Ryan O’Connell is the founder of How To ADU and an advocate for more housing in California. He moved to Napa, California in 2012 to start nakedwines.com which is now one of the twenty largest wineries in the United States. In traveling all over California’s beautiful wine regions, Ryan had too many occasions to meet vineyard workers, winery teams, and hospitality staff that cannot afford to live in the regions where they work. While grateful for the success and growth of California’s wine country, Ryan also saw a fundamental problem pushing people out of their communities or driving them to spend far more than a third of their income on housing. Revisiting his political science background, where he holds a B.A. from Tulane University), Ryan set out to explain Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to California homeowners. Jason and Clint Spearow are two of our Flight School Graduates who are doing very well with their land investing business. They are the owner of Spearow Land, a family-owned and operated company located in Sugar Land, Texas. Growing up on a ranch, Jason and Clint have always had a passion for land. Jason began his land investing journey after stumbling across one of Mark’s podcast videos where he purchased the Land Investing Tool Kit. He later invited Clint to attend one of the Land Geek Bootcamps that was held in Las Vegas. There, they acquired sufficient knowledge about land investing, and soon after, they were both enrolled in Flight School. With knowledge of how valuable land investing can be, Jason and Clint started selling lands in 2016. Since then, they have sold approximately 120 properties valuing over 3.2 million dollars. But then, he also talks a lot about faith, and I think the biggest takeaway from everything is, without faith you can't get anything done in life. What’s cool is they have a site of the day, like a fun fact, thought of the day, a book of the month. Joe: The book that I used as an entrepreneur, that helped me through all sorts of issues was Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. The big lesson in that is writing down your goals and reviewing those goals on a regular basis. That’s my secret that’s not a secret to success in entrepreneurship: I write down my goals, I have 5 or 6 main goals for every year that I look at and review them every day. And when you review them in the morning, you do different things based on those goals. This new book, I was surprised because I had low expectations on this book, it’s Greenlights by Mathew McConaughey. I really thought it’s not a good book, but I read it, he wrote down his goals on a regular basis and review them. Great lessons and I learned a lot about myself reading that book.
