Shepherding Words (6) | Concerning Allegorizing the Bible

Finally, be empowered in the Lord and in the might of His strength. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil, For our wrestling is not against blood and flesh but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenlies. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13. As believers who love the Lord and who are standing for His testimony, we must not be ignorant of the schemes of God’s enemy in his attacks on the church. In order to help educate and inoculate us against such attacks, the co-workers in North America have released a series of articles on ShepherdingWords.com, which expose the stratagems of the devil. This week, we have a narration of the article entitled “Concerning Allegorizing the Bible,” originally published on October 26, 2020. Allegorizing the Bible means to extract the spiritual meaning from the literal words of the Bible. Some people argue that it is wrong to allegorize any portion of the Bible that is not explicitly interpreted in the New Testament. However, throughout the centuries many reputable Bible teachers have recognized that many portions of the Scriptures symbolize spiritual truths, in addition to their literal meaning. This article lays out some of these portions and explains three important principles in interpreting the Bible’s figurative language. May the Lord supply us through this speaking and equip us to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. This week, we have a narration of the article entitled “Forgiveness and the Building Up of the Body of Christ,” originally published on March 31, 2021. In the New Testament, the matter of forgiveness is intimately tied to the practice of the church life. In fact, forgiveness is a crucial factor in practicing the church life for the building up of the Body of Christ. Using examples from the Word and from Witness Lee’s ministry, this article clearly lays out this relationship so that we may learn to forgive one another as God in Christ forgave us (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13). May the Lord supply us through this speaking and equip us to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
