Stop Chasing Pain PART 2 with Perry Nickelston: EMP Podcast 52

You don't have to be injured to experience a great deal of physical pain. Dr. Perry is here to help us find out how to begin the process of healing our emotional traumas to live a free and healthy life. 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! When our lower back aches, or our shoulder cries out every time we put it into extension, it might make sense to assume that there’s something wrong with the joint or the connective tissue around the affected area, but that’s not always the case. So how do you determine the true source of your chronic pain issues? It can be a difficult journey, as many of the things that cause our body the most stress are of mental and emotional origin. Things like anxiety, or past traumas, can be stored in the body and create an inflammatory response that begins to have downstream effects, one of which is chronic pain... ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/stop-chasing-pain-2-perry-nickelston-ep-52/ ------------------------------ ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Course! 📩 https://courses.evolvemoveplay.com/inp?utm_medium=organic_social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=inp_member_corona2020&utm_content=inp-invitation-page ------------------------------ ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats! STOP CHASING PAIN Part 1 With Perry Nickelston: EMP Podcast 51

How can play and movement variability bring relief to those who are suffering from chronic pain? Dr. Perry Nickelston is joining us today to talk about the complex subject that is pain science, and how our thoughts and emotions play a bigger role in chronic pain than most people imagine. 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! (if you haven't already) ------------------------------ 🗒️ SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Intro 06:28 - Perry’s Background 10:05 - Play and Pain 25:17 - Psychological Injuries 39:18 - Climbing and Whole Foods Movement 48:59 - Social Safety and Play 01:00:42 - Transforming through Movement 01:13:50 - Outro One of the most powerful things about playful movement is its ability to nourish the mind, body and emotional states in an integrative fashion. When a person’s chronic pain is stemming from a deep sense of fear or anxiety around movement, being able to engage in rewarding physical activity that sparks a sense of joy and fulfillment is an incredible tool for overcoming the neurological barriers that they are experiencing. Today’s episode of the EMP podcast is the first of a two part conversation that centers around pain, play, and how we can better our lives by understanding how the brain and body are one complex, integrated organism. When we individuate our physical and neurological systems, we can stop chasing pain and better equip ourselves to treat the root cause of our dysfunctions. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/stop-chasing-pain-perry-nickelston-ep51/ ------------------------------ ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Course! 📩 https://courses.evolvemoveplay.com/inp?utm_medium=organic_social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=inp_member_corona2020&utm_content=inp-invitation-page ------------------------------ ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats! Fitness And Natural Movement - Bridging The Gap With Kelly Starret: EMP Podcast 50

Your movement practice should not only improve the health and function of your body, it should also feed your passion for life. K-Star is back for our 50th episode to talk about how to strike a balance between natural movement and conventional fitness so we can get the absolute best from both worlds. 👍 Liked it? If every day you were able to connect to the wild power inside of you and use it to forge a life of freedom, strength, and adventure, then suddenly certain conventional fitness practices would have a renewed sense of value to you. Rather than working out just to work out, with endless routines to hit every muscle from every angle, your practice would reveal what missing pieces are most crucial to you and allow you to focus your gym time on developing the aspects of your health and function that would directly translate back into the practice you love so much. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/fitness-movement-emp-ep-50-kelly-starrett/ ------------------------------ ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Course! 📩 https://courses.evolvemoveplay.com/inp?utm_medium=organic_social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=inp_member_corona2020&utm_content=inp-invitation-page ------------------------------ ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats! Establishing The Essential Practices With Kelly Starrett: EMP Podcast 49

A movement practice should be a continual source of health, learning and personal growth. But can it actually have the opposite effect? K-Star is on the podcast today to talk about this subject and more! 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! (if you haven't already) ------------------------------ 🗒️ SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Intro 05:14 - Finding New Challenges 09:45 - The Training Spectrum 20:13 - The Essential Aspects 33:54 - Overtraining 45:07 - Dietary Tribalism 56:40 - Outro There’s nothing at all wrong with having a passion and diving deeply into one discipline, but without temperance that drive to excel can be a slippery slope. At the very least we run the risk of closing ourselves off to new lessons and practices that can be hugely beneficial to us. At worst we can become blinded to our own health and function, drive ourselves into the ground and do irreparable damage. This is one of the biggest benefits of being a generalist mover. Engaging in a wide variety of practices that cultivate your weaknesses and cover each other's blind spots not only improves your overall health, it gives you a more sustainable pathway towards learning and growth. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/essential-practices-with-kstar-emp-ep-49/ ------------------------------ ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Membership! 📩 https://courses.evolvemoveplay.com/inp?utm_medium=organic_social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=inp_member_corona2020&utm_content=inp-invitation-page ------------------------------ ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats! Cultivating The Heroic Sage With John Vervaeke: EMP Podcast 48

What does it mean to be your most heroic self? In today's episode we examine why it takes more than a warrior ethos to achieve heroism. 👍 Liked it? Like it! ♥️ Loved it? Subscribe! (if you haven't already) ------------------------------ 🗒️ SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Intro 05:15 - Examining the Heroic Archetype 16:56 - The Problem of Hubris 22:49 - The Virtues and Agape 25:41 - Embracing the Feminine Heroic 36:09 - Humility and Heroism 43:35 - Investing in Community 52:33 - The Middle Path 57:50 - Coming Together 01:07:07 - Outro While warriors are usually portrayed as being heroic, the two terms are not synonymous. While they may not be conventional warriors, are the loving mother, the healer, or the shepherd any less heroic? They face chaos and adversity not with sword and shield, but with compassion and wisdom. What we want to point out in this episode is that there is an archetype that embodies both the gentle and firm aspects of heroism, and striving to embody this archetype is a far more relevant and useful aim than putting all our eggs in the basket of warrior-hood. That archetype is the Sage. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/heroic-sage-with-john-vervaeke-episode-48/ ------------------------------ ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Membership! Telling Stories Through Movement With Simon Thakur: EMP Podcast 47

Have you ever wondered why humans love music and dance? It also paved the way for deeper levels of personal expression and emotional sophistication... The deeper our connection to movement is, the more we are able to understand the emotions and expressions of those around us, and the more we can express ourselves to the world. When we are stuck inside, it can be very difficult to feel any level of connection to the things that nourish us most, including our tribe, movement, and nature. As it turns out, even if we’re limited in our ability to move around and access rugged and wild places, we can still take time out of our day to check in with the nature that exists around us. Believe it or not, cities are full of non-human life, and with a little effort, we can shift our awareness to notice the unfolding stories of the plants and animals that we had previously been blind to. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/nature-connection-with-kyle-koch-podcast-46/ ------------ ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Membership! Aliveness And The Value Of Opposition With Matt Thornton: EMP Podcast 44

We have to put our efforts under fire and see what works and what doesn't time and time again. If we forego that opponent processing, we lose a fundamental source of information about the quality of our practice which can set us up for catastrophic failure down the line. On today's podcast we're going to dive into aliveness and the value of opposition with our good friend Matt Thornton. We are going to talk at length about how these principles and others are being applied in his schools to create a truly effective and sustainable Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practice for his students, as well as how any practitioner of any art can identify the fundamentals of their practice and train in a more alive manner. For instance, we don't waste time punching tennis balls against a wall because we learn hand eye coordination, rhythm and timing and many other skills in our sparring practice. The point is there's a process that you can go through to test your practice and weed out the aspects of your training that are overly redundant or downright useless. Our guest today has taken this approach to its extreme in the realm of strength training. Whereas most trainers would be able to give you a binder full of exercises to add to your program, Erich Lin has whittled his routine down to what he calls "The Big 5" strength exercises. His philosophy is that with a minimalist approach to the number of exercises, sessions, sets, and repetitions you perform, you can still make incredible gains in strength. Not only that, the specific exercises he uses actually offer free gains in other movements without doing any dedicated work towards those skills. ➡️ See full notes on the companion blog: https://www.evolvemoveplay.com/nassim-taleb-uncertainty-erich-lin-ep-42/ ---------------- ✅ Join our Natural Parkour Online Membership! 📩 Join now: https://evolvemoveplay.thrivecart.com/inp50 ---------------- ⛰️ Nature Immersion and Movement Retreats: Nothing can take you deeper into a truly alive movement practice than one of our very exclusive movement retreats!
