From Stay at Home Mom of 9 to Buying a Foreclosed Resort with Melanie McCallen

Is it possible that an investor’s first real estate syndication would be a foreclosed winery – a winery that produced the same Champaign that JFK used at his inaugural ball in 1961? The answer is YES and on today’s episode with Melanie McCallen, we chat about her path to buying a foreclosed winery and resort in New Jersey called Renault Winery Resort & Golf. We cover a lot with this mom of 9 from why she loves hospitality, why syndications are so powerful, the #1 strategy to building relationships with investors, failing forward and how her skills as a mom prepared her for this life-changing venture. Melanie McCallen is a partner in both Vivamée Hospitality and Accountable Equity, where she manages various designers and architects, as well as serves investors directly. She and her husband Josh are passionate about taking on hospitality projects together. Being the oldest of 10 and now a mother of 9, Melanie believes her family is the reason genuine hospitality comes naturally to her. “I think when we explain that to investors, it touches them as well. Your passion comes through when it’s authentic.” Before starting a family, Melanie earned her Bachelors in Education from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. She has since had opportunities to live in various cities around the globe, including Austria, where her first child went to kindergarten. On today’s episode, we discuss a ton with Melanie, including: Why her and husband love hospitality Foreclosed resort real estate #1 Strategy to build relationships with prospective investors How she transferred her skills as a “stay at home” mom to buying this resort Simply way to motivate children into action Failing forward and importance of investing in your marriage   Contact Information Renault Winery Resort & Golf (located in New Jersey) - https://www.renaultwinery.com/ Melanie’s company website – https://www.accountableequity.com/   Invitation to Join Melanie and her team at their next Learn & Grow Event at Renault Winery & Resort You can’t miss this event! How She Uses a “Velvet Hammer” to Renovate and Flip Homes with Angela Florie

Let’s face it. The construction world is still male-dominated. In order to be successful in flipping and renovating homes as a woman, you need to have grace but also have the ability to be the hammer as well. On today’s episode, we chat with Angela Florie from Long Island, New York. She talks about her journey from moving from Colombia to NYC to pursue her dreams in design. After years in advertising, she realized something was missing and after soul searching, she realized real estate is where she wanted to be. We discuss money saving lessons she wished she knew on her first fix and flip project, why “numbers are queen,” why she loves to find properties with problems, and how she navigates a male dominated world with the use of a “velvet hammer.” Angela Florie is originally from Bogota, Colombia. She moved to NYC to pursue her Masters at Parsons School of Design (the best design school in the world!). Over the next 10 years, she got promoted a few times, changed agencies a couple of times and traveled the country meeting clients, but in the back of her head she knew something was missing. After some soul searching, she decided to launch her own company in June of 2015 focused on renovating and flipping homes in one of the most expensive markets in the country - New York. Her company, Grand Central Real Estate, LLC has grown since 2015 and not only renovates their own projects, but is also a licensed General Contractor helping homeowners renovate their homes. On today’s episode, we discuss a ton with Angela, including: Value of coaching Key lessons from 1st Flip and why “Numbers are Queen” What she wished she had done on her first flip Most important way to STAY ahead of schedule Finding properties who have problems How she navigated the construction world as a “velvet hammer” Most important way to THRIVE when working together with your spouse   Reach out to Angela: Website: grandcentralrealestate.com Social Media: Instagram and Facebook - Angela Florie Books/Resources: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill InvestHER Community Join us on our mission to support and empower as many women as we can to live a financially free and balanced life. How This Millennial Created a Thriving Real Estate Side Hustle Through House Hacking with Kim Gillock

It can be very overwhelming to begin investing in real estate when working a full-time job and juggling so many responsibilities. On today’s episode, we chat with Kim Gillock a buy and hold investor from Denver, CO. She got her start in “house hacking” and has never looked back. Kim Gillock is a buy-and-hold real estate investor residing in Denver, CO.  Her full-time career is as an Emergency Dept PA (Physician Assistant) since 2008.  A few years after buying her primary residence and seeing the benefit of "house hacking," she became curious about real estate as a potential investment vehicle and tried her hand at buy & hold investing (2013).  She currently holds and actively manages 3 LTR's and one medium-term rental, still "house hacks" at home and also manages her families vacation rental in Colorado and works her full-time job (every true millennial has to have a side hustle, right?).  Despite all the juggling, she just really finds RE investing SO. Fun. In her free time, she loves playing tennis, skiing, traveling and being with friends and family (preferably while doing one of the aforementioned and/or with wine).  She resides in Denver, CO. On today’s episode, we discuss a ton with Kim, including: House hacking with furnished month to month Why knowing your target “customer” is critical The value and benefits of having a full-time job The importance of the “why” behind real estate investing How to powerfully transition to a new area of real estate investing Scaling to multifamily and what you should be considering Reach out to Kim: Reach out to Kim: BiggerPockets – Kimberly Gillock Instagram – Kimmyg783 Books/Resources: Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav Raising Private Capital by Matt Faircloth Cozy.co – online applications, rental support Mint.com – way to organize all of your finances Stessa: Smarter Income & Expense Tracking for Property Owners On-line vision board  **** If interested in being ADDED to our upcoming free Partnership Webinar, email info@therealestateinvesther.comInvestHER Community Join us on our mission to support and empower as many women as we can to live a financially free and balanced life.
