ADHD-ish
Diann Wingert
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners who are driven and distracted, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis or not. If you identify as an entrepreneur, small business owner, independent professional, or creative, and you color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with ADHD traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But running a business can be lonely and exhausting. Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to "catch and release" is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success. From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning your passion and purpose into profit.
If we haven't met, I'm your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance. In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my businesses and working with coaching clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself. So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode.

My 100th Episode Special Edition: Lessons in Entrepreneurship from "Inventing Anna"
The tagline for “Inventing Anna” is: “Inspired by the true story of a total fake.” Of course, I was instantly hooked, along with millions of other Netflix subscribers. Within a week, several of my clients, friends, and family members were messaging me, excitedly asking “Are you watching Inventing Anna?” and I am pretty sure I know why. First of all, I was a licensed therapist for many years before becoming a coach, I am attracted to complex and complicated characters, and I am known for having really good instincts about people. They know I am especially fascinated by women who step out of the shadows and shine brightly, one way or another. I had never even heard of Anna Delvey before seeing it in the top series section on Netflix but became pretty obsessed with her. After binge-watching the Netflix series, I read articles, watched interviews and documentaries, and scrolled through all the IG accounts that may or may not be hers. But this episode is not about my psychological assessment of Anna’s character, motives, or personality pathology. It is about my thoughts on the skills and mindset that almost made her a very successful founder and entrepreneur, someone I think we can learn from, regardless of what we think of her motivation or methods. So, what ARE those lessons? Manage your imageNetwork with the right people Project unshakable confidence It takes money to make moneyDevelop resilience This episode includes a clip from my interview on “The True Fiction Project Podcast’ with host Reenita Hora. If you want to hear me speculate about what drives Anna Delvey, whether she was/is a narcissist or a sociopath, did a history of childhood trauma leave her incapable of empathy, and more, check it out! https://spoti.fi/3uPFHtMThere was very little holding Anna Delvey back, and she didn’t let “little things” like a lack of money, connections or influence stand in her way. At least until those four years in Riker’s Island held her back in a very big way. But what about you? Chances are there is a single habit that if you could identify and change would help you realize your entrepreneurial dreams without breaking any laws! The Boundaries Series: How to Create a Distraction-Free Business
This is the third in The Boundaries Series of solo episodes, and this one is called How to Create a Distraction-Free Business. The Client Journey in 6 Steps with Abby Herman
If you have an online business (or even a brick-and-mortar business you market online) you are a content marketer. Content includes blogs, podcasts, YouTube channels, email sequences, newsletters, sales pages, social media posts, and even short-form videos on TikTok, Linked In, IG, or FB. Content is everywhere and in order to leverage the know, like, and trust factor, you need to have a strategy, not just put yourself out there in a random way and hope it works. Whether you have a lot to say but it’s all over the place or your mind goes completely blank the minute you sit down in front of your laptop to write an email sequence, there is hope for you. Today’s guest, Abby Herman was an elementary school teacher who took her talent for writing and teaching and launched a business as a content strategist over a decade ago. She helps online entrepreneurs to create awareness, educate and inform, demonstrate their expertise, convert consumers to customers, and long-lasting relationships. She has a way of thinking about content creation that takes the guessing and stressing right out, making it more simple and sustainable than you ever dreamed of. I first learned of Abby over a year ago, when I heard her being interviewed on a podcast, but we did not connect in a meaningful way until we both joined Podwize, the membership community for podcasters run by Angie Trueblood, a couple of months ago. The day this episode is being published is the day Abby is interviewing me for her podcast, The Content Experiment. How’s that for synchronicity? Here are a few of the highlights of our convo:What minimum viable content marketing looks like The health journey that led Abby to rebrand her podcast and business How her personal values show up in how much free content she shares When you don’t choose, you actually lose (less really is best) What content to give away for free and what to charge for Easy ways to stay top of mind with former clients and customers Mentioned in this episode:The Podwize Co-Op with Angie Trueblood The Alcohol Experiment book by Annie Grace www.panda.doc (the CRM that Abby uses for her content ) If you’d like to connect with Abby Herman and The Content Experiment after listening to this interview:Free e-book: https://thecontentexperiment.com/get-client-journey-ebook/Podcast: https://thecontentexperiment.com/podcast-episodes/Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/AbbyMHerman/Is there a gap between where you are and where you want to be? The Boundaries Series: Obligation Management
This episode is the second in The Boundaries Series, where we are unpacking the challenge of doing things we don’t really want to be doing, and for all the wrong reasons. Warning: If you have not already heard me say this, I have fully embraced the feedback that one of my favorite clients by calling me “The Speaker of Uncomfortable Truths.” This episode reflects that. In my work with female solopreneurs, I often hear about situations my clients are involved in but wish they weren’t. Sometimes, the situation involves a team member or a client, but it can also be with someone they collaborate with. The underlying issue is related to boundaries and specifically how we deal with feeling obligated, based on the principle of reciprocity. The bottom line is that each of us has limits when it comes to our capacity and if we are spending time, energy, effort, and dollars doing things out of a sense of obligation, rather than choice, we will feel strained and drained, not to mention resentful. If you are a creative or a healer, in particular, this will drag you toward burnout and possibly clinical depression. Time management is important, energy management is important, but obligation management is also necessary, so let’s get to it. Here is a quick overview of what we are going to cover in today’s solo episode: Why resentment is the emotion we need to pay attention to in businessThe connection between bandwidth, boundaries, and burnout Reciprocity is the exchange of mutual benefit. Learn to measure the mutual part. The NFA (No-F*cking-Around) Money Mindset with Dr. Amanda Barrientez
Ever since I was a teenager, I have loved a good makeover. I am completely enthralled by the dramatic transformations on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Property Brothers, but I am also a sucker for a great dog rescue story where an allegedly aggressive Pittie becomes another family’s Good Boi. But, the stories that inspire me most are those of women who had their back against the wall and came out swinging. No matter what is in her rearview mirror, when a resilient and determined woman reaches her point of no return, she shifts into a “no fucking around” mindset, and from that point forward, everything changes. Today’s guest, Amanda Barrientez, also known as Dr. Amanda, The Money Healer has the kind of story I love the most. Because I was a social worker and psychotherapist who worked with kids from disadvantaged backgrounds in a former life, Amanda’s early life experiences sounded all too familiar. Fast forward to marriage, kids, grad school, divorce, and Amanda found herself on the professor track but paid so poorly that she and the kids qualified for food stamps. This was her NFA turning point. Amanda recently interviewed me for her YouTube NFA Money Stories series and I learned then that nothing is off-limits for her, so we were able to go deep into some really important areas not often discussed on a podcast. I am grateful that she was so open and generous with her life experience and the work she has done to transform it. This is not your typical rags to riches story where it's all sunshine and rainbows, touting entrepreneurship as easy and fun. One of the many things we agreed on is that getting what you want is hard. And it’s also worth it. Here are a few of the highlights:Growing up as a little brown girl in an all-white upper-class neighborhoodLearning about all the ‘isms’ in grad school after being raised by evangelicalsDitching the victim mindset for extreme ownership Her 3 step system for blasting your money blocks Amanda walked away from being a professor to become a money mindset and manifestation coach. She helps female entrepreneurs reach 6 figures and beyond through her 3 step money mindset system and NFA Money Mamas mastermind. Smart, funny, down to earth, and refreshingly candid, this convo was satisfying on so many levels and you are just going to love it and her. The Boundaries Series: Creating Consistent Client Outcomes
Today’s solo episode tackles the problem of saying “yes” to clients you probably should say “no” to and why, and how to both create predictable outcomes and avoid both negative ones and surprises. Creating a specific way of working with people and sticking to it, instead of trying to help everyone you think you should, or believe you can spare you countless heartaches. The truth is that you really can’t help everybody. None of us can. Your personal values may include being flexible, adaptable, and accommodating, but this can get you into some real hot water in your business. This is not a matter of experience or expertise, or how long you’ve been in the business, it’s about the slippery slope of unmet expectations and human nature. This episode is the first in The Boundaries Series, where we will be exploring a number of things that we do that limit our success because we have weak-ass boundaries and don’t even know it. Spoiler alert: the way I look at and talk about boundaries is guaranteed to open your eyes to all kinds of things you probably aren’t even thinking about, in addition to the boundary nonsenses you already know you’re dealing with. Here is a quick overview of what we are going to cover in today’s solo episode: The Default Yes is a major blindspot we can’t afford to keep ignoring Pink Flags to look for when deciding who to work with A Signature System helps you create predictably good outcomes How to improve your practices to ensure satisfied clients Mentioned in this episode:Bridge2More marketing consultant Claudia Schalkx https://bit.ly/3LGPw4NWhat’s Holding You Back Quiz https://bit.ly/obstaclesquizWith 20+ years of experience as a psychotherapist and 5+ years as a coach, I rarely meet a solopreneur who wouldn’t benefit from some expert guidance in this area. Closing the Performance Gap: A Client Success Story with Dallas
When you are a highly educated professional woman who knows she is capable of so much more than you are demonstrating in your career and personal life, it can be tough to figure out where the real problem lies. Is it your motivation, your expectations, your habits, your mindset, or a combination of all of the above, and how do you figure it out? Luckily for my client, Dallas, one of her friends had worked with me and told her what a great experience she had, and then she listened to a few episodes of this podcast and thought, “this might be just what I need.” There is a hilarious ‘blooper” during this episode that demonstrates why radical self-acceptance is one of the core principles I practice and teach. You will see why if you stick with the episode all the way to the end. We talk about why she decided to work with me, what we focused on and how it has transformed her thinking about money, being a lawyer, and allowed her to reach her billing goals without so much stress and beating up on herself. It was not a perfect and predictable path and at one point, Dallas felt like she had lost sense of where we were going, so we talk about how we resolved that. Here are the highlights of this conversation:The performance gap between our productivity and our potential Toxic productivity and its alternative How to practice radical self-acceptance one day at a timeRight now goals vs legacy goals Pain, suffering, and unnecessary suffering This episode’s Mic Drop Moment: “ I learned to stop selling from a hypothetical pocketbook.” (Dallas) Are you feeling the frustration of knowing you are capable of so much more but don’t know how to close your performance gap? The Science Behind Inevitable Success
The more experienced I become as a business coach, the more convinced I am that the secret to success is understanding how the human brain works and how to outsmart it. Our brains do not care if we are happy, fulfilled, or reaching our potential. They are giving themselves an A+ if we are still alive, because that is actually our brain’s job description. Being successful requires that you use your mind to bypass the brain’s default programming and in this episode, I am going to share with you a couple of hacks for how to do it. Here are just a few of the highlights: Thoughts about what we are capable of are learned and can be unlearned.Beliefs are just thoughts we have a lot of experience thinking. Your brain is a lazy mofo that burns a lot of calories defending the status quo Imposter complex, self-sabotage, and limiting beliefs are autopilot settingsHow to think like your success has already happened, making it inevitable Want a double dose of this life-changing wisdom about how your brain actually works?
