But I do want to recognize that life doesn't come in nice, neat boxes where every day or every week looks like every other day or every other week. I don't. It's really hard to challenge work and home or vocation and family. I would argue that you're never 100 percent balanced. You're always counterbalancing. 10:13 - Establishing boundaries in dad life 10:34 - Why set life goals? 10:40 - you won't accomplish one hundred percent of the goals that you don't set. And so faith is being sure of what we hope for, Hebrews 11. And that's where the magic happens. That's where the hard work habits. And that really is the key to going after those goals. 15:42 - Seven kind of character traits of being the man, playing the man (Episode 146) Virtue #1 Tough Love Virtue #2 Childlike Wonder Virtue #3 Will Power Virtue #4 Raw Passion Virtue #5 True Grit Virtue #6 Clear Vision Virtue #7 Moral Courage 17:04 - prayer does turn parents into prophets and you can shape the destiny of your kids with your prayer life. You know, I don't think that we can ever separate the two." 5:30 - Learning the Father's love from her dad. 7:14 - We don't just have a heavenly father that parents us. We have a heavenly father who fathers us. 9:21 - "That's and that's also whole all scriptural that we are supposed to improve, if you will, improve our children, if they are supposed to be, we want them to be better than us. We don't just want them to have a better life, be more fortunate, be more prosperous. We want them to be better than us. We want them to take what we have to give them what God has breathed into them, into into us, and therefore we breathe into them and that they are going to take that and go much farther than we could have ever gone." 10:42 - "Our prayer is that men will see themselves as God sees them. We've already talked about that as they are as the warriors they are, fighting in the trenches for their families against all odds, overcoming every trial that comes their way." Quote from Midnight Dad's devotional 13:03 - "You, father, dad, are going where you're going. This is supposed to help you know, that you have a heavenly father who's going to get you there, who's going to help you accomplish that, where no other human can help you as well as your heavenly father can help you." 15:16 - "So here's the thing about Noah is that he invited his sons to build with him, that it was a family build, that Noah got the download and it required the help of his whole family to create what would be for the whole family. And so I think as dads are listening and they're like, well, this is what God has called me to. It's not just for them. It's with them that there isn't anything that God calls a parent to, that he doesn't also call the children to participate in." 16:45 - "It's the difference between that and fathering, which says I'm going to intentionally stay relational with you. I'm going to care not about what you did today, but how it made you feel. And then I'm going to invite you into my story of what God is doing in me. And the only way for a child to see the impact of what God is doing in the father is if he intentionally makes the decision to include his children in what he's going through and how he feels about it. And and I think that's what it means to build with it." 22:14 - "it was the promise of presence, which is I am certain that I will see and experience this goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, not just know about it, not just here about it, not someday." 22:52 - You can never have more. It's the one thing you could never fully possess because there's always more to gain that the act of having more means that you have to always be reaching and going and trying. - Quoting her dad You can never achieve more, you can never actually hold more. I want to tell him that this is going to be a lifetime journey. 26:57 - "I have made spectacular failures as a as a parent. I have never made a failure as a father because my heart is pure, my heart is true. And what I want for my children is what my heavenly father wants for me." I always encouraged that she could do those things that were on her heart. And and I think Stephanie would probably say that the affirmation she's received over the years is it's been a real strength in her development." 5:24 - Tim's daughter Stephanie, "My dad not only loved me, but he liked me." 8:02 - "We get to step into being what maybe we didn't receive and that we didn't have modeled for us." 12:28 - Tim talks about the benefit of listening and drawing out connection from his kids and how he wishes he would have done that more. 15:45 - Advocating for a special needs child 19:24 - The multiplication effect when you're learning for others. 20:22 - Tim - "Pay attention to how God uses you and just go with that." 21:19 - Tim - "People are all good at different things, and it's just not something you're good at. It's something that God can take to another level." 24:51 - Tim - "If you will just make a commitment to do something, you're going to find out what you shouldn't be doing and what you're absolutely not good or gifted at. And you're going to discover the things that you are gifted and you're good at. And the discovery is part of the whole thing. But it doesn't happen without taking some kind of a commitment, and as a pastor, I'm going to say God wants you to commit to serve in the local church because it's not for the church, it's for you. It's all about him developing you." 26:50 - Danny - "Be intentional with your interest, because I think right now we live in a world where everything's asking for it and we give it away so easily... And I think if when we put interest in our kids and what they're interested in and what their hopes and dreams are and what some of their, what they like to do and what's going through their little minds or what season of life they're in, when we give intentional interest to that, I think it becomes molding us into the kind of dads they need us to be in those particular seasons. 28:17 - Tim - "And if you will just be very conscientious about asking God for help all day long, every day, you'll constantly be taking off some of the burdens of fear or inadequacy or anything else that you're facing in your life. And all I would say is just try to remember some of the things you asked because he answers a whole lot more things than you're paying attention to. And if you'd pay attention to him, you'd know how much he works in your life, which is the proof of how much he loves you. And he would be so much more real to you." Adam Griffin: "I'm seeing some of the fruit of the labor we've put into our kids to the point now where for us family discipleship, which is really what we're talking about, has become so normal that if I remove myself from a situation, my kids can lead themselves through it." 6:58 - Family discipleship at bedtime 7:29 - "I feel especially passionate and saying I don't want my oldest son to be the only one who's got leadership experience in this family." 7:53 -I'm trying to, like you said, build in not only them to be receivers, but then to be leaders and already I'm thinking about them as fathers. I'm thinking about them as husbands. I'm not just thinking about them as my kids with some obligation I have to mention Jesus as we put them to bed. But I'm trying to grow men." 9:22 - Choosing scriptures for his kids. "Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like a man and be strong and let everything you do be done in love.".... "Be strong, show yourself a man, keep the charge of the Lord, your God, walk in his ways and statutes." ...."He's told you, O man, what's good and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love, kindness and walk humbly with your God." 11:50 - "I believe is that there's a countercultural nature to the way Christians are called to parent, to lead, to live, and that's that we are not of the world, even though we're in the world, it's that we will be hated because Jesus is hated." 12:20 - I want them to stand by what they believe, regardless of what the world would say about it or how small the minority of people is who believe that." 13:05 - "Do Griffins follow the crowd? And my sons will say that to me only if the crowd is following Jesus." 14:12 - Book: Family Discipleship and the idea of being "dads who take the lead." 16:22 - "If when you think about leading your wife or you think about leading your kids, you're thinking about how can I lay down the gifts God has given me of strength or wisdom or insight or of time in order to meet the needs of those people that the Lord has me living with right now? And so leadership, to me, it has to be servant-hearted and it has to be service-oriented because that's the way we see Jesus lead and that's what he's called us to do." 17:22 - Family discipleship - Critically important, but mostly ordinary. 18:38 - "So what they need from you, dads, is a demonstration of what it looks like to be an imperfect person who follows a perfect God. They don't need you to be their savior. They have that in Jesus Christ. But what they what you can serve is an example of like, well, here's how dad makes mistakes and repents. Here's how dad tries and fails. Here's how dad tries and succeeds." 20:45 - Modeling, Time, Moments, Milestones - the framework for discipleship 22:32 - "And it's in those significant times where it's going to be memorable that we have the opportunity to point to God's faithfulness, no matter what the circumstances, and to create something bigger." 23:55 - I really believe in the concept of family discipleship that we help you walk through. What is modeling look like in your house? When are you going to do family discipleship time? What language can you use in your household around moments? And then what's your plan for milestones? What do you want to build towards or when you want to be doing? 27:51 - Quote from Charles Spurgeon, "we sow, we reap... Let us expect our children to know the Lord. Let us from the beginning, mingle the name of Jesus with their ABCs." - making family discipleship as important as education. 30:43 - Quote from Charles Spurgeon - "Aspire, dear brethren, to shine widely as a candle set upon a candle stick gives light to all that are in the house. First see to it that you are truly saved yourselves. Then cry out, cry to the Lord for your own kith and kin and labor for them until they are brought to the redeemers feet and then let your light shine throughout the neighborhoods where you dwell. It is. It is a poor lamp which cannot be seen outside its own glass." 34:59 - Deut 6 - Be diligent in impressing these things to our children. Deut 4 - Be diligent in the care of our souls.
