Episode 043 - Robert Panariello: Managing Injuries Like a Pro
In Episode 043 of the D&D Fitness Radio podcast, we speak with veteran physical therapist Robert Panariello, who also worked extensively as a Strength and Conditioning coach for a good number of years. Because injuries are a part of life for anyone who is active, we discuss the key issues around both minimizing the occurrence of injury, but also developing a strategy around treating injuries effectively. Rob identifies scenarios where injuries can occur and outlines the process followed to ensure successful outcomes. Individuals must also do their homework when searching for a rehabilitation professional to assist them with their recovery from injury. A plan must be developed that progressively takes the patient from injury and inactivity to greater function and more intense levels of activity regardless if they are a professional athlete, regular adult or young athlete. Robert Panariello is a Founding Partner of both Professional Physical Therapy and the Professional Athletic Performance Center. He has Bachelor Degrees in Physical Therapy and Physical Education/Athletic Training from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Queens College in Queens, NY. Rob has more than 30 years of experience in the related fields of Sports Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, and the Performance Training of Athletes. His experience includes the study of the Science of Strength and Conditioning of Weightlifters and various sport athletes in Bulgaria, the former Soviet Union, and former East Germany. He previously held the positions of Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at St. John’s University of New York (1986-1995), the World League of American Football NY/NJ Knights (1991), and the WUSA NY POWER Women’s Professional Soccer League (2001-2002). Episode 042 - Mike Boyle: Staying Adaptive and Relevant in an Ever Changing World
In Episode 042 of the D&D Fitness Radio podcast, we spend time with veteran Strength and Conditioning Coach, Mike Boyle, after first discussing the challenges and pressures of being anointed as a fitness and exercise expert on social media. Coach Boyle provides his perspective on how quickly things have changed but, more importantly, how we have to adapt to change in an exceptionally dynamic world. We discuss the changes in fitness and performance industries, but also the important differences in how we communicate and connect with the younger generation in these various fields. Marketing and advertising in business has changed dramatically, and those who are interested in developing their brand and marketing their services must stay ahead of the curve. Knowing your audience is critically important and having a strategy around developing a relationship with a younger audience must be part of your approach. Michael Boyle is one of the foremost experts in the fields of Strength and Conditioning, Functional Training and general fitness. He currently spends his time lecturing, teaching, training and writing. In 1996 Michael co founded Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, one of the first for-profit strength and conditioning companies in the world. Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning exists for one reason: to provide performance enhancement training for athletes of all levels. Athletes trained range from junior high school students to All Stars in almost every major professional sport.Prior to Co- founding Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, Michael served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Boston University for 15 years, also for the past 25 years he been the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Men's Ice Hockey at Boston University. Mike also was the Boston Red Sox strength and conditioning coach in 2013 that won the World Series. In addition to his duties at Boston University and the Red Sox, from 1991-1999 Boyle served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. Episode 041 - Dr Charlie Weingroff - A Professional Approach to Performance and Health
In Episode 041 of the D&D Fitness Radio podcast, we sit down with Dr. Charlie Weingroff and discuss his work as a physical therapist and sport performance consultant. Charlie describes himself as a problem solver that engages in a detailed gap analysis process for professional teams and athletes, as well as national sports organizations. He walks us through the process of identifying needs for his clients, and then presenting solutions. In many cases, organizations will defy the recommendations and continue to do what they do. But through his professional approach to performance and health, Charlie persists and ultimately finds the right solution for the right situation that fits with the organization and individuals he is trying to help. There are no easy roads to success.Charlie is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a Certified Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is currently a Physical Therapist and Strength & Conditioning Coach at Drive 495 in Manhattan, NY and Fit For Life in Marlboro, NJ. He also is a member of the Nike Executive Performance Council and serves as the Physical Performance Lead and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Canadian Men’s National Basketball Team. He previously has served as the Director of Physical Performance and Resiliency and Lead Physical Therapist for the United States Marines Corps Special Operations Command in Camp Lejeune, NC. Episode 039 - Aubrey Huff: On the Ball and Off the Cuff
In Episode 039 of the D&D Fitness Radio Podcast, we talk in depth with former Major League Baseball star, Aubrey Huff. Aubrey had an amazing career that spanned over multiple teams. He has also enjoyed the experience of winning the World Series on multiple occasions. We talk about Aubrey’s career, and the key moments that have stuck with him over time. Episode 038 - Dr. Pat Davidson: Putting Mass and Hype into Fitness in NYC
Pat Davidson, Ph.D, is an exercise physiologist, strength and conditioning coach, author, consultant, and traveling lecturer. Pat started out in the fitness world as an athlete who was looking to find any training and nutrition tool possible to make him the best he could possibly be at sports. This passion for training knowledge ultimately led Pat to pursuing a Master’s in Science in Strength and Conditioning, and a Ph.D in Exercise Physiology. Pat has worked as a Professor of Exercise Science at Springfield College and Brooklyn College, along with being the Director of Continuing Education and Training Methodology at Peak Performance in NYC.In Episode 038, we discuss Pat’s involvement in a group fitness project in New York City that he has been planning for many years.
