Ep 12 - Tatiana Obey — It's About Damn Time — Writing Black Women in Action Fantasy

Author Toni Morrison once said “If you find a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” Today’s guest took that advice to heart. In her search for fantasy stories with a middle-aged black woman protganist, Tatiana Obey came up short. As a result, she wrote her upcoming novel, Sistah Samurai, an homage to the anime classic, Afro Samurai, and pulling in inspiration from other anime and written works to put together a piece of literature that spoke to her.

It’s an inspirational tale, and we have an introspective chat about the novel, the subgenre of Action Fantasy, as well as Tatiana’s journey into writing.
