37: Women's Self Defense with David Heineman of Stay Safe Martial Arts

In Episode 37, Sofia interviews David Heineman of Stay Safe Martial Arts. David has over 25 years of Martial Arts experience.  He started at an early age with Tae Kwon Do, where he reached the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt.  David also holds a black belt in Combat Hapkido, and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu.Though Tae Kwon Do was his main focus growing up, he was never satisfied learning just one system.  Once David left for college, he began training in Boxing.  Seeing how much striking had to offer, he added Muay Thai to his resume through his training with Richard Abraham of Maximus Muay Thai.  David did not stop here as he was soon exposed to the world of grappling through Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu.  David actively trains and competes in Jiu Jitsu under Mike Cimm, while still training striking as much as he can.  In addition to these sport based disciplines, David has also worked with some of the most respected instructors in Krav Maga (Aaron Jannetti & Ryan Hoover).  The idea behind all of this training is so that he can bridge the gap between sport and street in order to create effective self defense for any violent encounter.David loves teaching self defense to anyone, but his passion is working with women in order to make them tough targets.  Throughout college, David taught countless women's self defense courses.  After seeing just how many female college students had been a victim of sexual violence, he knew he needed to do more to help prevent this.  Once graduated, he spent months traveling the country working with sororities and women's groups across numerous college campuses.  David's goal is to be the top instructor in Illinois for women's self defense. When he is not teaching, he is training.  When he is not training, he is studying and constantly looking for ways to improve. If you are interested in exclusive content, become a Patreon via the linktree.Thank you to Ciguera Gear for sponsoring this episode.
