161: Operating With the Highest Standards is Exhausting

Are you exhausted? Do you ever feel like you simply cannot do, write, or create one more thing? You aren’t alone! As professors, we operate at 100% nearly all the time in all aspects of life. But here’s the catch: You can’t write from a place of exhaustion.    In episode 161, you’ll hear Cathy talk all about how operating under the very high standards that you have for yourself is exhausting, and how exhausted people have a hard time writing. She is going to talk about those high standards, how they lead to exhaustion, and therefore how exhaustion undermines writing. When you’re exhausted, your publication pipeline is going to suffer, so we’ll unpack how to operate at a healthy level and maintain that publication pipeline without giving up the rest you desperately need. 160: How Your Academic Success Can Clog Your Publication Pipeline

You didn’t become a professor by being lazy! Then why does it feel so hard to publish the amount of your work in line with your expertise? Maybe you just need to work harder? NO! You need to work differently.   In episode 160 of the podcast, I’m talking about the classic “what got you here won’t get you there” problem of successful academics who are trying to clear their publication pipelines. 159: Trust Yourself to Do Differently

Do you feel like you’ve tried everything to write and publish to the level that you know you are capable of? It’s frustrating to be a high achiever and still not be able to figure this out! The reason that your publication pipeline is still clogged is that you are stuck with the “I’ve tried everything” mindset, where there is no room for growth. In this video, I coach you on how to break out of that mindset and trust yourself to be able to change. There is one key difference between shifting from that defeated mindset to one of change and growth, and I’ll walk you through how to implement that key change in this conversation. She talks about some of the changes that the company has gone through in the past few years, some of the ways we’ve shifted and adapted to our diverse and growing clientele, and what we stand for today.  She shares a bit of her personal experience, both as a professor going through the same gauntlet as many of our listeners, and as a coach working to shift mindsets, and talks about how much her personal story has influenced her coaching work. 155: What You're Leaving on The Table When You're Not Publishing

Do you struggle with prioritizing time to write in the midst of your busy days and career? Have you ever considered the things you’re leaving on the table when you’re not publishing? Not the traditional things we might think of missing out on, but some of the more personal things you’re leaving on the table by not prioritizing your publications. In Episode 155 of the podcast, I talk all about what you're leaving on the table when you're not publishing. I’ll share 5 things you’re leaving on the table when you’re not publishing. These aren’t the things we normally think about like not getting a promotion, or losing out on a grant, but they’re things you might not have considered when it comes to the things you’re missing out on when you’re not getting your publications out.  So today, I've got five things that you're leaving on the table when you're not publishing. BONUS: More Does Not Equal More When it Comes to Publishing

Do you ever feel like you have too many projects or publications in play at once? Too many things in the works, and then ultimately nothing actually gets published?   Most academics believe that to publish more things, they have to publish everything. In this Bonus Episode, I talk all about a huge misconception in academic publishing: that more equals more. I’m here to show you a new way of being when it comes to publishing, and how less is actually more in the long run.   When we take a ‘just publish anything and everything’ mentality, we really lose cohesion. When you have your academic mission statement, and everything is in line with that, then your publication pipeline flows much more freely. Publishing off-mission articles, and things that aren't in line with your academic mission are actually going to stop your on-mission articles from coming out. Knowing what is worth your time and focusing on those things really does equal more in your academic career.   Join our Pilot Navigate Program:  We are going to offer Navigate as a 12-week program to test out some changes we are considering making. It will run from February 2023- Mid-May 2023. BONUS: Join Our New 12-Week Navigate Pilot

If you’ve been following along with us, you know that we are currently enrolling for a 12 week pilot version of our core program, which is called Navigate Your Writing Roadmap.   We are looking for women and non binary professors at any career stage who have published at least one article in a peer reviewed journal, and you have too much data for the amount of time that you have to write it up. Or you're sitting on three or more article drafts in various stages of done, one of which is almost (around 50%-80%) done. We also are looking for professors who are looking for an accelerated way to clear their publication pipeline.   We have been looking to update our original Navigate program, so we decided to take that core Navigate content and make it fit into 12 weeks by using the criteria that we want from the original course. Our goal for the Pilot program is for it to be both simple and impactful, the 2 words we are using to guide all of our decisions for our company this year. That means that those participating in this pilot are going to get more attention from more people in the company as we really try to tweak and perfect this program.   We’d love to have you join our team and experience this unique attention and guidance, so check out the links below to submit your application! 154: Making Values-Aligned Decisions

What is that next level thing that's down the road that you're not getting to by staying in old habits that are leading to burnout or old habits that aren't serving you? Episode 154 is a presentation I made at our annual New Year’s Writing Retreat in early January 2023. In this discussion, you're going to hear me very explicitly talk about our company mission, our company values, and how we made program changes aligned with those values.
