Jamie Gold, self-proclaimed couch potato turned obstacle course racer: Risk being uncomfortable | ep 8

Jamie Gold is a self-proclaimed couch potato turned athlete; In the wake of the financial crisis of 2008, she was sedentary and as she put it “checked out” when her husband announced he wanted a divorce. Knowing something had to change, she started swimming laps in her neighborhood pool. Today she’s Mayo Clinic Certified Wellness Coach, wellness design consultant, and the author of three books. The latest, which is Wellness by Design, gives people actionable strategies to modify their homes in ways that support their health- on any budget. Since turning 50, she’s done marathons, half marathons, obstacle course races including a Spartan trifecta, and has summited Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 states. Bobbe Greenberg: 74-year-old Ironman Legend

Guest bioBobbe Greenberg is the real deal. She learned to swim in her 50’s and now at 74, she’s completed 14 full Ironman triathlons, over 30 half-Ironmans, as well as countless other running and swimming races. This fall, she’ll be competing in the Hawaii Ironman World Championships for the eighth time. It's complicated. You start telling yourself maybe it wasn't such a good idea in the first place... or you keep thinking you'll go after it when you've done more research, after you've taken another course, read another book... because you're afraid of failing. Sound familiar? This episode has your name on it in BIG-ASS letters. Liz McDonough, Ironman triathlete: letting go of perfection and feeling all the feelings (even the crappy ones)

Born and raised in upstate New York’s breathtaking Adirondack mountains, her surroundings cultivated her love for the outdoors from a young age. After earning a bachelor’s in ceramic engineering and an MBA, she became certified in personal training, health coaching, TRX training, and Training for Warriors. She is the single mom of two amazing boys and loves anything the involves being outdoors; her favorite sports are biking (road and mountain), running, hiking, climbing, skiing, and snowshoeing. Liz’s passions are exercise, outdoors, adventure travel/sports with her boys, healthy cooking/baking, family, and reading.  Among her many athletic achievements are six marathon finishes (including Boston), one Ironman (Lake Placid), placing third in the 2019 Sea to Summit race, and racing road bikes as a Cat 1 cyclist. In this interview, we went deep and had a blast.
