Elise Cranny is a professional runner for Nike and the Bowerman Track Club. Originally from Niwot, Colorado, she was a 12-time All-American at Stanford University and has been running professionally since 2019. Elise competed in the 5,000m at the Tokyo Olympics this summer, making her childhood dream a reality. She’s also a mentor for girls 13-22 years old through a platform called Voice in Sport. In March 2019, Kara climbed Kilimanjaro with the Cury Kili Crew, an all-women’s group of curvy hikers, for International Women’s Day. Their journey is the basis for the documentary. Gwen Buchanan, physical therapist and Appalachian Trail thru-hiker: Give yourself space for grief and transitions ep. 21
Since she was 13 years old, Gwen Buchanan dreamed of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Two serious car accidents, four rounds of rehab, and one major loss later, in August 2021, at the age of 51, she fulfilled her dream.Gwen is a physical therapist and ten-time marathoner living in Mehoopany, PA with her husband and pets. Like many endurance athletes, Stephanie Roth-Goldberg assumed her weight played a big role in her performance. As a marathoner and an Ironman triathlete, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with chronically missing her period. It took a cycle of multiple injuries for her to realize there was, in fact, something seriously wrong with the picture. Today Stephanie is a psychotherapist, psychoanalyst, and specialist in eating disorders. She’s also the founder of Intuitive Psychotherapy NYC, a small group practice that specializes in working with folks with eating disorders from an anti-diet, Health At Every Size approach. A retired runner and gym rat, who now prefers walking, hiking, and swimming, Vanessa Gorelkin is is an occupational therapist with a telehealth practice that helps people access their unique and inherent strengths and connect their notions of body and mind to enhance their quality of life.Before moving to Arizona, where she lives with her husband and son, Vanessa served as an administrator of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Medical Center and as Senior Vice President of Operations at Planned Parenthood. She returned to direct clinical practice in 2014 when she joined the Mayo Clinic in Arizona as a licensed Occupational Therapist. There, she worked in an outpatient clinic where she helped patients with chronic illness and other stressors regain their prior level of function. She was appointed Instructor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Mayo Medical School in 2015 and is an Associate in the Mayo Clinic Academy of Academic Excellence.
