031: Steve Winenger of Ripcord Industries and Rally Rats Why Overlanding and How Gun Culture
Talk Back to MeThe overlap between Gun Culture and Overlanding once again come to the front with our conversation with Steve Winenger of Ripcord Industries and Rally Rats. Some start working on cars and end up building guns. Other grow up shooting and proceed to challenge their self-reliance on the road. Ripcord Industries offers a rail at the same time that Night Vision is becoming more available, but that's just one side of the story. We address both what they considered when designing it, and what it looks like bringing something like it to market as more small manufacturers are trying to get a foothold, as well as what expertise is needed in the Culture. @rallyrats9845 is the youtube channel for the Overlanding Adventures.Ripcord Industries can be found on Instagram at @ripcord_industries The Rail and Training can be found at www.ripcordindustries.comFollow us on Instagram at @redactedllc, Store reopens in 2023 at www.redactedllc.com Support the REDACTED Culture Cast at redactedculture.locals.comSSP and boutique products at redactedllc.comFollow us on Instagram at @redactedllc

030: Get Ready for Hard Times and Ethical Pitfalls with The Fourth Turning
Talk Back to MeThe 4th Turning, or Stauss-Howe Generational Theory continually rises to the forefront of conversations considering what's just over the Horizon. Strong Men create Good TimesGood Times create Weak MenWeak Men create Hard TimesHard Times create Strong MenBefore we are carried away by the implications of this theory, we must consider what we ourselves are saying when we argue that this theory is true. 029: Adam from TacSwap on where Tech, Culture, and the Market Meet
Talk Back to MeWhile we talk about things like a free speech, the free market, and the free exchange of ideas, such things often look quite different in the real world. As we struggle upwards towards the ideals set before us, we encounter events where what was muddy must become clear. In this discussion with Adam from TacSwap we talk about how Tech platforms interact with Human Rights at the point of the marketplace. It's not an easy topic, and full of landmines, abbreviations, and assumptions, so we work through the foundations. 028: Chris Blau on on Time Investment and the Sense of Belonging
Talk Back to MeAt least in American Gun Culture, there are a few clearly defined point of entry such as Military Experience, Hunting, or Competition shooting. But these backgrounds give no guarantees. It has been more than a decade since Chris Blau started behind the Gun Counter, and as we look back at how we got here, we also get a chance to look at what's over the horizon.1911 Syndicate accomplishes an unexpected fusion of Gun Culture with Real Estate, and once you look at it, the two subjects come together as our community expands beyond the Gun Safe. While we remark on what achievement might look like, we're regularly reminded that the milestones are just stepping stones at this point. 027: What is Motivating Gun Culture?
Talk Back to MeA Man with a Why Will Endure any How. This statement identifies the locus of true power within the individual. It's not the means that determine our future, but the thing we are aiming at. Today's short show welcomes you to consider the "What For" of Gun Culture, and opens up the conversation to what we are aiming at. Instead of spending all our time on what isn't working, we turn our attention to what we wish it to be more like. 026: Josh Froelich on Competing at the World Level and Expanding into Culture
Talk Back to MeJosh Froelich represents the higher echelon of competition shooting, but that's simply the introduction. One key aspect of Gun Culture is how we experience the relationship between gear, practice, performance, and goal setting. While some say things like mission-dictates-gear, it's not uncommon to find similar principles albeit with different language in the competition scene. While the conversations starts with chasing widgets, Josh Froelich talks about what it took for him to keep improving, the pitfalls of mindset, and the milestones that led to where he's at. The microcosm of Competition echoes outward into the macrocosm of Gun Culture. 025: Chris Fettes on becoming a Navy SEAL, Ice Cream, and Saving Lives
Talk Back to MeFrom the outside looking in, it may be easy to define military members by their unit, record, or number of deployments. But from the inside looking out, individuals in the military have hobbies, and interests which ride on a narrow line of defining who they are. Turns out the age of individualism comes with the threat of perpetual identity crises. Chris Fettes talks about the need for acceptance and how it motivated him to become a Navy SEAL. After leaving the military, he has carried on an interest in both Ice Cream and Saving Lives into new ventures going forward. While media outside the military simplifies SEALs as the elite of the elite, and those in the military sometimes describe them as the counter-culture of Special Operations. See how a SEAL's dedication to the craft applies to Ice Cream at @befreecrafticecream on Instagram. 024: Naïveté, Cynicism, and Wisdom in Gun Culture
Talk Back to MeThese three concepts sit at the intersection of morality and knowledge and are thus considered in regards to both Epistemology and Ethics. We see the presence of each within Gun Culture, and ourselves. How do we deal with betrayal? With Bad Ideas? With manipulation and corruption, and being a poor friend? 023: Frank Bito of Bull Creek Strategic on the Duality of Contracting
Talk Back to MeThe time has come to let die the idea that private contracting is grass-is-greener situation. In exchange for looser uniform restrictions, and a modicum of control over one's schedule, one has to put up with constant pressure to leave home behind, and will generally face greater scrutiny when it comes to the use of force. Frank Bito, of Bull Creek Strategic, and Escarpment Arms talks about the cost of friendship and cutthroat nature of the Private Contracting Circle. After a time in the Army, and continuing to work in a conflict zone, he started a training company and gun shop. One constant that's more substance than style within the contracting world is this: Your Reputation is Everything. Similarly, no matter where one exists within gun culture, building one's reputation on a foundation of sand almost always catches up. Sometimes this looks like 'Stolen Valor' but more often it boils down to overpromising and underperforming, consistently, over time. 022: Garett Schwindel of KÄGWERKS
Talk Back to MeThe battlefield is always changing, and while we can look back at the technology that has played a decisive role in the history of warfare: Napoleon's Cannons, Industrialized Manufacturing of Ammunition, Battlefield Medicine, it is the people and ideas that move them which makes the greatest impact. Without human will, they are inanimate objects. Garett Schwindel joins us from KÄGWERKS to discuss lessons learned through the different places he's been, and how Gun Culture, Social Norms, and Individual Liberty have changed in that time.
