#197: Six Steps to Raise Your Prices Without Losing Customers

Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training I’ve never met a farmer who I thought their prices were too high and my advice was to lower them. Never. And that’s in 12 years of working with farmers to get profitable. So - chances are, your prices are not covering all your costs including a living wage for you or your employee and ON TOP OF THAT a generous 35-40% profit margin.  But when faced with raising your prices to that amount, I know what happens next… …cue the fear and guilt. Doubt. Anxiety. I hear this on repeat from farmers across the country. ”but I feel bad I have to charge so much!” “I’m nervous - I can’t afford to lose customers!” “I just need to become more efficient and save money elsewhere so I can keep the prices low.” In episode 197, I outline the proven steps I use and now teach to my clients that allow you to increase your prices with confidence. If you don’t learn the skill of raising your prices, you’ll do your farm in. I see this over and over - farmers who’d rather suffer the pain of loss from giving up vs. the pain of learning to do something new.  It’s going to hurt either way - the stress of financial hemorrhaging until you quit.  Or, the pain of learning to do the hard thing in the way I teach until, with practice, it gets easy. Every new skill is painful and challenging at first. But the payoff from that pain is so much better than the payoff of quitting and losing your dream. When you follow these steps, you’ll shift to feeling empowered and confident and the fear and guilt will ease. Your customers WANT to pay you what you need to stay in business when you market the way I teach in 5X Your Farm Sales. Today’s episode will help you feel confident you now have a process for raising your prices. Let’s get you on the path to a sustainable, profitable farm!

#196: How to Handle the Uncertainty of Farm Life With Calm Instead of Anxiety

Click HERE to Reinvent Your Farm Marketing: Free Training I don’t have to tell you this: Building a farm is so much more than deciding what to raise and then selling it.  It’s an emotional experience - full of: Doubt, anxiety, stress, worry, confusion, guilt, and so many more emotions. So one of the most important skills you’ll need to learn if you want to last long-term is how to manage for these emotions that will make you want to shut down. Not how to suppress them. Or ignore them. Or pretend they’re not there. But you’ll need to learn how to contend with these not-so-feel-good-emotions. Today on the Profitable Mindset podcast, we tackle one of them - I teach you how to manage for anxiety when things are so uncertain in life. If you want to experience freedom, prosperity, and happiness on your farm and in life, I’m going to hand you the formula that works for farmers daily inside my coaching program.  This is a proven playbook for managing your anxiety. Stressed and anxious about the uncertainty of life and farm?  I got you.  We’re in this together. Warm Hugs, Charlotte

#193: How This Farmer Got To Profit in Three Years

Like many farmers, Melissa Marks homeschools her 6 kids and runs their farm including attending farmers markets in the growing season. Unlike most farmers, however, Melissa’s days are very intentional, thoughtful, well-planned, and the whole family stops every Thursday at 4 PM for a volleyball game. Listen to Melissa’s full story on the Profitable Mindset Podcast today. She learned how to create this beautifully orchestrated life using the strategies, coaching, and classes I teach in 5x Your Farm sales, my signature year-long coaching program now home to 270+ farmers. Before starting coaching with us, Melissa was overwhelmed, overscheduled and overworked. She knew from listening to my podcast that if she tried to grow her farm business while still overwhelmed, she would just grow the overwhelm, NOT any profit.  She really took note when I said if you grow your farm business, you grow your 3 biggest problems. She knew her big problems were overwhelm, lack of time management and marketing skills. She joined the 5x program about a year and a half ago, calmed her life down, and now is delighted and fulfilled with what she’s created. Their sales have doubled.  They’ve raised their prices several times and are now making money.  They continue to have money to invest in infrastructure. Her 20 year marriage has never been better - Melissa is now truly best friends with her husband. Something she thought was only social-media hype when she saw other women posting about “he’s my best friend.” Listen to her success story on the podcast today. 5x Your Farm Sales opens for registration on January 15th.  Don’t take just my word for it - please listen to Melissa’s testimony and see how this is possible for you, too. From Melissa:   “The 5x Coaching Program is the best money I’ve spent, ever. This program WILL change your life. As long as you’re willing to invest time listening to the coaching calls each week, conveniently on a private podcast, you can’t help but to start to implement things. It’s hard work, but it becomes easy to follow through when you start seeing what a difference it makes in your life, your family’s lives, and your farm business. There’s no better way to spend our money every year. I could never NOT be in this coaching program growing my mind and improving our family and business." Be Inspired by Melissa on the podcast today. Happy New Year and let me help you make ‘24 your best year yet. Warm Hugs, Charlotte

#189: How and When to Diversify Your Farm

Free Training: 4 Simple Steps to Create More Time and Profit On Your Farm If you’ve got a diversified farm and you’re overwhelmed, overstretched, overbusy - please know you’re not alone.   You CAN turn things around.   Truth is, you MUST turn it around or you’ll do yourself and your farm in.     (98% go out of biz by year five, losing lots of $$. Let’s fix this.)   This is my life’s work - helping farmers turn their money-losing farm ventures into sustainable lifestyles.   Here’s the challenge - as farmers, we know a diversified farm is what’s best for the soil, the animals, and our communities.   Pastures dotted with grazing cows followed by scratching chickens define nutrient dense food!   We’ve read and heard monocultures in agriculture are unsustainable.   Acres and acres of just one veg or one flower -- lettuce, for instance - means lack of disease controlling species. So then far more chemicals are needed to get the product to the customer.   But we cause ourselves problems when we confuse the end with the means.   If we try to start our farms with diversification of products and sales, we’ll do ourselves in.   First - what do I mean about diversified?   A diversified farm means you’re selling:   1 - More than one thing (chicken, beef, eggs, flowers, veg, classes, events, etc.)  2 - To more than one type of person (wholesale customer, retail customer, trying to reach all the people) 3 - In more than one place (online, at markets, on your farm, on FB, IG, Youtube, Tiktok… all the places)   I teach a very specific process to my clients in 5X to get their farms profitable.   The process is simple. It works. My clients who implement the process turn around their losing ventures.   But most farmers outside of my program won’t implement it.   Because it goes against what they see every other farmer doing!   Today’s episode of the Profitable Mindset Podcast will shed light on how & when to diversify.   And - getting inside my coaching group is crucial - the hardest thing you’ll do in trying to build a successful farm is go against what you see everyone else is doing.   But you must if you want to succeed.   I’m here to help.   See you in Episode 189 of the Profitable Mindset Podcast.   Warm hugs,   Charlotte   PS: 5x Opens Up Again in January - plan on joining. 👏
