180: The Relationship Between Rest And Writing
Today’s episode highlights the relationship between rest and writing. This concept is something I have learned from my coach, and she learned from her coach, and I am thrilled to pass it on to you! Many academics operate on a binge-and-bust writing cycle. They save up their writing tasks to get done over the summer, leading to overwork, stress, and a negative relationship with writing and publications. Binge-writing cycles are unsustainable and eventually lead to resentment. The only way to break this pattern is to balance creation with restoration. So if you are a professor desperately trying to get through a backlog of writing, this episode is for you! Tune in as I discuss ways to foster a better relationship with writing by prioritizing rest. 179: The Consequences Of Delaying The Right Decision
Some might say there are no failures, only learning experiences. However, accepting something as a failure is important to growth, development, and establishing a path forward. Today’s episode is about the consequences of delaying the right decision. I will talk very personally, specifically about what has happened in my business over the past year and how the consequences of delaying the right decisions cost me emotionally and financially. So today’s podcast will get very real because I want to be as transparent as possible on this topic. Then I will share questions you can ask yourself to help you decide if you are delaying making the right decision right now. Finally, I will connect these lessons to the academic journey so they can be helpful to you while navigating a career in academia. Tune in as I raise the curtain on my business, career, and how fear of failure kept me from making necessary decisions. For full show notes visit scholarsvoice.org/podcast/179. 178: The Good Thing That A Lack Of Publications Is Telling You About Your Career
Today is an episode dedicated to appreciating the upside of things you may be harboring stress or disappointment over. Many academics have lots of partially done publications, and their record of published writing doesn’t accurately reflect their impact on academia. Instead of allowing negative thoughts to hold back your career, I encourage you to focus on what you are good at. Tune in to this episode and learn ways to highlight positive things about yourself as a professor and how to retain those positive feelings to help break through feelings of overwhelm and ultimately unclog your publication pipeline.
