The Practical Stoic
The Practical Stoic is a podcast by Australian poet, musician, philosopher and founder Simon J. E. Drew. Originally started in 2017, The Practical Stoic Podcast became widely known as a valuable resource for those who were interested in finding practical, down-to-earth wisdom and easily-appliable explanations of the writings of ancient Stoics like Seneca the Younger, Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus. In 2021, Simon changed the podcast name to "The Walled Garden" in order to make way for the founding of The Walled Garden Philosophical Society - a global community of philosophers and students dedicated to sharing the philosophical path together. Now, in 2023, Simon is revamping The Practical Stoic podcast with new insights, lessons, and interviews.

Burn The Boats
Stoicism, personal development, and the path of progress - that's what the Practical Stoic podcast was all about, and we retain this message now in The Walled Garden podcast and community. This episode is a re-release of an old podcast episode of the Practical Stoic Podcast (before rebranding to The Walled Garden). For a while, most of my pre-2020 episodes were only available to patrons. I have now made the choice to publish all pre-2020 episodes in order to give the complete view of my path through Stoicism, moving from the more practical personal-developmental ideas toward the deeper philosophical and theological understanding of Stoicism. The podcast is, of course, now called The Walled Garden. The Walled Garden came about in late 2021, and is a collaboration between myself, Sharon Lebell, and Kai Whiting. The Walled Garden is not just a podcast—it's a community of like-minded philosophers and seekers who are dedicated to the pursuit of truth, wisdom, virtue, and the divine. We hope you'll join us at thewalledgarden.com. If you're interested in one-on-one philosophical coaching with me, you can go to simonjedrew.com, or to thewalledgarden.com/mentors Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Michael Tremblay | The Life & Teachings of Epictetus
Michael Tremblay is a PhD. student in philosophy at Queen’s University, Kingston. Before going to Queen’s University he completed a B.A. and M.A. in philosophy at Carleton University in Ottawa. During his time at Carleton he wrote a Master’s thesis on the Stoic Epictetus. His PhD work continues to examine Stoic ethics, and the question of how the Stoics thought we should cultivate our virtue. Michael’s main interest is in ancient philosophy, specifically moral education in the Stoics. He’s fascinated by the Hellenistic conception of philosophy as a way of life, which is to be practiced in order to achieve virtue and happiness. He is also interested in philosophy as a skill or craft, and how training and practice factor into becoming a better philosopher. Beyond philosophy, Michael is passionate about martial arts and competes regularly in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling.
