Can You Train Less and Gain More? With Mindful Mover Philip Chubb | EMP Podcast 62

Hello everyone, welcome back to another episode of the Evolve Move Play Podcast. In this episode I'll be interviewing the Mindful Mover himself, Philip Chubb! Philip specializes in teaching people strength development using gymnastic strength and barbell training, and he is highly influenced by the ideas of high intensity training and Nassim Taleb. I really enjoyed talking to Phil and I think that he has a lot to say that can help people get more out of their practice with less invested time, which is especially critical for those of us who have busy schedules, or who just don’t want to spend 3-6 days a week in the gym. I've personally implemented many of Philips ideas around being more efficient in the use of our time and our training and how to get more out of each set and rep. An Anthropological Look at Human Tree Climbing with George Brill | EMP Podcast 61

Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play Podcast. This week our guest is George Brill! George is a young anthropologist and athlete who trains in ultra running, rock climbing, and freediving. I ran into his fascinating research on the Batek people of Peninsular Malaysia, who are famous for their unique social systems and egalitarianism as well as being one of the most capable tree-climbing cultures on the planet. In this conversation we go deep into anthropological theory, evolutionary and cultural backgrounds, how human beings evolved their locomotive capacities, as well as the intersection between spirituality, movement and traditional lifestyles, which I think you guys will find really fascinating. Exploring The Parkour Roadmap With Max Henry | EMP Podcast 60

Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play Podcast! This week our guest is Max Henry, a veteran of the parkour scene and the author of The Parkour Roadmap. Max is a very thoughtful guy who has traveled all over the world and done extensive stunt work and worked at a very high level within parkour. I was initially interested in touching base with him also because he's taken interest in the philosophical side of the sport and understanding the hero's journey and how that applies to our practice within parkour. Among other things, in this chat we dug deep into Max's personal physical practice and how he builds himself up and prepares for challenges. I think if you are interested in how high level parkour is practiced, and how people build up for that practice, this is gonna be a really fantastic interview for you to watch. An Unexpected Hope Discussing Covid - 19 With Spencer Wells EMP Podcast 56 Sc

Something incredibly interesting is happening in Southeast Asia and it may just spark some hope for dealing with Covid-19. Check out the 2nd half of our conversation with Spencer Wells today on the EMP Podcast. 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! However, by studying treatments for other serious diseases like smallpox and looking into the unexpected turn of events in southeast Asia where Covid-19 has had nearly no effect on countries like Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, Spencer is not without hope. So we'll be discussing the situation as it stands, worse case scenarios, what solutions are no longer viable, and which solutions we may be able to turn to to combat the spread of Covid-19. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/emp-podcast-ep-56-spencer-wells/ ------------------------------ ✅ Join The Embodied Movement Summit ✅ https://summit.evolvemoveplay.com/?utm_medium=organic_social&utm_source=emp_podcast&utm_campaign=embodied_movement_summit_2020 Join Kelly Starrett, Sebastian Foucan, Julie Angel, Paul Chek, John Vervaeke and 20+ other world class experts on movement, mindfulness, community and nature connection practices... brought together for one free event! Evolution, Covid - 19 And Natural Selection With Spencer Wells: EMP Podcast 55

Today we're joined by geneticist, anthropologist, author, entrepreneur, and adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Spencer Wells! He's going to help us take a closer look at human evolution and share his insights on the current state of the coronavirus pandemic. 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! (if you haven't already) --------------- 🗒️ SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Intro 05:47 - Considering Covid-19 13:39 - Evolutionary Myths and Misconceptions 29:14 - Risk and Immunity 34:21 - Engineering vs Complex Systems 41:14 - Natural Selection 46:46 - The Origins of Europeans and Puerto Ricans 01:09:29 - The Disease Drive 01:18:02 - Outro A big reason that we lean into the study of play so much is because it’s a profoundly powerful learning system that exists to drive us towards our most genetically relevant skills and abilities. Children climb, jump, roughhouse, throw and creatively use objects like sticks and stones because those physical abilities have been crucial for the survival of our species for an incredibly long time. Yet biology and evolution are incredibly complex and when it comes to human health, it can be easy to fall into the trap of reductionism. There will never be any diet or movement routine that can act as a definitive cure-all for the entire population. Even routines that work wonders for one person can be ineffective or detrimental to another person, so it’s highly important to keep an objective mindset and pay attention to nuance when looking to build a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The fact that our evolutionary heritage is both highly relevant and staggeringly complex means that we should look to experts like our guest Spencer Wells to draw insights from that can help ground our understanding and make better decisions about our health as modern day humans. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/emp-podcast-ep-55-spencer-wells/ --------------- ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats! Meaning, Balance and Spirituality With John Vervaeke: EMP Podcast 54

John Vervaeke is back on the podcast! Today we'll be having a balanced and thoughtful discussion on spirituality and how it can help or hinder us on our path to living a more meaningful life. 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! (if you haven't already) ------------------------------ 🗒️ SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Intro 08:01 - The Spiritual Connection 25:10 - Pointing at God 35:45 - Spirituality, Naturalism, and the Ambivalent Feminine 58:55 - Critiquing Peterson 01:11:33 - Postmodernism and the Integral Phase 01:24:30 - Recovering the Bones of the Father 01:30:24 - Outro In today’s episode of the EMP Podcast we have John Vervaeke back for a discussion that circles around the concept of balance in spirituality, culture, philosophy and life. In a lot of ways this is a continuation of the concepts we presented last time John was on the show; chiefly of the importance of the sage archetype for it’s expert ability to understand and draw wisdom from many sources— even those that may seem to be at complete odds with one another. This is a staggeringly difficult process, and it’s made even harder by the fact that many of the guiding doctrines and institutions we have available to us do little to cultivate a broad and balanced viewpoint of the world. In fact many actively guide us away from that balance. So in today’s conversation we’re going to dive into some of the ways this shows up in our culture and how it has a lasting effect on our ability to find meaning in life and develop deep connections to ourselves and the world around us. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/meaning-balance-spirituality-john-v-ep-54/ ✅ ------------------------------ ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats!
