#22: The Lunatic Farmer: A Conversation with Joel Salatin

In my journey to combat diseases like cancer, I have delved into extensive research, read numerous books, and listened to countless podcasts since 2019—the year I was confronted with the devastating news of my child's cancer diagnosis.   My conclusions led me to believe in an intricate web of factors at play, but the prevailing thread tying everything together is undeniably food, and at its core, agriculture. ### Whether you’re a farmer, an entrepreneur, or just someone interested in learning more about regenerative food systems, you won’t want to miss out on our premium video and support content. Premium subscribers also receive exclusive access to members-only pop-up events and discounted rates on small business consultations and coaching calls. Monthly memberships are only $15 a month, and you can sign up at https://sowingprosperityinstitute.mykajabi.com/ ### Agriculture stands as the undeniable foundation of any society. Doubt this claim? I recommend diving into the compelling book "Collapse" by Jared Diamond. https://amzn.to/3QOcsUF    I'm inclined to assert that, "He who controls the food controls the world."   But when we explore the basics of food production, the complexities emerge—impacting health, community, economy, and our overarching theme of prosperity.   Joel Salatin is someone I deeply admire. As an author, entrepreneur, teacher, and thought leader, he brings hands-on knowledge to the multifaceted realm of food production.   Should our focus be on achieving ruthless efficiency to produce the most affordable food? Or should we pivot to a model where monetary gains aren't the main metric, and environmental betterment takes center stage?   For those attuned to global events, Sri Lanka's current crisis serves as a stark example. Despite its intricate history since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1948, the nation's recent bid to transition to full organic farming is noteworthy. They made a swift move to outlaw industrial agriculture and halted all fertilizer imports.   While I staunchly advocate for harmonizing practices with nature, it underscores why our conversation with Joel is paramount.   He provides a wealth of insights crucial to the establishment of a localized regenerative food system. Here is his book.  https://amzn.to/45koVnm

#21: Less is More: Regenerative Farming Economics with Weston Walker

Sowing Prosperity dives into the intricate world of farming, exploring stories of tenacity, resilience, and the courage to reimagine agricultural practices. In a recent enlightening episode, Missouri farmer Weston Walker shared insights into the practicalities of farming and the growing influence of regenerative agriculture, particularly in cattle genetics.   Weston Walker: Breeding Excellence   Representing the 8th generation of Ozarkian livestock producers, Weston Walker stands tall as the force behind the Walker Cattle Company (WCC). WCC's program specializes in breeding cattle that adapt flawlessly to their environment. This includes resilience to temperature extremes, high humidity, and endophyte-infected fescue, conditions typical in many parts of the U.S.  Through a strict selection process and a commitment to low inputs, Walker ensures the production of cattle breeds that excel nationwide. This dedication to excellence is evident in the Red Angus & Heat-Adapted Composites that the WCC program proudly produces.   The Pharo Cattle Company Connection   Key to the interview was understanding the significant role of Pharo Cattle Company in the cattle breeding industry. Founded by Kit Pharo, a former bull rider turned visionary farmer, the company started with a simple mission: Wean bigger calves and thrive in ranching. However, it wasn't long before Kit discovered the inefficiencies tied to increasing weaning weights, leading to a revolutionary mindset shift.   Kit's principles for efficient and profitable farming  Rotational Grazing System: A technique that allows grass time to rejuvenate and grow throughout the season. Calving "in sync" with Nature: Aligning cows' nutritional needs with the peak productivity periods of pastures.   Breeding Efficient Cattle: Producing metabolically efficient and highly fertile cattle that can sustain themselves predominantly on ranch-produced nutrition.   Despite skepticism and backlash from the mainstream beef industry, Pharo Cattle Company stood firm in its beliefs. Today, their philosophies have stood the test of time and paved the way for others to follow.   However, the journey wasn't challenging. Finding the right seed stock with the necessary genetics proved an uphill task, pushing Kit to enter the seed stock business himself. This ambitious move led to the rapid growth of the Pharo Cattle Company. Today, they sell over 900 bulls annually and boast more than 26,000 subscribers to their regular publications.   Moreover, the company isn't just a solitary ranch but a vast network. With cooperative herds spanning 12 states, the Pharo Cattle Company is a testament to how sustainable practices can be both ecologically responsible and profitable across diverse environments.   Weston Walker's collaboration with giants like the Pharo Cattle Company paints a vivid picture of the future of regenerative agriculture. By optimizing cattle genetics for specific regions and incorporating sustainable practices, farmers can reap both ecological and economic benefits. It's a lesson in how, sometimes, less truly is more in farming.   Visit and sign up for the Sowing Prosperity Institute here: https://sowingprosperity.com

#20 Importance of Resistance Training and X3 with Daniel Magyar

Resistance training is an absolute necessity for anyone wanted to improve their life. It’s beneficial in overcoming chronic diseases, especially metabolic ones, including cancer and diabetes. I don’t claim to be a fitness expert. But I have a unique experience with my own journey and a significant focus on health regarding cancer. I lost over 80 lbs from my heaviest. I was working a high-stress job as an EMT with minimal sleep, eating the standard American diet of fast food and energy drinks. I was diagnosed with low testosterone in my early 20s. I was very unhealthy for a considerable stretch, but life got my attention, and I started working out—more for my mental health than my physical. I cleaned up my diet with what I thought was optimal nutrition and got in good shape. I felt good. Little did I know 2019 would be a heck of a year. My third baby was on the way, I would have a severe burn, and then my life stopped. My oldest child was diagnosed with stage four Wilms. That’s stage four cancer of my five-year-old, entirely out of now where. Had I been in the condition I was just six months earlier I don’t think I could have made it. I wouldn’t have been what my son and family needed. That’s my point of sharing this. Being healthy is one of the best gifts we can give to our loved ones. It provides the most of ourselves. Being healthy offers the opportunity to do more. To serve our passions and honestly live the best life. "A healthy man wants a thousand things, a sick man only wants one." - Confucius. Upon diving into how to do everything I could to save my son through lifestyle, nutrition, supplementation, and biohacking modalities, I found the importance of resistance training. The most important tool I have encountered the X3 system and inventor Dr. John Jaquish through Dave Asprey’s podcast. It has been a blessing. My senior year football season, I dislocated a shoulder and separated the other. What I love about the X3 is that it doesn’t hurt my joints as I experience with free weights or even cables. But maybe the best thing is the results are incredible and in such a short dose that it’s hard to believe. I wanted to interview Daniel Magyar, Dr. Jaquish's recommendation as a trainer, in his X3 support Facebook group. It did not disappoint. He answers who should use X3 and what kind of diet he does and recommends for his thousands of personal training clients. #19: Greenwashing: What is it? | Gabe Brown

I’ve interviewed many people over the years who are very accomplished. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt as comfortable and connected to Gabe Brown. Gabe is the author of, Dirt to Soil, the top regenerative agriculture book, and is now a consultant and educator on top of still running his North Dakota farm. Understanding Ag is Gabe and a former guest on the podcast Dr. Allen Williams. The newest endeavor is a certification called Regenify. This process and entity will guarantee that products and farms carrying the designation are the real deal. Greenwashing is a term we all need to be aware of, especially if we care about supporting companies being regenerative. “Greenwashing is where a company uses advertising and public messaging to try to appear to be environmentally sustainable and green – greener than it is. It’s also a technique certain companies use to distract consumers from the fact that their business model and activities do a lot of harm and damage.” Will Harris received flak and repercussions from Wholefoods as he described greenwashing on the Joe Rogan podcast. It’s well worth watching. What Gabe and Allan are doing with Regenify is much needed. While I want it everywhere, I selfishly wish for Arkansas to engage and be a leading region for prosperity. We, as a state, can be a leader. #18: The 50% Rule: Diet & Nutrition with Sally Fallon Morell

One of the most confusing and polarizing topics is “diet.” What we are supposed to eat has as many different extreme views as politics and religion. I’ve been on a mission to understand from a viewpoint of simple cause and effect, trying to overcome the prejudice and indoctrination of standard societal norms. My agenda is solely focused on feeding my children the best possible diet to succeed. What will make them healthy, strong and successful? My drive comes from spending so much time in pediatric oncology with my son. From seeing the ravages of chronic disease working in an ambulance. I’m after solutions that help and work, without unquestioned dogma. Sally Fallon Morell, the best-selling author of "Nourishing Traditions," is a key figure in sharing the work of Weston A. Price. Who is one of the most important health experts in history. Dr. Price was more than just a dentist. Starting in the 1930s, he traveled the world, not to fix teeth but to learn about the eating habits of different groups of people. What he found can teach us a lot about how to stay healthy today. Born in Canada in 1870, Price led research at a major dental organization now called the American Dental Association. He was interested in how food, dental health, and health are all connected. Because of this, he wrote "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration." This book shares his journey around the world, exploring what people eat and how it affects their health. Dr. Price went to many places, from the mountains in Switzerland to Eskimo communities in Northern Canada, tribal groups in Africa, native tribes in North America, and more. Even though these groups were very different, they all had one thing in common: vigours health and strong teeth. Dr. Price noticed that a big reason for this was their food, which was full of good stuff like seafood, dairy, meat, veggies, and grains. But Dr. Price also saw something troubling. When these groups started eating more Western-style foods like processed grains, sugar, and canned goods, their health got worse quickly. This is an essential lesson for everyone who cares about our family's health. Dr. Price's research shows how important it is to eat foods that are full of nutrients. This is often forgotten because modern food is so easy and plentiful. Dr. Price's significant research has influenced many people who care about nutrition. It has even led to groups like the Weston A. Price Foundation, which encourages people to eat diets full of nutrients. Sally Fallon Morell started and is the president of the foundation. She wants to help people learn about and take control of their health. Morell has also done a lot of work in this area, including her book "Nourishing Diets." This book goes into great detail about how traditional people lived and what they ate. Morell's research is beneficial for anyone who wants to use old wisdom to stay healthy today. We invite you to listen to our podcast interview with Sally to learn more. In our candid conversation, she shares her wisdom on applying these traditional ways of nurturing health in the modern world. Her insights and practical advice can serve as a valuable guide in your journey toward optimal health. ### Logan Duvall, an operator of Me & McGee Market and founder of Sowing Prosperity, is transforming his community through health and sustainability.
