182: You Don't Have To Do The Mid-Career Burnout (Like Everyone Else In Academia)

Regardless of which academic system you work in, professors all strive for tenure or the promotional equivalent, that brings safety and stability to their position at their institution. But getting tenure will not solve feelings of overwork or a clogged publication pipeline. Anything you are struggling with pre-tenure will follow you through the course of your career if you don't intervene now! In today's episode, I dig into how the mid-career slump happens and what to do about it depending on where you are in your career. The stress and pressure of reaching tenure is overwhelming. It leads to overwork and a constant push to publish. However, working all hours is unsustainable and leads to inevitable burnout and even questioning whether academia is the place for you. So tune in and learn how to avoid (or fix) the mid-year slump! For full show notes visit scholarsvoice.org/podcast/182. 181: Why We're Retiring Our Elevate Mid-Career Program

The Elevate program is retiring! Elevate was designed to help post-tenure academics, but these clients needed help with the same writing and publication issues as pre-tenure professors. Despite the success of this program since its inception in 2019, it has become clear that the skills addressed in Navigate are essential to every career stage. So, to tighten up the mission of our business and better align our coaching programs with my goals, it is necessary to consolidate our offerings. There will be one final Elevate cohort starting October 24, 2023. This last series will also launch a new private podcast and video series to better support writing and publication initiatives. I want to thank everyone who has participated in Elevate in the past, and this is not the end of our legacy or leadership coaching. I look forward to you all joining me in our new programs! 180: The Relationship Between Rest And Writing

Today's episode highlights the relationship between rest and writing. This concept is something I have learned from my coach, and she learned from her coach, and I am thrilled to pass it on to you! Many academics operate on a binge-and-bust writing cycle. They save up their writing tasks to get done over the summer, leading to overwork, stress, and a negative relationship with writing and publications. Binge-writing cycles are unsustainable and eventually lead to resentment. The only way to break this pattern is to balance creation with restoration. So if you are a professor desperately trying to get through a backlog of writing, this episode is for you! Tune in as I discuss ways to foster a better relationship with writing by prioritizing rest. For full show notes visit scholarsvoice.org/podcast/180. 179: The Consequences Of Delaying The Right Decision

Some might say there are no failures, only learning experiences. However, accepting something as a failure is important to growth, development, and establishing a path forward. Today's episode is about the consequences of delaying the right decision. I will talk very personally, specifically about what has happened in my business over the past year and how the consequences of delaying the right decisions cost me emotionally and financially. So today's podcast will get very real because I want to be as transparent as possible on this topic. Then I will share questions you can ask yourself to help you decide if you are delaying making the right decision right now. Finally, I will connect these lessons to the academic journey so they can be helpful to you while navigating a career in academia. Tune in as I raise the curtain on my business, career, and how fear of failure kept me from making necessary decisions. For full show notes visit scholarsvoice.org/podcast/179. 178: The Good Thing That A Lack Of Publications Is Telling You About Your Career

Today is an episode dedicated to appreciating the upside of things you may be harboring stress or disappointment over. Instead of allowing negative thoughts to hold back your career, I encourage you to focus on what you are good at. Tune in to this episode and learn ways to highlight positive things about yourself as a professor and how to retain those positive feelings to help break through feelings of overwhelm and ultimately unclog your publication pipeline. Let's dive into why your lack of publications is a good thing! For full show notes visit scholarsvoice.org/podcast/178.
