ADHD-ish
Diann Wingert
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners who are driven and distracted, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis or not. If you identify as an entrepreneur, small business owner, independent professional, or creative, and you color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with ADHD traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But running a business can be lonely and exhausting. Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to "catch and release" is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success. From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning your passion and purpose into profit.
If we haven't met, I'm your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance. In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my businesses and working with coaching clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself. So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode.

The Highly Sensitive Healer, a Client Success Story: Meet Jen
This episode is our first Client Success Story, featuring my client Jen DiNardi, OTD who has a doctorate in Occupational Therapy, and specializes in pediatrics. In this episode, we talk about:What is occupational therapy and what kinds of things she helps her patients withWhy she pursued such a demanding academic goal (hint, it has something to do with proving something to herself…) How Jen always knew she was different but was only diagnosed with ADHD in the last year of her doctoral program. During our work together, Jen gained some transformational insights about herself:How pretending she wasn’t struggling lead to a lifetime of anxiety, perfectionism, imposter complex, fear, and hiding. She is highly sensitive and ignored this for years, causing her to feel strained and drainedJen was caught in the empathy trap and had trouble setting limits and boundaries at work, so she had no energy for a personal life And made some practical changes in her life that moved the needle:Habit stacking: Now she never forgets to take her medsMorning Routine: She eliminated decision fatigue by exercising in the morning Energy Management: What working virtually taught her about self-acceptanceThank you, Jen DiNardi, OTD for sharing your story! Not Giving a Fuck
How do you feel and what do you do when someone you care about tells you that your plans and goals won’t work or points out what they least like about you? We have heard so many people telling us to not care about what others think, but is that even possible? They say we should not care about what they think about us, our business, our marketing, our message, our price point. We also hear that we shouldn't pay attention to what our competitors do or listen to negative reviews. Is it possible to absolutely not care about other people's opinions or what others are doing? I don’t think so. I don't think it's realistic to expect ourselves to have no amount of reactivity when our behavior triggers a reaction in someone that we perceive as judgment or criticism. What should we do when we feel rejected or hurt by the opinion of others? Are you loving The Driven Woman Podcast, listening regularly, maybe even a subscriber who eagerly waits for Tuesday when the next episode is released? Sleep Your Way to Success with Special Guest Yishan Xu, PhD
Many entrepreneurs are not getting enough sleep. This is partly due to the hustle culture of entrepreneurship and partly because they tend to bootstrap their business, even when they can afford to hire or outsource. I work with female entrepreneurs who identify with ADHD traits, and I can say with full confidence that very few of them are getting the kind of sleep that they know they should (and wish they could.) Since this is our first guest expert interview, I wanted it to be special and deliver value. I connected with sleep psychologist Yishan Xu, Ph.D., a Stanford-trained expert in behavioral sleep psychology, host of two podcasts, Deep Into Sleep and Ask Yishan, a Mandarin language podcast. Dr. Xu also hosts a YouTube channel. And, if that wasn’t enough, she’s a successful entrepreneur with a group practice in California that has more than 10 clinicians. In this interview, we will be talking about how sleep is essential for entrepreneurs, how to get quality sleep, and the do’s and dont’s of sleeping (among others). Yishan and I will cover the following:Why she became a behavioral sleep specialist and sleep problems she treatsHabits of adults with ADHD that contribute to sleep deficits The statistics on sleep and mental clarity (they're scary) Why you should stop hitting the snooze button The connection between sleep and weight Caffeine and energy (this one blew my mind!)The science and culture of napping -Yishan & Diann share their personal beliefs and napping habits Recommendations: Yishan talked about and uses Phillips Hue smart lighting in her home:https://www.philips-hue.com/en-usAre you loving The Driven Woman Podcast, listening regularly, maybe even a subscriber who eagerly waits for Tuesday when the next episode is released? Learning and Unlearning
There are many who would like to become entrepreneurs but do not know where to start. Some might get discouraged because they think that they are not “born” to be one. I’m still not certain I believe that there's such a thing as an entrepreneurial personality type, but there are definitely traits that lend themselves well to self-employment.Some may have learned these traits from their entrepreneurial parents, while others, who never thought that they’d be running their own business, learned it through experience. If you are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, I will offer you my shortlist of the mindsets that you should make an effort to LEARN & those you need to UNLEARN in order to succeed as an entrepreneur. If you are currently struggling in running your business, want to start your very first entrepreneurial journey, or simply want to better understand the traits of a successful entrepreneur, this episode is for you. And remember, it’s never too late to start your own business - I didn’t until I was in my 50s! Getting What You Want
Most women struggle to meet expectations and find it difficult to believe that they are enough. Our culture conditions us to be thoughtful, caring, considerate, and nurturing, and always put others needs and wishes ahead of our own. After years of being who everyone else needs them to be, many women feel lost and don’t even know what they really want. Once they reach their 40s or 50s, many women face the question “What am I going to do with the rest of my life?” Most of them have never really felt comfortable putting their own goals first. Of all the criticisms a woman might fear, being thought of as selfish may be the most terrorizing of all. So, what happens when we find ourselves at a point in life when we actually have the opportunity to think about ourselves? The Way Women Win
You may have witnessed some women trying to bring others down in order to become successful. You may even have experienced this in your business and in your personal life as well. As we see a rise in the number of women starting their own businesses, having competitors is inevitable. How do we deal with the inevitability of competition in a healthy way? While I was working out at my gym in Portland, the women’s division of the Mallorca Triathlon was playing on the big screen to inspire and motivate us. One thing I’ve learned from watching it is that we don’t have to bring others down in order to become successful. There is no inherent contradiction between wanting to be successful and honoring your competitor. There is truly enough success and abundance for everyone who is willing to do the work, develop the discipline, and maintain the persistence required to get there. Are you loving The Driven Woman Podcast, listening regularly, maybe even a subscriber who eagerly waits for Tuesday when the next episode is released? Becoming an Entrepreneur
The number of people who have chosen the path of entrepreneurship has been growing for the past few years. Many people are starting their own businesses and it has become a lot easier with the help of technology. Why are people leaving their corporate jobs and starting their own businesses?Entrepreneurs often get asked, “Why did you choose to become an entrepreneur?” There are plenty of reasons why people chose the path to entrepreneurship. Some people would think that these entrepreneurs were born with these skills and traits and were always meant to be successful in this field. While there are some who are naturally gifted, others became entrepreneurs by accident and others were lead to this path due to their circumstances. This episode brings to light the many reasons why people become entrepreneurs and what it takes to become successful in this path. Anti-Hustle: How to Achieve More by Doing Less
How do we measure productivity? If you’re like me, you can always be so busy, yet still, be nowhere near your goals. We get busy checking off multiple tasks every day and still feel like we are missing something. If you have a fast-brain like me, you might be enthusiastic about something and spend an enormous amount of time and energy pursuing it, to the point where you forget about the rest of your life.In the eyes of others, we are ambitious, go-getters, and successful, but for us, there’s always a sense that we are missing something which can give us anxiety and self-doubt.Many, including me, thought that being busy is the same as being productive, but productivity is not about getting more done, it's about getting the right things done. It’s about making decisions on how to spend our time, energy, and attention on where it matters most. Special thanks to: Annie P. Ruggles of The Non-Sleazy Sales Academy for leaving a podcast review! Master ADHD with Confidence
Some of us have had challenging experiences as a result of our ADHD symptoms, especially when we are able to see how we need to do things differently from others. The prospect of disappointing ourselves or others has never been easy, and it’s even harder to try to conform to the norm to meet the expectations set by our society or peers. There were many times when we doubted our abilities, and it has caused us to lose confidence in ourselves. In this episode, I would like to share with you how a friend of ours made the decision on how to raise their ADHD son. They did not see their child as less than anything or anyone because of his ADHD. They created a lifestyle that supported him in believing it too. They allowed him to develop his interests and follow his curiosity. We can also use this approach to ADHD in our lives. We see, think, and do things differently from others, and I believe that we should use it to our advantage & seek support for those things that, for us, are a little challenging. Conforming to the norm doesn’t have to be our goal. Special thanks to: Cynthia Primavera of The Nursing School Simplified for leaving a podcast review!
