On Wednesday, January 6th, we saw President Trump call forth and unleash fascist mobs to storm the U.S. Capitol. This was an attempt at a coup. It did not succeed this time, but the danger from even a failed coup is to be taken seriously, setting the stage for them to come back sooner or later to re-seize power – with or without Trump. Sam Goldman recaps the last few days leading into the Electoral College vote expected to confirm Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election. Sam was with Refuse Fascism speaking out at Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington on Saturday, when Proud Boys and other fascist Trump supporters left a trail of destruction elsewhere in the city, including burning a BLM flag ripped from a historic Black church. Trump's former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn gave a speech at one of their rallies, stating, "I've been asked—on a scale of one to ten, who will be the next president of the United States, and I say Donald Trump. Ten." What is the danger and what do we do about it? A political form of Christian fundamentalism makes up the most organized solid base of this fascist movement. The 74 million include millions deeply mired in a world of lies, crazy lunatic conspiracy theories and a vicious anti-science mindset that has already killed a quarter of a million people from COVID, with the pandemic now out of control.
