Questa settimana abbiamo intervistato una donna visionaria nonché pioniera del mondo private equity del settore moda in Italia. Abbiamo parlato con Roberta Benaglia, Founder & CEO di Style Capital SGR. STYLE CAPITAL è un Fondo di private equity che investe in aziende con fatturato tra i 20 e i 200 milioni di euro e che operano nei settori del Lifestyle, Fashion & Luxury. Alcuni dei brand su cui Style Capital ha investito sono Forte forte, Zimmerman, Re/Done, Luisa via Roma, Golden Goose, e il più recente Autry. Nata a Rho, in provincia di Milano, Roberta ha studiato ingegneria gestionale al Politecnico. si avvicina al mondo della finanza e del private equity proprio durante l’università, partecipando ad un convegno di Elserino Piol, padre del VC italiano. Erano gli anni della new economy, le imprese tech stavano affiorando sul mercato azionario e Roberta inizia il suo percorso professionale in Borsa D’Italia, dove incontra imprenditori visionari e di successo. A soli 33 anni diventa socia fondatrice del fondo di Private Equity DGPA, dove le viene affidato il settore consumer e moda, al tempo fin troppo sottovalutato dal mondo della finanza. Ma Roberta trasforma la sfida in un’opportunità e in poco tempo riesce a dimostrare la sua lungimiranza che la porterà poi a rilevare il fondo e diventarne CEO.  Con la sua esperienza e con il suo intuito Roberta è riuscita a percepire la potenzialità dell’affordable luxury in anni in cui emergevano brand come Forte Forte, Liu Jo, Twin Set, e Pinko. Fondata nel 2017 insieme a Massimo Scardellato, Commerce Layer si occupa di sviluppare headless commerce. Ovvero fornisce un insieme di integrazioni API per le aziende per aiutarle a costruire i loro siti e-commerce in tal modo che possano concentrarsi solo sullo sviluppo dell’interfaccia con cui entra in contatto l’utente finale.  Da Prato, a maggio 2020, Filippo e Massimo hanno chiuso un round di finanziamento di Serie A da $6 milion guidato da Benchmark Capital, uno dei più importanti VC della Silicon Valley, a Maggio 2023 hanno chiuso un round B da $16 milioni guidato da Coatue, un altro importante fondo di VC. Hanno anche ricevuto una proposta di acquisizione da Shopify che hanno deciso di rifiutare, ma non è stata una decisione facile.  L’avventura di Commerce Layer è stata talmente emozionante che Filippo sta pensando di scrivere un libro per raccontarla che si chiamerà “Come nascono gli unicorni, la Silicon Valley vista dall’Italia” e in questa chiacchierata ripercorriamo tutti i turning point. L’episodio di questa settimana racconta la storia di una startup di successo che in pochi anni ha rivoluzionato un settore molto tradizionale e che è stata protagonista dell’acquisizione più grande del settore travel in Italia. Abbiamo intervistato Fabio Zecchini, co-founder di Musement. Musement è la piattaforma italiana per la prenotazione di mostre, eventi e tour in tutto il mondo, fondata nel 2012, che in soli 5 anni è passata dall’essere una startup ad avere uffici in tutto il mondo, 180 dipendenti, e €100 Milioni di fatturato annui. Nel 2018 Musement è stata poi acquisita dal gruppo tedesco Tui, arrivando ad un fatturato di €1.5 miliardi l’anno. Nato in Veneto, Fabio è sempre stato molto appassionato di tennis e programmazione, due passioni, lo sport e l’informatica, che abbiamo ritrovato in tanti imprenditori di successo. Fabio dedica i primi anni di carriera allo studio di dati, prima in PWC e poi in una piccola azienda di data analitycs ma grazie all’incontro con i futuri co-founder decide di lanciarsi in una nuova avventura. Claudio Bellinzona, Paolo Giulini, Alessandro Petazzi e Fabio Zecchini iniziano facendo ricerche di mercato con l’obiettivo di trovare un settore tutto Italiano che possa essere rivoluzionato.
