Karen has an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's, which is where the immune system attacks the thyroid. Constantly exhausted, and desperate to feel better, she searched for a diet that would help with her Hashimoto's. She found Dr. Jason Fung and intermittent fasting in her search. Karen immediately began a 16:8 protocol, and within three days, she felt so much better! Within six weeks, she had lost 20 pounds. All of her doctors love IF, and support her completely. Karen has lost a total of 52 pounds, going from 218 pounds to 167 pounds. Karen's advice to new IFers: "Be flexible. Do what feels right to you. Don't get caught in the rules...except the clean fast!" Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast. Robin January
In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Robin January from Fayetteville, AR.Let me tell you about the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network! Besides the freedom of IF, community is what I most want to offer the world. Instead of relying on the big social network most of us have been on for years, we now have a community that is completely separate and just for us. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at dddsocialnetwork.com. Robin works at a university lab in the Food Science Department. In the summer of 2018, Robin was diagnosed with a torn artery in her neck which resulted in several mini-strokes. She then developed a brain aneurysm. Her doctor immediately ordered her to go on bed rest for the next four months, with the warning “do not gain weight.”That same summer, Robin's mother had her watch a talk show segment on IF. Robin's response: "IF is a fancy word for starvation." But as she began to gain weight, Robin decided to give IF a try. For the first several months, Robin added cream to her coffee, having no knowledge of the clean fast. Robin stumbled upon Delay, Don't Deny, and learned about the clean fast. The transition to the clean fast made the fast easy. Robin eventually moved to a morning eating window. She currently follows 20:4, with a weekly longer fast. She has lost 25 pounds, going from a size 14 to a size 6. Robin's health has radically improved. Her brain aneurysm has healed. Her psoriasis, which covered her entire body, is now almost gone completely. She also has improved gum health after a 14-year battle with gum disease. Robin's advice to new IFers: "Find a reason to fast that is completely independent of weight loss. Look for small victories. Be content with health benefits if you're not losing weight at first. Don't be afraid to try things that seem scary."Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast. While she was successful with diets, she would always gain back whatever she lost.By July of 2019, Cynthia had reached her highest weight of 240 pounds and felt miserable. The turning point came for her while on a trip to New York with her husband. A woman on their Brooklyn Bridge tour had to stop because she was out of breath and could not continue. The entire group had to wait for her, and Cynthia realized she herself was on her way to the same scenario. It was time do something different. Her doctor had suggested intermittent fasting as a way to lose weight, and Cynthia began immediately once they returned. Cynthia found the Delay, Don't Deny Facebook group and listened to the Intermittent Fasting Stories podcast. Hearing the success of others was very motivating for Cynthia. She began with a 16:8 protocol, gradually moving to 18:6. Cynthia has lost an astounding 110 pounds!!The health benefits Cynthia has experienced: improved sleep, her joints no longer ache, she has sustained energy throughout the day, and her allergies have improved.Cynthia's advice to new IFers: "Give yourself time to try it. Concerned she may be insulin resistant, Erin did some research on how to reverse it. Intermittent fasting came up, along with Gin's Intermittent Fasting Stories podcast. She read Delay, Don't Deny and The Obesity Code, and learned about the clean fast. In June of 2019, she began with a 16:8 protocol. She currently follows a daily 18:6 (or more) IF protocol and has lost 25 pounds. One of Erin's health benefits has been improvement in her dental health. Prior to IF, she had severe cavities. Anne-Lise Jasinski
In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Anne-Lise Jasinski from Joplin, MO.This episode is sponsored by…well, I’m sponsoring it myself. Besides the freedom of IF, community is what I most want to offer the world. Let me tell you about the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network. Instead of relying on the big social network most of us have been on for years, let’s have a community that is completely separate and just for us. Visit dddsocialnetwork.com to learn about our new membership community. An annual membership is $59.95 and you have access to over 100 groups to match your interests. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you.Anne-Lise calls herself an "Untherapist" and she helps people with self-improvement. She is also the author of The Untherapist, which is a book about her emotional journey of healing.Anne-Lise was introduced to fasting as a child. She grew up in a religion where children were required to dry fast (no food or water) for 24 hours, once year. This was looked upon as a 'rite of passage,' and Anne-Lise did her first dry fast at age seven. Leaving this religion in her twenties, she never fasted again. In 2017, Anne-Lise officiated her son's wedding. Looking at pictures, she did not recognize herself. At 230 pounds, she realized it was time to do something about it. She found Dr. Jason Fung's The Obesity Code and followed a Keto diet with a 16:8 IF protocol. Anne-Lise eventually lost 65 pounds, but in dealing with some emotional issues in her life, gained back 55 pounds. This was discouraging! In March of 2020, Anne-Lise joined a Keto Facebook group, and found Delay, Don't Deny from another member. She quickly read it and listened to the IF Stories Podcast. She began with a 19:5 protocol, but this time without restrictions. After a year of this, she feels healthy and vibrant and strong.Anne-Lise's NSVs: "Food finally became permissible to enjoy, and I trust my body now." She has compassion with herself, and has healed her relationship with food, discovering the joy of eating. She is also healing the 'diet brain' she has struggled with her entire life. Anne-Lise's advice to new IFers: "Focus on the feeling, not the results. Listen to your body's feedback."Fine Anne-Lise Jasinski at: www.theuntherapist.com and on social media: @theuntherapistHer book, The Untherapist is available on Amazon.Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her New York Times Bestseller, Fast.
