#345 Celebrate Avenue Q - Puppeteer Rick Lyon
Celebrate Avenue Q - Puppeteer Rick Lyon Smithsonian Associates Art of Living Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, Smithsonian Associates Interview Series, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is episode #345. As part of our Smithsonian Associates Interview Series, we are joined today by master puppeteer, Rick Lyon. In July 2003, a very different sort of musical opened on Broadway. Avenue Q. It wasn't based on a blockbuster film or play or best-selling book, wasn't compiled from popular songs, and it didn't take place somewhere far away or long ago. It was entirely original, set in contemporary New York, and, perhaps most surprisingly, featured colorful puppets in its lead roles. Before the final curtain falls, we will hear from Rick Lyon, who conceived, designed, and built the puppets for Avenue Q. Rick Lyon is with us today in a rare interview opportunity for the Not Old Better Show audience. You can see Rick Lyon and fellow cast member, Jennifer Barnhart, as they Celebrate Avenue Q, April 27, 2019. Please join me in welcoming to The Not Old Better Show, via internet phone, a master puppeteer from Avenue Q, Rick Lyon. #343 Loved1 - Live Well & Feel Connected
Loved1 - Live Well & Feel Connected Interview with Loved1 Founder, Joe Adams Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is episode # 343, today's show is brought to you by Loved1. Right up front, I want to remind, Mothers Day is coming. Like, Winter is Coming, Mother's Day is coming. Don't forget Cersei Lannister, don't forget your mom, and don't forget your loved1!. I love this time of year: Springtime…Easter, dogwood in bloom, if you know forsythia, that's in bloom here, and the colors are amazing. Most of the US has their spring flowers, and I know for my family, who are scattered, specifically on opposite sides of the country, me in Virginia, and my mom in California, my mom loves the poppy's in bloom, the almond orchards in bloom, and all the other beautiful indigenous flowers. My point here is that my mom lives roughly 2400 miles from me, and I won't be with her for Mother's Day. So, like me, if that's the case for you, that is family scattered and unable to gather during these holidays, I think we have a solution for you. On today's show, we'll be speaking with Joe Adams from Loved1. My thanks to Loved1, at https://GiveLoved1.com for all their help with sponsorship and for making the show come together, and my thanks to you, our wonderful Not Old Better Show audience. #342 Sports Wars - Wondery's Newest Show
Sports Wars - Wondery's Newest Show Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode #342 Hey, everybody, this is a special episode because I've got something extraordinary to share with you, my Not Old Better Show audience. We talk about competition, exercise, fitness, and sports a lot here on the Not Old Better Show. Sports and fitness go hand in hand, and athletes of all ages compete, believe and train with the following saying in mind: Play like you're in first, train like you're in second! It's that motivation that can carry us forward during all forms of difficulty, adversity, and competition, from wherever it comes. The great motivator, Lou Holtz, coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and now a top-rated motivational speaker said: "Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." And in the new podcast from Wondery, SPORTS WARS, you'll hear what happens when some of the most elite athletes in the world take that motivational phrase: Play like you're in first, train like you're in second! to heart, and battle their biggest rivals for the chance to go down in history as one of the Greats. In Sports Wars, you'll hear about the sports rivalries that provoked worldwide attention. Veteran Brett Favre being challenged for his spot, by rookie Aaron Rodgers. Isiah Thomas's beef with Michael Jordan after missing out on the Dream Team. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer's battle for the title of greatest tennis player of all time. Not Old Better Show audience, this is excellent stuff, and you'll love the line up of guests! These are all great moments in sports history that our Not Old Better Show audience will love. Whether you need a jolt of motivation, or you want to recall some of these great memories, Sports Wars tells you what happened during these epic match ups. Our Not Old Better Show audience may know how these stories begin, and even how some of them end. But what you don't know is what happened in between. Who was right? Who was wrong? And which side are YOU on? Sports Wars, hosted by Dan Rubenstein of Sports Illustrated and SB Nation, who has seen firsthand the drama, emotion, and scandal these rivalries can bring.
