Michaela Bishop
In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Michaela Bishop from Norman, OK. Gin’s new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! Gin wants to show you how to become clean(ish) where it counts: you’ll learn how to eat (mostly) clean and live (mainly) clean as you unlock your body’s natural ability to self-clean. Instead of aiming for perfection (which is impossible) or changing everything at once (which is hard, and never leads to lasting change), you’ll cut through the confusion, lose the fear, and embrace the freedom that comes from becoming clean(ish). As you learn how to lower your toxic load through small changes, smart swaps, and simple solutions, you’ll breathe a (clean) sigh of relief and embrace your own personal evolution toward becoming clean(ish). Go to https://www.ginstephens.com/cleanish.html for more information. The book will be released on 1/4/22, but you can preorder now through Amazon or your favorite online book retailer. Preordering is really important, as it gives the publisher an idea of how many books to print. Michaela tried many diets, and struggled with compulsive eating. She had several health issues that were related to her weight, one being an enlarged heart. When she was diagnosed with AFib, she knew it was time to do something. “I had constant shortness of breath, and didn't want to live this way the rest of my life!” In December of 2019, she read the New England Journal of Medicine article on IF. She then searched for an IF podcast, and found Gin’s and Melanie's, The Intermittent Fasting Podcast. She also read Delay, Don't Deny. In January of 2020, Michaela began her IF journey with 16:8. She eventually moved to 19:5, and currently keeps a 3-4 hour daily window. Michaela has lost 80 pounds, and feels great! Her health has greatly improved. Michaela’s blood pressure and thyroid meds have both been reduced, and she no longer experiences shortness of breath. Michaela encourages others to start with the clean fast, be flexible and eat the things you like. Jeni never followed diets, but instead accepted that she would always be "big." By the end of nursing school in 2009, her weight climbed to 230 pounds. It was then that she hired a trainer, followed a diet, and managed to lose 30 pounds. But over the years, she gradually gained the weight back. In November of 2019, a friend posted about her IF journey, sharing that she was an upcoming IF Stories podcast guest (Episode 55). This inspired Jeni to try IF, and she began that day! She currently prefers a 20:4 protocol, and has gone from a size 16/18 to a size 6/8. Jeni's health has improved. Her blood pressure is lower, all of her labs are better, her fasting insulin is now 4.9, and she no longer needs GERD medication. Jeni's doctors are thrilled with her progress, and completely support her IF lifestyle. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at dddsocialnetwork.com. Joanna learned of intermittent fasting from a podcast in 2015. The way it was described, Joanna got the idea that IF was only for men, something that was medical, it took too much discipline, and was for only people who didn't like food. "I decided IF was not for me," and she carried on with life. During the pandemic that began in March of 2020, Joanna found she was putting on weight. Knowing she had to do something, she recalled IF and did some new research. She came across Delay, Don't Deny, Fast Feast Repeat, and The Obesity Code, and read all three. In July of 2020, Joanna began with 20:4, and she has never looked back. Her husband also joined her with IF. He had struggled with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) for many years, trying several things to manage it. But within three days of IF, his IBS was gone! Joanna has lost roughly 17 pounds, going from 170 to 153. She has loads of energy and feels great! IF is simply a part of her life now. The advice Joanna would give new IFers: Have patience! It may take a couple months to figure it all out. Elizabeth decided to follow in her mom’s footsteps, beginning in 7th grade. In January of 2020, a close friend shared IF with her, and Elizabeth began with 16:8. She was feeling great and losing weight until the pandemic hit in March. By the end of April, she had gained back everything she lost. Knowing IF was her lifestyle, and committed to getting back to feeling great, Elizabeth gradually shortened her window and moved to a one meal a day approach. To date, Elizabeth has lost 20 pounds, going from 185 to 165. Instead of a goal weight, she has decided: "to like what I see in pictures." She knows that her body will settle on the right weight, so she is trusting the process. For Elizabeth, IF is a peaceful way to live. The advice Elizabeth would give new IFers: Take it day by day. IF is like a muscle--the more you do it, the better you become!
