Hector Quiroga: Prove Them Wrong
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_628_Hector_Quiroga.mp3
Hector Quiroga is the epitome of the American dream. In 2000, he left Columbia at age 17 and came to the US without knowing any English. Today he’s an immigration lawyer and author of Prove Them Wrong: One Immigrant’s 10-Year Journey from Bankrupt to Millionaire, a phenomenal book that I highly recommend. Hector faced enormous obstacles in pursuing his dream of becoming a lawyer. He was denied entrance into law school seven times, was repeatedly told no, and got frustrated when people would “form an opinion quickly” about him without knowing him (a common challenge for immigrants). This made Hector mad, but it also fueled him to prove that he could do it. He graduated law school in 2008, just as the real estate market collapsed in the US. Between the two of them, Hector and his wife made $38,000 a year and couldn’t make the $8000 payment on their $500K student loans. Hector realized, “They don’t teach you how to have a business when you’re in law school.” But with the right mindset, he was able to turn everything around. Seven years after filing for bankruptcy, Hector broke his first million in 2017. From there, it took 36 months to reach $10 million. In this episode, we discuss: Hector’s love for the immigration process—which is about giving people an opportunity, taking a chance on them, and helping them make a better life for themselves by getting a green card and citizenshipHow Hector immersed himself in the English language in order to learn it as quickly as possibleHow he started off by offering Chapter 7 bankruptcies for $400-$600 (when the going rate was $1200), while marketing himself on CraigslistHow sexual abuse is rampant among the Latino community and nobody talks about itHow Hector was on the verge of quitting—until a seminar with RJon Robins (owner/founder of How to Manage a Small Law Firm) changed everythingHow there’s a message in your mess—“your mess is part of your message”How trust issues prevent you from being good at delegationAll the fear barriers Hector went through to get to where he is today Plus, he discusses an intense exercise on sales that he did during a seminar with RJon Robins—that opened Hector’s eyes about his own self-worth issue that caused him to charge low rates.

Become the Cause and the Effect Will Take Care of Itself
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_627.mp3
The biggest test in life is that you don’t quit. In 1986 I went through basic training and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) in the US Army. There were numerous, specific tests you had to pass in order to move to the next level—a weight test, height test, physical agility test, ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test. I remember stressing out about it. As the tests became progressively more challenging, I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to pass them. Meanwhile, exhaustion was overcoming me. To this day, I’ve never felt that exhausted in mind or body in my life. There are also “tests” when it comes to school, grades, and other areas of life where you want to move forward. With the Army, the idea wasn’t so much that you pass the test—but that you didn’t quit when things got rough. In this episode I discuss: How Army life revolved around very little sleep, constant physical exercise, mental exercise, and training all the timeHow they try to get you to quit in the Navy SEALs—because if you can’t pass the tests, then you’ll never be as good as you need to be, to endure real-life assignments assignments as a Navy SEALHow my mentor drilled into me the idea that I had to make a decision—the decision needed to be mine, and I needed to follow through on itHow my mind found more reasons to quit than to move forward—yet everything I did with my mentor was based on the idea that I had to “step into it”“The test isn’t the real test” and, “whatever problem you’re trying to solve, isn’t the real problem”How business is nothing but problem-solving day after day—and you must be willing to make mistakes just to have enough data to be able to make a different decision, so you can continue to move forward Failure only exists in the mind of someone who’s going to quit. The real test for success is—are you willing to keep going, no matter what? Do you have what it takes to keep going, regardless of the outcome? Do you have the drive and willpower to keep going beyond what you think your physical and mental capabilities are?

You Were Born to be Rich, but Trained to be a Consumer
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_626.mp3
Many people go through life being a consumer. They were never taught that they could have an amazing life. They weren’t ever told, “You can be great” or, “You can go after your dream.” Most of the things people buy are based on a psychological, unconscious idea of “need.” Over 100 years ago, companies discovered that if they can associate their product or service with something that fits the average consumer’s value system, that consumer would convince themselves to buy things they don’t truly need. Today as we go through life, we’re constantly exposed to marketing and advertising, where companies try to convince us of all the different things we need and want to buy. When something is consistently projected into your awareness over and over again—and you see other people around you buying and using the same products and services—you’ll convince yourself that you need those things too. If you’re in business, or if you’re in sales, it’s important for you to understand how people make buying decisions. Your mindset around “buying things” needs to shift—because you have to influence other individuals to buy your own products or services. In this episode I discuss: How your success in sales conversations is affected by whether or not YOU buy things based on needs, or wantsHow to change your own buying behavior, so that you’re not a walking contradiction during sales calls (or in your marketing)How the average person was trained to go to work for someone elseHow growing up with a family with a fixed income creates a certain language, belief system, and value system that leads to people being “responsible adults”How the word “responsible” means different things to different peopleHow most conversations are reactive in nature—and a sales conversation is very different than any other conversation you have in your life To get better at sales, ask yourself, what do you really want? Are you allowing yourself to go after what YOU want? Do you go after the resources you need to have what you want?… or do you just settle for what you need? If you settle for what you need, you’ll have a hard time influencing other people to buy your product or service.

Success is Not a Hobby
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_625.mp3
What determines whether a person becomes successful, or whether they struggle endlessly in life? To answer this question, we need to look at the environment in which we were raised. Many people were raised in an environment where the focus was on SURVIVAL—not on someone’s desire to create the life of their dreams. The truth is, success is easy. We were born to be a success. Each one of us has a purpose in life…but change is the hard part for most people. If you subconsciously learned the idea of “survival” growing up, it’s going to be difficult for you to change into the person you need to be in order to become successful. Many people stay stuck in the same place for years, because of their resistance to change. They’re afraid to let go of the past. In this episode, I discuss: How your parents’ or caretakers’ view of life subconsciously impacted your ability to be successfulHow we spend 20 years of our life under the authority of other people, asking constant permission for everything we doWhy you have to BECOME the person who can pull off and master certain skill sets in business, in order to achieve successWhy the answer to your struggles is usually found in the place where you least want to lookHow the people from your past generally don’t have the ability to support the “new you” that you want to become, because they don’t share the same values (the moment you start to change, they feel threatened)Why you can’t have safety and risk at the same time2 questions you should ask yourself in order to embrace success If you’re stuck, ask yourself: “What am I resisting changing in my life?” And why are you resisting that change? When one part of you wants to move forward—and the other part of you doesn’t want to lose what you’ve created from the past—that’s when you’re torn. You’re literally split in half. When you’re in that place, you can’t possibly make the right decisions or grow the way you need to grow, to follow the desire in your heart—because you’re always cutting yourself a little bit short, based on what you’re afraid to walk away from that’s behind you.

The Starting Point is Desire
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_624.mp3
Think and Grow Rich has helped millions of people become multimillionaires all over the world. The author, Napoleon Hill, says you can’t just “wish” or “hope” for success in something—you have to actually believe it’s possible and that you can do it. He writes, “There’s a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive it. No one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it.” Many people get stuck from moving forward, because they don’t believe they can be successful. They don’t believe they can be, do, or have the things they truly desire in life. The average person over-identifies with the word “impossible” and finds all the reasons why something CAN’T be done. Their mind is focused on the obstacles that appear to be holding them back (usually time and money). This negative bias towards their life is based on all the things that have gone wrong in their past, and all the negative influences from other people who told them they can’t do it. This blocks people from taking the first step. I’ve helped countless business owners break through the limiting belief that they have to have money before they can start doing something. That’s not true. Everything you need comes AFTER you make a decision. The decision comes first—and the starting point is your desire. What do you want to be, do, or have? In this episode you’ll learn: Success comes to those who are “success conscious”; failure comes to those who are “failure conscious”In order to be successful at any endeavor, you must learn to redirect your mind away from the obstacle and towards the success you want Open-mindedness is essential for belief; closed minds do not inspire faith, courage, or belief“No more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand abundance and prosperity, than is required to accept misery and poverty”How the Law of Polarity can help you break through negative, one-sided, “all-or-nothing” thinking that keeps you stuckWhenever you notice something, the opposite of that thing is always present and true at the same time (you can’t have a question without an answer; you can’t have a problem without a solution)How you might be making the problems and risks too big in your life

Stephanie Stuckey: UnStuck: Rebirth of an American Icon
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_623_Stephanie_Stuckey.mp3
Today my guest is Stephanie Stuckey, granddaughter of the man who founded Stuckey’s—a roadside pecan stand in Eastman, Georgia, in 1937 during the Great Depression. As the first national roadside retail chain, the company grew to almost 370 stores throughout the US, along every major highway. Stuckey’s became synonymous with “the road trip.”Before there was Love’s, RaceTrac, Wawa, or Buc-ee’s—there was Stuckey’s. Stephanie’s grandfather sold the company, and it was out of the family’s hands for over 50 years. The result was a decline in his legacy and the company brand—with dilapidated, sad-looking stores on the side of the road. However, one day, Stephanie got an unexpected call with an offer to buy back the family company. It was for sale. She invested her life savings and bought Stuckey’s, even though she had a full career as an attorney and an environmental advocate, and no business background. “When an opportunity like this comes along, you grab it,” she says. Today Stephanie is the CEO of Stuckey’s, and working to revive her grandfather’s legacy. The company’s sales have grown $10 million in the past 36 months, with 75 employees. “Our goal is to be the go-to snack brand for pecans in the country,” says Stephanie. In this episode, we discuss: My own experience going on family road trips all across the country, and how we couldn’t wait as kids to stop at Stuckey’s for their infamous pecan roll (the recipe of which was perfected by Stephanie’s grandmother)How Stuckey’s was an “oasis on the side of the road” that broke up the monotony of driving for hours without seeing anything—and how it provided travelers with a unique, wonderful experience, even during the era of racial segregationHow Stuckey’s started, why Stephanie’s grandfather was so passionate about expanding the company, and how it made money as a franchise by selling gasWhy Stephanie purchased the company and how that opportunity came aboutHow Stephanie is working to bring Stuckey’s back to the grandness that it that it once was Stuckey’s is a brand with “sticking power”—87 years later, they’re still around. “Our pecan snacks are rooted in roadside Americana. We represent a brand that is all about Americana—getting in a car, exploring, and that unique American sense of independence,” Stephanie says. “When you buy a pecan log roll you are celebrating the comeback.”

Flip the Script on Success Being Hard
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_622.mp3
Becoming successful is more about changing your awareness than anything else. The beliefs we’ve been given control our perception of the world we see around us. If you have a belief system that says “life is hard, success is hard, and making money is hard”—then you’ll see this belief reflected in your reality. Not realizing their beliefs control what they see and experience, many people never break out of that illusion. They live in a “matrix” where everything they see is the result of their programmed belief system. Today, our world is filled with massive amounts of information about every topic imaginable. Our minds are often easily manipulated by things that aren’t real (including AI). This is why you need to develop something inside of yourself in order to be able to “go deep” and find out the truth. In this episode, I discuss: How I started my journey of self-development in the 1990s—after tripling my income and wanting to know how I’d done thatHow I turned my car into a library by listening to books and seminars on tape during my drive to workHow I get “locked in” on an idea and want to know everything about it—so I go deep and study everything I can get my hands onHow I went through a process of deconstructing my worldview in my 20s that said, “Success isn’t for me; making a lot of money isn’t for me; success is difficult”—and how I began to see a polar opposite viewpoint of everything I’d been raised to believeHow your habitual, automatic thinking makes life difficult—and how you can shift your thinking in order to make success EASYWhy you should “go deep” and read a book more than once (you have to read it to understand it, not just to get through it) What do you notice now in your life? What do you repetitively talk about now? How are you seeing your life, currently? You’ll see the equivalent of whatever your belief system is. If you change that, you can start to tell your mind to see something different.

Never Quit When Things Get Hard
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_621.mp3
2024 is a year to do amazing things…AND I believe it will be one of the most challenging years we’ve ever seen. Laws are changing. Innovation is speeding up. Different ideas are being brought to the table when it comes to business. So many changes are taking place, for many different reasons. Most people aren’t paying attention to what’s happening around them. Many people get locked into one way of doing things—until suddenly, they look up and the unexpected has happened (like Covid), forcing them to change. People’s difficulties are created by their beliefs—consciously and unconsciously—about the world. The key idea we need to embrace is, “never quit when it gets hard.” How have you approached difficult times in the past? What have you learned from them? Have you created a plan to change how you’re going to deal with difficult things in the future? In this episode, I discuss: The massive change—and possibly even chaos—that’s about to take place in 2024 with elections, wars, and many other messy problems that humanity is trying to move throughHow we can acknowledge and accept that we’re in a difficult times, so that we can psychologically prepare for what needs to be done in our own life and business this yearHow many of us were raised with the psychological construct of “hard work” and how we self-identify with itHow people drop like flies when things get hardWhy believing that “things have to be hard” makes you look through a lens of perception that actually makes them hard (and this becomes exhausting)How you can make some basic changes in your thinking and your belief system that will allow you to sail right through difficult times Your ability to think through a challenging situation can save your business. What makes something “hard” is your perception of it. If you change the first fundamental belief in your thinking to, “Success is easy”—something shifts. By installing this as a belief in your mind, you’ll literally begin to see things through a very different lens. The solution to your problem will come to you quicker, and it will be easy. Start telling yourself that “success is easy”—that earning a lot of money is easy. You’ll start to attract the easiest path that exists in the universe. You’ll move through it very, very quickly.

True Transformation Comes From Within
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/ins.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_620.mp3
Many people believe that reaching a goal will change their life. But that’s actually an illusion. A goal gives your life direction, but the actual transformation comes from the inside—you have to BECOME the person who reaches the goal. Inner transformation doesn’t come from getting the house, the car, the money, the new relationship, or anything else. It comes from you being the best version of yourself in your present environment, today. In The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace Wattles points out that in order to transform our lives, we have to start from the spiritual nature or energetic nature of who we actually are right now. Transformation is about becoming bigger than your current environment in order to expand into something different. The biggest error people make when they set goals is, they believe that when they accomplish the goal, it will change their life experience. When many of my clients became millionaires for the first time, they realized when they got to the million, nothing really changed. Most people think, “I’ll change when I reach my goal”—but that’s not true. What do you think the goal will bring you that you can’t do right now? In this episode you’ll discover: Why your attitude or the way you’re looking at your current environment, is so importantA simple exercise to help you analyze why you’re setting a goalWhy you must learn to maximize everything in your current situation—and bring what you want into your present environmentWhy I made my 980-square foot house in Illinois as beautiful as possible 25 years ago—and how this changed my lifeThe universal law of giving and receiving and how it affects your moneyWhy reaching a goal is about creating internal transformation first—and becoming the person you need to be to reach the goalHow being your best in everything you do today, causes you to grow into the person that will be your best someplace else If you want something, start creating it right now. Start being that person right now. In order to attract what you want, you have to maximize whatever you are right now. This works for money too; this changes your expectations in life.
