Young’s PerspectiveScott Young is a writer and business owner. In 2012, he led his own self-directed education project, where he learned to code in one year. Impressively, he was then able to pass final exams that MIT computer science graduates must pass at the end of their four-year degree programs. Scott Young used open-source computer science lectures available online, along with his own self-organized learning activities and exercises to achieve this. His TEDx talk about his learning approach has been viewed more than half a million times. To further refine his learning methodology, Scott learned four languages in twelve months. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and Montpellier Business School.IntroductionUltralearning is a strategy for aggressive, self-directed learning. Self-directed means you can take back control, rather than wait to pay for expensive tuition and tutors. Aggressive means that instead of spending years at something without getting great, your limited time and effort are always directed towards what works.StoryShot #1: Ultralearners Are Quick LearnersUltralearners are people who can learn and acquire new skills in a short time frame. These people must be aggressive and strategic with their learning approaches. An example of this is Eric Barone. Eric was a theater usher who decided to create his own computer game. He was a recent IT graduate who had to compete with huge companies with massive budgets. That said, Barone refined his mechanics over five years by adopting an aggressive trial and improvement approach. Eventually, Barone released Stardew Valley. The game sold over three million copies in its 2016 release year. This monumental sales rate placed him on Forbes’ 30 under 30 list. So, ultralearning can help you stay competitive within the professional world. StoryShot #2: Develop an Optimal Learning Strategy1. Create a Metalearning Map2. Use the Map to Identify Challenges3. He attributes his systematic way of thinking to his time working as a Vietnam fighter pilot. After working in the military for 11 years, Jeff became a doctor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The University of Colorado is where he first became interested in IT systems development. He would eventually become a biometrics expert, an early innovator in ATM technology, and Vice President of Engineering or CTO at 11 different technology companies. Jeff attributes this success to following the foundations of Scrum. IntroductionScrum was groundbreaking when Jeff Sutherland introduced it as a way to improve human progress. Some describe the publication of Scrum in 2014 as being a pivotal moment in human history. Its name is borrowed from the game of rugby to emphasize the importance of intense teamwork. It is a strategy integrated into most of the world’s top technology companies. We know it works, but this book outlines why it works. The book explores multiple real world scenarios to explain how people struggle to conduct tasks with agility and efficiency. The author claims that Scrum strategies can solve this dilemma. Scrum orientation is found at the roots of many modern achievements. Jeff’s system helped bring the FBI into the 21st century, for example. Scrum has also helped to reduce poverty in the developing world. This book is built upon insights Jeff gained from martial arts, judicial decision-making, advanced aerial combat, and robotics. StoryShot #1: ATMs Were the Inspiration for ScrumSutherland first identified society’s flawed approach to productivity while he was helping to deploy ATMs throughout the US. He believed the traditional method of conducting software development, including the “waterfall” system associated with ATMs, was deficient. Sutherland also detested society’s overuse of Gantt Charts that illustrate the schedule and status of piece parts of a project. He once stumbled across a Japanese paper, published in 1986, titled, “The New New Product Development Game.” This paper was written by Hirotaka Takeuchi and Ikujiro Nonaka, who focused on the importance of cross-functional teams in producing a faster and more flexible working environment. StoryShot #2: The Scrum FundamentalsStoryShot #2: The Scrum FundamentalsStoryShot #3: Sprint Cycles Are Crucial For Improving EfficiencyTHIS CONTENT WAS FIRST PUBLISHED ON 5/22/2021.Disclaimer: This is an unofficial summary and analysis. She received her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Brown is a professor at the University of Houston and holds the Huffington Foundation-BrenĂŠ Brown Endowed Chair. Brown’s TED Talks have been viewed over 40 million times, and Time magazine has named her one of the world’s most influential thinkers.IntroductionDaring Greatly is a book by the researcher and thought leader BrenĂŠ Brown. It offers a powerful new vision to provide readers with a powerful new concept. It encourages you to embrace vulnerability and imperfection greatly and live wholeheartedly. Vulnerability and shame are at the heart of Brown’s research. We have to embrace vulnerability. In doing so, we should be happier. What’s more, you should be able to forge great relationships with yourself and others. Unfortunately, many people believe vulnerability is a sign of weakness and failure. They see shame as a direct consequence of vulnerability. Moving past this myth makes it easier for us to try new things. This could lead to new possibilities. Here are the ten key takeaways from Daring Greatly by BrenĂŠ Brown.StoryShot #1: Seek a Wholehearted Life, Filled with Courage, Engagement, and Purpose.Wholeheartedness is a feeling of worth, even when you are essentially flawed. It means you focus your energy and attention on good qualities. Focus on what’s going right, instead of shortcomings. In reality, many people end up with some notion regarding loving themselves. There’s a lot in pop culture, including songs, all meant to encourage people to be easier on themselves. Still, we are more predisposed to taking a hard stance on ourselves.Daring Greatly shows that at the tenet of wholeheartedness are five ideals: All people need love and a sense of belonging. The feeling of not being worthy is central to the love we show ourselves. We build a sense of worthiness over time. How we perceive and react to our experiences informs it. We all want to live a life of courage, compassion, and connection at the core of our beings. And finally, as a wholehearted individual, use vulnerability as a catalyst. It should help you achieve courage, compassion, and connection.StoryShot #2: Vulnerability is Central to Meaningful Existence.StoryShot #3: Vulnerability Requires That You Recognize and Appreciate Scarcity.Get the full text, PDF, infographic and animated book summary on our free app: https://www.getstoryshots.com Learn more about your ad choices. She received a BBA in finance and an MBA from the University of Texas in 1978 and 1980. Since 2008, Schroeder has worked as a columnist for Bloomberg News.  Synopsis The Snowball is a biography of one of the most respected men within the financial world. Warren Buffett has been financially successful for over 70 years but is yet to write a memoir. This book is the first book to have unprecedented access to Buffett’s life stories and lessons. The outcome is a book that provides financial advice and shows how finance can give people life advice.  StoryShot #1: Warren Buffett Benefited From a Simple Life Image Buffett benefited from the media being intrigued by his simple life. His public image was that of a simple man who seemed genuine and trustworthy. The reality was quite different, though. Buffett has always lived a complicated life. The reason he was seen as genuine was that he used simple words and spoke passionately. He also had a loyal group of friends that made him seem more like your average man.  The reality is that Buffett was also a highly effective businessman. This meant he couldn’t be friends with everyone and earned a business reputation as being tough and hard-nosed. This ability to appeal to the media while also being financially successful made him one of the most reported businesspeople. That said, Buffett did enjoy prioritizing the simple things in life. He would often be invited to the Sun Valley Conference, a conference for the economic elite. Many got carried away in the gossip of noticing who had been disinvited since the last year’s conference. Buffett was more interested in the beauty of the Sun Valley. He saw it as a perfect family vacation spot. He used this time to reunite with his whole family during one of the family’s rare times.   StoryShot #2: Buffett’s Inner Confidence Helped Him Succeed StoryShot #3: Buffett Followed in His Family’s FootstepsStoryShot #4: The Lack of Warmth from Buffett’s Parents Pushed Him Toward NumbersStoryShot #5: Buffett Learned How to Overcome Adversity From a Young Age  This episode was first published in July 2021. The average person spends one-third or nearly 230,000 hours sleeping in their lifetime. That can make getting in your 8 hours feel like a massive waste of time. Many of us don't know that getting enough rest is critical to optimizing the time we aren't sleeping. Sleeping enough and sleeping well are essential for being productive during daylight hours. Our brains need a compound called glucose to function optimally. He is the host of CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS and writes a weekly column for The Washington Post. He has been a columnist for Newsweek, editor of Newsweek International, and an editor at large of Time. He won the India Abroad person of the year in 2008, and he holds honorary degrees from multiple universities, including the University of Miami, Johns Hopkins University, and more. IntroductionTen Lessons For a Post-Pandemic World foresees the nature of a post-pandemic world. It considers the political, social, technological, and economic consequences that may take years to unfold. In his ten “lessons,” Fareed Zakaria invites us to think about how we are truly social animals with community and cooperation embedded in our nature. He also concludes by considering the degree to which nothing is written, and the future is truly in our own hands.StoryShot #1: The First Lesson is to Buckle UpTechnology has advanced considerably over the last few decades. However, instead of stopping and thinking about how we can keep ourselves safe, we have just continued to expand. Zakaria describes this as humans having built the fastest sports car ever imaginable. However, we are driving it into the unknown with no seatbelts on. We haven’t equipped any airbags, and we haven’t purchased any insurance. Driving this sports car makes us feel innovative, modern, and powerful, but we do experience crashes along the way. Crucially, these crashes are getting worse with time.Despite these crashes, we still haven’t stopped to consider the safety precautions we require. Instead, we simply pull the vehicle over, tune-up the suspension, and fix the engine. We continue to make our cars faster and faster, and yet we allow ourselves to be left in more profound danger. Zakaria believes the pandemic is an example of a massive crash. We should not continue our unsustainable expansion after the pandemic. Instead, we should use this as an opportunity to contemplate the safety precautions we need to implement. We need to buckle up.“Outbreaks are inevitable but pandemics are optional.”– LARRY BRILLIANT, QUOTED BY FAREED ZAKARIAStoryShot #2: The Second Lesson is to Improve the Quality of GovernmentStoryShot #3: The Third Lesson is That Markets Do Not Dictate Happiness Learn more about your ad choices.
