ADHD-ish
Diann Wingert
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners who are driven and distracted, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis or not. If you identify as an entrepreneur, small business owner, independent professional, or creative, and you color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with ADHD traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But running a business can be lonely and exhausting. Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to "catch and release" is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success. From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning your passion and purpose into profit.
If we haven't met, I'm your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance. In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my businesses and working with coaching clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself. So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode.

The Boundaries Series: Creating Consistent Client Outcomes
Today’s solo episode tackles the problem of saying “yes” to clients you probably should say “no” to and why, and how to both create predictable outcomes and avoid both negative ones and surprises. Creating a specific way of working with people and sticking to it, instead of trying to help everyone you think you should, or believe you can spare you countless heartaches. The truth is that you really can’t help everybody. None of us can. Your personal values may include being flexible, adaptable, and accommodating, but this can get you into some real hot water in your business. This is not a matter of experience or expertise, or how long you’ve been in the business, it’s about the slippery slope of unmet expectations and human nature. This episode is the first in The Boundaries Series, where we will be exploring a number of things that we do that limit our success because we have weak-ass boundaries and don’t even know it. Spoiler alert: the way I look at and talk about boundaries is guaranteed to open your eyes to all kinds of things you probably aren’t even thinking about, in addition to the boundary nonsenses you already know you’re dealing with. Here is a quick overview of what we are going to cover in today’s solo episode: The Default Yes is a major blindspot we can’t afford to keep ignoring Pink Flags to look for when deciding who to work with A Signature System helps you create predictably good outcomes How to improve your practices to ensure satisfied clients Mentioned in this episode:Bridge2More marketing consultant Claudia Schalkx https://bit.ly/3LGPw4NWhat’s Holding You Back Quiz https://bit.ly/obstaclesquizWith 20+ years of experience as a psychotherapist and 5+ years as a coach, I rarely meet a solopreneur who wouldn’t benefit from some expert guidance in this area. Closing the Performance Gap: A Client Success Story with Dallas
When you are a highly educated professional woman who knows she is capable of so much more than you are demonstrating in your career and personal life, it can be tough to figure out where the real problem lies. Is it your motivation, your expectations, your habits, your mindset, or a combination of all of the above, and how do you figure it out? Luckily for my client, Dallas, one of her friends had worked with me and told her what a great experience she had, and then she listened to a few episodes of this podcast and thought, “this might be just what I need.” There is a hilarious ‘blooper” during this episode that demonstrates why radical self-acceptance is one of the core principles I practice and teach. You will see why if you stick with the episode all the way to the end. We talk about why she decided to work with me, what we focused on and how it has transformed her thinking about money, being a lawyer, and allowed her to reach her billing goals without so much stress and beating up on herself. It was not a perfect and predictable path and at one point, Dallas felt like she had lost sense of where we were going, so we talk about how we resolved that. Here are the highlights of this conversation:The performance gap between our productivity and our potential Toxic productivity and its alternative How to practice radical self-acceptance one day at a timeRight now goals vs legacy goals Pain, suffering, and unnecessary suffering This episode’s Mic Drop Moment: “ I learned to stop selling from a hypothetical pocketbook.” (Dallas) Are you feeling the frustration of knowing you are capable of so much more but don’t know how to close your performance gap? With 20+ years of experience as a psychotherapist and 5+ years as a coach, I rarely meet a solopreneur who wouldn’t benefit from some expert guidance in this area. Becoming Unstoppable with Amira Alvarez
In this fascinating interview, my guest Amira Alvarez, CEO of The Unstoppable Woman, speaker, podcaster, and leadership coach and I get real about some of the topics so many women steer clear of. We don’t shy away from the tough stuff here on The Driven Woman Podcast, so Amira and I do a deep dive into the shadow side of being driven and ambitious. The shadow side is what ruins our health, our relationships, and often, the business we are trying so damn hard to grow and scale. Amira speaks in a clear and unapologetic way on the painful truths about striving for success and how we can unknowingly prevent ourselves from actually achieving it. It has been said that becoming an entrepreneur is the ultimate personal growth experience and I can’t agree more. In this fast-paced convo, Amira shares some of her wake up calls and rude awakenings: The hamster wheel of drive and ambition = never enoughWhen she realized she was addicted to the struggle “I didn’t die by doing it differently”If you have ever asked yourself what you are doing wrong, why you aren’t making bank, when you are going to reach the entrepreneurial promised land, this convo will be one of your favorites on this podcast. The Science Behind Inevitable Success
The more experienced I become as a business coach, the more convinced I am that the secret to success is understanding how the human brain works and how to outsmart it. Our brains do not care if we are happy, fulfilled, or reaching our potential. They are giving themselves an A+ if we are still alive, because that is actually our brain’s job description. Being successful requires that you use your mind to bypass the brain’s default programming and in this episode, I am going to share with you a couple of hacks for how to do it. Here are just a few of the highlights: Thoughts about what we are capable of are learned and can be unlearned.Beliefs are just thoughts we have a lot of experience thinking. Your brain is a lazy mofo that burns a lot of calories defending the status quo Imposter complex, self-sabotage, and limiting beliefs are autopilot settingsHow to think like your success has already happened, making it inevitable Want a double dose of this life-changing wisdom about how your brain actually works? I dug episode #3 out of the podcast archives. F*ck Fearless & Choose Bravery with Heather Vickery
If you haven’t heard my cringe-worthy story of how I spent two years thinking about starting this podcast before I finally pulled the trigger, you can go listen to my One Year Podversary episode to hear all the embarrassing details. During that two-year period of overthinking and creative procrastination, I even flew from LA to Orlando to attend the Podcast Movement Conference, thinking that would inspire me to get off the fence. It did not, but it did help me take the first step to connect with today’s guest, Heather Vickery. Heather is a leadership and success coach, speaker, workshop facilitator, podcaster, and author. I found a card promoting Heather’s podcast, The Brave Files while at that podcast conference in 2019. I picked it up and saved it because I liked the message and branding. Eventually, I met the fabulous Annie P. Ruggles, who was our guest on episode # 86, and she introduced me to Heather. The world of female podcasters is a fabulous network of generous and supportive people. Heather spoke at She Podcasts Live this year, so we got a chance to meet IRL before recording interviews for our respective podcasts and the timing of this one was just a few weeks after Heather published her best-selling book, F*ck Fearless: Making the Brave Leap. We talk about the 5 step framework that Heather uses in her coaching programs and outlines in detail in the book, complete with exercises, examples from clients she’s worked with and people she’s interviewed on her podcast The Brave Files, and plenty of stories from her own life experiences. In this fun convo, Heather Challenges me to join her in recording and posting a video a day for the month of December (we recorded the interview in November) Calls me out on my belief that as part of nature we are either in a phase of growth or a phase of decay Mic Drop Moment: “Fearless is for sociopaths and 3-year-olds.”Heather’s framework (hint, it spells out the word B-R-A-V-E) If you’d like to connect with Heather Vickery after listening to this interview, here are a few options: Get the book: https://vickeryandco.com/course/fck-fearless-making-the-brave-leap/Join her free Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BraveOnPurpose/The Brave Files: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-brave-files/id1370255228Was it Chance?: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/was-it-chance/id1597327877 Are you ready to take things to the next level and work with Diann? Understanding Value and Worth: Insights for Personal Growth
In our ongoing series on the mindset changes we need to make in business in order to make the income, impact, and profit we really want to make, in this solo episode, I address one of the more common problems I see with female solopreneurs: confusion about worth and value in their business. Here are just a few of the highlights: Defining what we mean by value and worth Salary politics and relationship trauma as triggersBad advice from other business coaches And why you want to listen all the way to the end:When we focus on value instead of worth, we make more money, get better clients, and create more outstanding outcomes. Who doesn’t want that? Can you clearly and confidently articulate the value of the services you provide, without worrying about your worth? With 20+ years of experience as a psychotherapist and 5+ years as a coach, I rarely meet a solopreneur who wouldn’t benefit from some expert guidance in this area. Mastering the Power of "No"
Two weeks ago we talked about boundaries and if you haven’t listened to that episode yet, I suggest you do. Boundaries and knowing when to say “no” go together like PB & J. In this companion episode, I will be talking about not the mechanics of saying no (although I do give you a simple strategy for what to do when you’re put on the spot, near the end…) but more of the strategy behind the no. If you are a solopreneur, creative freelancer, or indie professional, you are probably faced with a million requests a day. Knowing when to say “no” and why is crucial to having a profitable business and avoiding burnout. The focus of today’s solo episode is on service-based businesses, but the principles apply to most businesses, and to our personal lives as well. Here are just a few of the highlights: Are you prepared to respond to requests for:DiscountsBarteringPayment PlansGuaranteed Results Extra Time & AttentionAny kind of scope creep We are going to discuss the fears that keep us from saying no when we want to:Fear of losing a clientFear of negative reviewsFear that unhappy clients mean we really aren’t good enoughAnd don’t forget to stay with me to the end where I will share a simple strategy for how to get yourself off the hot seat when you are ambushed with an unexpected request. Ethical Sales Strategies: Boosting Revenue Without the Sleaze
I am excited to introduce you to today’s guest on The Driven Woman; fellow podcaster, non-sleazy sales consultant, and all-around genius-for-brains, my biz buddy, Annie P Ruggles. We met online, hit it off automagically because of our mutual interest in the intersection of feminism, mental health, and entrepreneurship. Annie is a magician in helping female entrepreneurs, coaches, consultants, and service business owners be more successful on their own terms by teaching them how to sell with integrity. If you have ever struggled to ask for the business, ask for the money, or raise your prices, you are definitely going to want to listen to this one. Anniepreneur is an open book when it comes to talking about mental health, being an empath, and the fact that being self-employed is an amazing lifestyle, but it’s also just plain hard. Most women have a hard time asking for what they want, need, and deserve and I love talking with other coaches and consultants who are as committed as I am to helping other women get paid. This episode is a bit more conversational because Annie and I have an ongoing friendship and have even shared a room at the recent She Podcasts Live conference for female and nonbinary podcasters. She is super smart, very generous with her expertise and her network, and is truly one of the most original and brilliant people I know. We cover a lot of territory, and you definitely want to listen for these mic drop moments:Overdelivering is not a victimless crime.Assholes don’t get imposter syndrome. The difference between affordable and accessible. And, the juicy topic of #ambitionshaming So, I bet you can’t wait to know more about today’s fabulous guest, and my “conference wife” Annie P Ruggles, am I right? Well, let me count the ways…..
