab your copy of our Self-Care Coloring Pages & get added to our mailing list. https://ColoringPages.TheGritShow.comFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/The.Grit.Show/Our Website has more information about us, all of our episodes, and all the transcripts:TheGritShow.com Are you ready to take that next step in your self-care journey?
