In her search for fantasy stories with a middle-aged black woman protganist, Tatiana Obey came up short. As a result, she wrote her upcoming novel, Sistah Samurai, an homage to the anime classic, Afro Samurai, and pulling in inspiration from other anime and written works to put together a piece of literature that spoke to her. Like many of us he grew up loving comic books and imagining the worlds that they inhabit. JCM Berne is the author of Wistful Ascending and the Hybrid Helix series, which is an homage to the comic books he loves reading, as well as the genre of science fiction. His works have been of course compared to the familiar Guardians of the Galaxy, but of course JCM draws his inspiration from a variety of the science fiction that he’s consumed throughout his life.
