Coming Back to Your True Self

Leveraging Mentors to Grow Your Confidence

In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about how easy it is to experience self-doubt and impostor syndrome when you feel different from those around you. My guest, Amber Barber, a senior director of program management in the high-tech industry, talks about her experience as the only woman studying physics when she went to college. She also talks about how often being the only woman in her workplace has led her to feel pressured to constantly prove herself. Amber shares how her experience with mentors has helped her to navigate challenges and stay focused on growing her career. Put Yourself First

In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about our universal struggle with inadequacy and self-doubt and how to find peace with who we are. My guest, Karyn Seitz, the Happiness Mentor, shares her personal journey of turning to spiritual healing to try to address her impostor syndrome, only to find that true healing comes from within. She emphasizes the importance of putting ourselves first to find true happiness. And she shares a simple, yet powerful strategy for how to do so that can change our relationship with ourselves and ensure that others get the best of us. She was frustrated that she could not deliver the results her clients wanted even though she was trying lots of different healing modalities and coaching techniques. In a fresh new search for answers, Karyn found the missing piece that would ultimately transform her life and her clients. Talking About Race in the Workplace

In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about having a conversation about race in the workplace. For many of us, talking about race is uncomfortable because it makes us feel vulnerable or insecure. But as my guests this week point out, avoiding these conversations and shying away from real opportunities for greater inclusion and belonging can ruin people’s lives. This Is Not a Dress Rehearsal

My guest, Peter George, shares how, despite his ongoing success, he continues to struggle with fears of being a fraud. Boys Get Sad Too

In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we look at the ways in which sports, social conditioning and other cultural factors make it difficult for men to navigate mental health challenges. My guest, Brian Thorne, shares his journey from veterinary medicine to sales professional and how his life goals guided him toward a better career for himself and his family. He also talks about his connection to Boys Get Sad Too and his decision to get more involved in public conversations about men’s mental health.About My GuestBrian Thorne is a mid-career Millennial who is still trying to figure it all out. He has a young kid, an old dog, and an incredible wife. All three are way too cute for him but they make a lovely family anyway. Brian works from home and has a wall full of hats. You should ask him about it. As a child Brian wanted to grow up to become a veterinarian. Although he was in veterinary school pursuing that dream, Brian says leaving medicine probably saved his life. Today there are fewer puppies and kitties in his day job, but lessons from medicine continue to shape his career in sales. Empathy changes everything. Sometimes small bandages cover the biggest wounds. And treats are best when eaten with friends. Brian says his new goal in life is to be a middle-manager who doesn't make work suck for his sales team.
