ADHD-ish
Diann Wingert
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners who are driven and distracted, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis or not. If you identify as an entrepreneur, small business owner, independent professional, or creative, and you color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with ADHD traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But running a business can be lonely and exhausting. Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to "catch and release" is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success. From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning your passion and purpose into profit.
If we haven't met, I'm your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance. In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my businesses and working with coaching clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself. So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode.

The Natural Ways to Sharpen Your Mind and Reduce Forgetfulness
When you have ADHD, it is not unusual to forget objects or events. I even forget the names of the people I meet and I'm just as likely to forget a conversation that I really enjoyed as much as one that was a total sleeper. If you are like me, you may also have struggled with feeling anxious, being self-conscious, embarrassed, and ashamed about memory limitations, especially with respect to interpersonal relationships. If you feel afraid to offend, hurt, or disappoint people, over the years, this can take a toll on self-esteem. I also know some people who simply start pulling back from others and playing small in their business and life in order to avoid letting others and themselves down because their memory is so unreliable. How then should we handle being forgetful? Today, I share with you some of the steps I took to overcome anxiety & disappointment due to forgetfulness. The Need for Speed
Being able to think, feel, and do things quickly is our nature. We want to act now and act quickly. This is one of the key traits of an entrepreneur and because we tend to do things quickly, other people may try to slow us down. Oftentimes, we comply and we feel the need to explain or apologize for our actions. If we continue to suppress our need for speed and slow down in order to act more like others, we will feel out of touch with ourselves. It would not feel natural and sometimes, it leads to anxiety and depression. We would constantly worry about what other people would think. As a driven woman, we need to honor our true nature and our need for speed. Forget about receiving approval or asking permission to be yourself. You don’t have to slow down. There are many more skillful ways to handle the problem of being out of sync with the rest of the world. Group coaching available this Fall 2020! Tall Poppies and Jealous Crabs
It’s easy to observe the “tall poppy syndrome” and “crab mentality” everywhere we go, once you know what to look for. Crab mentality is a behavior observed in crabs when they are in a bucket. When one crab gets on top and is on its way to freedom, another crab grabs it and pulls it down. The tall poppy syndrome is an Australian expression that refers to the behavior of people who cut down those who are more successful, confident, and achieve more than them. Sometimes, when we reach the top or when we are trying to be successful, we will notice that not everyone around us is happy about it. When we do our best at work or in business, others may try to slow us down so that we won’t outshine them. How many people are sincerely happy about your success?Have you ever sacrificed success or hid your true potential in order to avoid having to experience this?Group coaching available this Fall 2020! The Early Bird Gets More Than Worms
Many entrepreneurs say that waking up early has helped them in their business and life. They have more time on their hands to finish important tasks, and they even have the time for activities that help improve their health and wellbeing. This is one of the changes that many people would love to make -- waking up early in the morning to get more things done. For some people, it has become a habit and they find it easy, but for others, it is something that they continue to struggle with. They would wake up to the sound of their alarm, and their brain immediately tells them a thousand reasons why they should go back to sleep or hit that snooze button.Waking up earlier than usual is not going to happen naturally, not without commitment and not without training. In this episode, I share how I did it, and why. Group coaching available this Fall 2020! Just in Time vs. Just in Case: Choosing the Right Strategy
When we become entrepreneurs and start our own businesses, we usually try to learn the process from scratch. There are so many resources nowadays, and with the help of the internet, we can easily collect them all. But one thing that we need to be mindful of is if we are actually over-preparing by learning everything right now, even though we don’t need them at this moment or in the near future. We might be spending so much time learning and searching for resources that we no longer have the time to actually start or run our business.I would like to share with you one of the rules that I adopted that has helped tame my tendency to overprepare. It’s called Just in Time learning. You are serious about addressing your distractibility, procrastination, and perfectionism & their impact on your business and life, and going through the process with like-minded and like brained women is exactly what you need. Other People's Problems
There are times when we are confronted with other people’s problems. We listen to them talk about their lives and sometimes, hear them complain. Many women find themselves involved in situations with other people that they had no intention of being in. Not only are we socialized to care about others, but even our estrogen hormone influences us to be more willing to put the needs of others before our own. If we are not intentional with how we respond to other people’s problems, it will disrupt our routines, our peace of mind, and the time we have available to deal with our own.Group coaching available this Fall 2020! Don't Be Afraid to Start Over
Many people put pressure on themselves to figure out their path in life when they barely even know who they are. Those early messages from so-called authority figures can be hard to forget, especially when most people do seem to follow that advice, whether it suits them or not. Some people just pick and stick and never give themselves permission to change course and do something else. What they didn’t know is that there really is no one right way, not anymore. With the speed of change in the modern workplace, it’s really not such a great idea to get too attached to any one particular way of working or earning a living. If you find yourself wanting to do something else, maybe it's time to consider starting something new, whether it's in the same field or a new one. Tame Your Inner Critic: How to Overcome Perfectionism
Perfectionism may seem to be a good trait, but when you procrastinate on your plans because you want everything to be just right, this becomes a hindrance to achieving your goals. The real definition of a perfectionist is not someone whose life is perfect, it's someone who believes that it could be, wishes it were and suffers because it isn't.A perfectionist sets very high expectations of themselves and others. They believe that a task is not finished when it does not meet their standards, or they never even begin a task unless they know they can do it perfectly. The standards that they set not only apply to how they work but it is also the same for how they evaluate other people’s performance. In this episode, I want to tell you how perfectionism can slow you down, and why we need to manage it. I AM a perfectionist and always have been, and I want to share with you how I deal with my perfectionism. You are serious about addressing your distractibility, procrastination, and perfectionism & their impact on your business and life, and going through the process with like-minded and like brained women is exactly what you need. In the Middle of a Shit Storm, Life Hands You Free Toilet Paper
Everyone gets to experience the ups and downs of life. There are no exemptions. There are moments when things do not go our way or something unexpected happens, and it is a situation we don’t want to be in. When confronted with difficult circumstances, how you perceive and respond to them will make things better or worse. There are some people who tend to look at the bright side regardless of what’s happening to them. They see their lives as something that they co-create and have control over. On the other hand, there are those who constantly complain about their situation and even blame themselves or others. They see life as something that is happening to them and believe that it’s just how it is. In this episode, I want to share with you how gratitude can transform your life from the inside out and how you truly hold the key to transforming your life, regardless of the circumstances.
