046: Jared of Orion Training Group on the New Ethic of Instructors
Talk Back to MeNot long ago, it was common for Instructors to look to lawyers to inform them of the ethical framework they were expected to teach. But today, Gun Culture is much more concerned with both the moral and legal question when it comes to the use of Force. As Instructors have changed the material and methods of teaching available to open enrollment courses, some of this can be attributed to the above-noted shift in the community. As the head of Orion Training Group, Jared Arceneaux returns to the REDACTED Culture Cast to discuss the finer details and argue for what he believes is the appropriate ethical framework for instruction. Gun Culture is more than possessing an item, but instead implies a sense of action and pursuit of virtue. 045: The Human Right to Privacy
Talk Back to MePrivacy may just be more important than the Right to Bear Arms. From brigands in the streets, to the halls of Congress, the term 'Rights' gets thrown around so flippantly that we should wonder if it retains any true value. In contrast, such unsanctimonious use can also be seen as tribute to the weight the concept of a right imposes on reality. As our world changes through the amoral development of technology, to the morally dubious encroachment of a surveillance state, it is not only what we think, but how we think about what we believe that will have implications on the world to come. Privacy is something that can be threatened, but why we value it must be called into question. What we believe about morality, and the rights of the individual will have long-tail impact on what we argue to be true. 044: Scott Chapman on Humanization Before, During, and After War
Talk Back to MeWe often hear about the battlefield of ideas, and that the Academy is where people may contend with and present their beliefs, theories, and arguments without fear of censorship or retaliation. Whether or not that was ever a reality may never be known, but what is certain, is that the Ivory Tower has not been operating by this standard for some time. One example of where this goes wrong is when the ideas of people who, isolated from skin in the game, begin making the rules for those who have to live them, such as the Rules of Engagement. Another example is when it becomes the opinion of the academics, that soldiers are trained to be automatons, built by the institution to dehumanize their opponents. Scott Chapmen entered Ranger Battalion just before September 11th, 2001. More than 20 years later, after a great variety of experiences, he has begun writing about what he saw in those experiences, and in his own self. 042: What We Can Learn from Left Wing Violence
Talk Back to MeWhile politicians and pundits make a scene calling this or that person violent, as a form of implying moral status, we take a look at various pieces of contemporary Left-Wing (American) literature to glean lessons on how we think about the subject. As difficult as it is to keep politics out of any conversation, this solo presentation addresses what we can learn about the ethical (note, not legal advice) use of force, through considering how these left wing authors implicitly categorize the people they write about in terms of metaphysics, when they should be doing so only ethically. From the Rules of Engagement, to Escalation of Force, we consider what conditions are necessary for the ethical use of force in self defense. The left, in this case, has definitively embraced the concept of premptive self defense, which quickly invites the straw man arguments perhaps rightly thrown at it. But, in order to properly argue against it, we must understand the statements implied, as well as why they are incorrect, in order to do what is ethical. 041: Josh Munger on Aesthetics, and how the Brace Ruling Affects the People
Talk Back to MeThe news of the new ruling put forth by the ATF regarding braces has rippled through the culture, and while we have seen actions taken in the past that will effect a section of the population, for once we are looking at a change that will impact us all. The last 15+ years has seen a rise of the popularity of firearms like the AR-15, dominating Gun Culture in America.Today's guest, Josh Munger, entered into Gun Culture through two vectors: photography and business. Where some enter through competition shooting, military, law enforcement, or legacy businesses, Josh brings his own perspective as both a creative and curator. In this show we discuss how the new Ruling will impact the everyman and the aesthetics of Gun Culture.Follow Josh Munger on Instagram at @joshmungerphoto and at joshmunger.comCheck out his business at www.roqueconcepts.comSupport our channel at www.redactedllc.comKeep up with upcoming projects on Instagram at @redactedllc Support the REDACTED Culture Cast at redactedculture.locals.comSSP and boutique products at redactedllc.comFollow us on Instagram at @redactedllc

039: SHOTSHOW 2023 Culture Update, Intro to the Philosophy of the Outlaw
Talk Back to MeStreamed out of order because as those who have been to SHOTSHOT know, by the end you're so tired, it's best to get some rest before seriously reconsidering what took place. SHOTSHOW has stood as somewhat of a Mecca to Gun Culture for a while, with the exception of it being more of an event then a location. Functioning primarily as an Industry Show, every year it draws attention, either through new products being announced, or new drama to unfold. 2023 felt different. Quite a bit different, and while some of it had to do with the ATF, that's not all.Plus, here's the tip of the Iceberg when it comes to the Philosophy of the Outlaw. 040: Mike Glover on the Fourth Turning, Focus on the Long Game
Talk Back to MeAs the founder of Fieldcraft Survival, Mike Glover has taken part in shifting the colloquial concept of preparedness away from self-isolation in a bunker, instead replacing it with identifying the value in being an asset to your community. At the same time, the book The Fourth Turning has come back into vogue, spoken with the implication that we are approaching the Crisis. First Published in 1997, The Fourth Turning presents a theory that American History operates in a 4-phase generational cycle, beginning with the High, and followed an Awakening, an Unravelling, and finally a Crisis, before restarting with another High. Now that we've both read the book, Mike Glover and Forrest discuss just what phase we are in, and what it means when we are aiming at creating a better future, instead of simply waiting for the Crisis. Preparedness, as a virtue, must aim further than the pending apocalypse. 038: Josh Bronson, Founder of DISCO32
Talk Back to MeWhile in the past, Gun Culture has looked at the partition between military and civilian gear as one of quality and capability, that wall has since collapsed under the weight of reality, be it the rise of insurgency, or the return to a more pure understanding of Human Rights. DISCO32 has made a place for themselves bridging the gap between military accessories and civilian available radio equipment. Beginning with the fundamental question "what is a radio" and what is it for, we start from the foundations of the why which informs the how of communications systems. As Gun Culture continues to focus on teamwork and community, in order for that to take place, whether in the day-to-day or emergencies, we take a second look at how radios add value to any endeavor.
