200 Mile Gravel Races: NOT Consistent, Sub-FTP Long Efforts

In the front group....also, not the best training strategy even if you're just attempting to have your best day. Reconsider the time you're spending on 3 x 45 minute sweet spot.

Shifting To Endurance At End of Block When 😴

Listen to your body. TRY, but if you're getting crushed, throw it into zone 2, ride some endurance, and finish out the block.  Some caveats: are you in race season? That changes some things. And if you're EXHAUSTED, shift into a rest week and figure out why. But in general, many times you can sub out those two interval sessions with endurance riding, cap off with some nice weekend rides, and then soak up all that training during the rest week!

Road Race: Breaking Away, NOT At 100% FTP!

It takes a lot more to breakaway from the peloton or your compatriots in a road race.  I had a question come in after I posted about this on Tik Tok, and I wanted to highlight this training race where I had to smash over the rollers to keep the speed high, and the chasers at bay.  Whether you need more VO2Max training, Anaerobic Capacity Training, or Lactate Clearance work, there are a myriad of pieces that come into GOING FAST.  Figure out your weakness, address it, and get on the top step this season!   https://youtu.be/-bWIj0Wohqo PLUGS:  Have you tried LactiGOOO yet?  Check out my post on it: https://www.evoq.bike/blog/lactigo-performance Then go here for a discount: www.lactigo.com/brendan 100% Money Back Guarantee; Amazing For Recovery AND Hard Efforts!  Full Blog With Training Tips: www.evoq.bike/blog  Free Coffee: Trade Coffee: http://s.trdcfe.me/BWnL3

Why CTL Is Not Race Readiness, Friendly Reminder!

Blog post mentioned in this super fast pod:  https://www.evoq.bike/blog/2019/1/25/1-massive-reason-why-obsessing-over-your-ctl-can-ruin-your-race-season Quick bits: -CTL doesn’t know how tapered or rested you are -You could do 100 TSS a day from zone 2, or 100 TSS from a 1 hour time trial; you'll feel very differently but same CTL! -You can consider TSB, BUT you could be at 0 and be exhausted…this can happen after a big spring build up (see blog) -TSS accounts for, but doesn’t highlight or differentiate things like: Intensity, Repeatability or Race Specific efforts.
