26. The Formula to 6M+ Subscribers|Carter Sharer

Carter Sharer is not your typical 26-year old.  After graduating from Carnegie Mellon studying Quantum Mechanics and Computer Engineering, he was set to pursue a highly technical and lucrative career building self-driving cars. Instead, he turned to YouTube. By applying his analytical thinking, he reverse-engineered the top YouTubers using data, and rose to become one of the top influencers in record time. This was a fun episode. We get into the future of automation and how society will have to adapt, how Carter reverse engineered YouTube to build his massive following, surviving inside a lion's cage and other crazy shenanigans he's had to film for his channel, and more. Enjoy this one!  If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes and a rating on our Spotify show? It takes less than 60 seconds, and it really makes a difference in helping to convince hard-to-get guests. 23. Reverse Engineering Success|Shane Snow

We’ve all heard the overnight success stories that popped out of nowhere. Why is it that some people struggle for years to get to a level of success, while a few individuals can climb straight to the top in mere months? This is what our guest, Shane Snow, is here to reveal today. Shane is a talented entrepreneur, but he’s an even more talented journalist. After researching, analyzing, and interviewing the unconventional success stories of people and companies, he noticed a common pattern amongst them. That’s why Shane wrote the book, Smartcuts. While 99.9% of us have been taught the conventional wisdom of success, such as paying our dues and making small progress, Shane argues that the 0.1% think differently. He calls it ‘lateral thinking’, which is to rethink conventional practices and break the rules (that were never rules in the first place). This is a book that I’ve read over and over because it preaches why thinking differently, and zigging while everyone else is zagging will accelerate your success. In this interview, we go deep and wide in every aspect. We’ll shatter the common wisdom about success, how you can think laterally to fast track your success, and explore the behind-the-scene stories of global icons like Michelle Phan, Skillrex, and Jimmy Fallon. If you have the desire to, be, do, and achieve more in less time, or if you’re seeking a different way of thinking, this episode with Shane will inspire you. What You’ll Learn How switching from one ladder to another can bypass traditional courses of success The fastest-rising U.S Presidents didn’t progress up the linear political path. They were successful in one industry and jumped on the Presidential ladder (ex. Reagan, Trump) Companies that pivot from one business model or product to another tend to perform much better than those who always stayed on one course How to use mini-failures to make faster progress in anything you do The myth of the 10,000-hour rule What Shane learned after interviewing global icons like Skillrex and Michelle Phan Why an entrepreneur that failed at his first company is no more likely to succeed the next time around How to build authentic relationships with mentors (and why informal relationships are much more effective than formal) How Shane deals with loneliness and the downturns of entrepreneurship People Mentioned In The Episode President Ronald Reagan Skillrex Michelle Phan Jimmy Fallon Peter Thiel   If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes and a rating on our Spotify show? 19. Dealing With People Who Underestimate You|Mandy Rose

You probably know what it feels like to be underestimated. Perhaps it's because of the way you look, what school you went to, or even how much money you make. Whatever the reason may be, it's not nearly as important as how you deal with it. Amanda (Mandy Rose) is no stranger to being underestimated by others. As one of the main faces of the WWE, she plays a flirty blonde character who every guy falls for. She's even got the nickname 'God's Greatest Creation' which is often recalled whenever someone mentions her name in the WWE. However, behind the scenes in our conversation, Amanda shows a different side to her. To get to who she is today, Amanda shares the insecurities she had to overcome, how she learned to love her body, the immense amount of work it takes to stay in mental and physical shape, and much more. I appreciate how candid she was throughout this conversation, and I'm honored to share a different side to Mandy Rose that you don't get to see on the big screens. Hope you enjoy this conversation. 18. Dating Men vs. Women|Anna Akana

Last year, I opened up on Growth Minds talking about losing my Aunt to suicide when I was 15. A friend linked me to a YouTube video from Anna Akana, who lost her little sister to suicide when she was 17. Coincidentally, both were from the same city in Japan. And both were gone too soon.  The unfortunate reality is that seeking mental help is far too stigmatized in our society. Asian-Americans are 3x less likely to seek help than other Americans, and you can see why after hearing Anna’s personal experience. With the surprising event that unfolded this week, Anna’s story is another reminder to us all that life is fragile, and we can lose the ones we love at any point. But this isn’t an entirely sad story. While Anna shares that she didn’t laugh for years after her sister died, you’ll hear plenty of laughs in our ‘off-the-rails’ conversation. From dating as a bisexual, relationship tips, dealing with your depression to rediscovering your self-identity when you feel lost - we go through it all. This was a fun one. Hope you enjoy. 17. Co-Founder of Netflix|Marc Randolph

He changed the way we watch TV forever, and today Netflix is worth nearly $150 billion dollars (at the time of this writing). I got the opportunity to dig deeper into the origins of Netflix's story, like how it could've been a personalized shampoo business, nearly selling to Amazon.com for $15 million in 1998, and more. What most people don't know was that Netflix was Marc's 6th company. As a seasoned entrepreneur, he shared invaluable insights on how to accelerate your career, validating your business cheaply, what he's learned from working with current CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, and more. Grateful to have shared this conversation and lessons Marc has learned in his 40 years of being a seasoned entrepreneur. ps - fun fact: while we did not discuss this in the interview fun fact, we later found out that Sigmund Freud was Marc's great-grand-uncle.
