#52 Ketosis and Exercise Performance (SCIENCE EXPLAINED)

Since the 1960s it was thought that a high carbohydrate diet maintained physical performance and muscle glycogen by preventing muscle glycogen depletion induced fatigue. I.E. You need carbs before the workout to give yourself energy, during the workout to not bonk, after the workout to recover from the exertion, and at any other time of the day as well because otherwise you’ll hit the wall and go into starvation mode. However, this can be misinterpreted and taken out of context. Can you train hard on the ketogenic diet? How does ketosis affect performance? Will my muscles dissolve into a big chunk of wobbly jello if I don’t eat carbs after working out? This and many more in this episode of the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast.I'm your host Siim Land and we're going to delve into the science of ketogenic exercise performance. #48 Eating an ALL MEAT Carnivore Diet with Amber O'Hearn

Fruit and vegetables are the healthiest foods there are and eggs and meat give you heart disease...That's what you've probably heard from nutritionists, medical doctors, or vegan activists. Of course, plant-based foods are incredibly nourishing and rejuvenating... However, one man's food is another man's poison, and some people's metabolism tends to suffer from consuming certain vegetables or other ingredients. Recently, there's been a rise in popularity of the carnivore diet. Yes, a diet that is based on eating only animal products like meat, bacon, fish, eggs, cheese, liver, insects, maybe?  That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast with Siim Land. #47 Natural Bodybuilder Keto Savage on Winning Contest Prep and Building Muscle on the Ketogenic Diet

How little protein can you eat and build muscle? That's not what you hear very often in the protein-obsessed fitness conversations... You need to take amino acids before a workout, a whey protein post-workout, eat only egg whites and get at least 3x grams of protein per pound of body weight, otherwise, you'll become catabolic and lose your gains... Welcome to the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast I'm your host Siim Land and let me introduce you to Robert Orion Sikes - the Keto Savage - who does natural bodybuilding and during contest prep eats about 65 grams of protein a day. Might sound bizarre for anyone who's into lifting weights but Robert's been seeing incredible results in the field of performance optimization with the ketogenic diet. Robert runs the Keto Savage Podcast, has a YouTube channel and a coaching business about keto bodybuilding. #46 Improving Gut Health, Animals VS Plant Foods, and the Microbiome with Dr Natasha Campbell Mcbride

Did you know that 90% of your body is made of non-human bacterial life-forms? The microbiome, microbe species, the mitochondria, and who knows what else... YES! You're made of only 10% human cells! There is no "just you".You're a massive superorganism - a vessel for an abundance of life and thriving. Most of the health disorders have to do with an imbalance in the microbiome and the digestive system."All disease begins in the gut", said Hippocrates, and modern research supports that claim. That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm your host Siim Land and our guest is Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride. She's a medical doctor with 2 degrees: Master of Medical Sciences in Neurology and Master of Medical Sciences in Human Nutrition.  Dr. Campbell-McBride is known for developing the concept of GAPS (Gut And Psychology Syndrome), which describes the symptoms of common mental diseases caused by an improper digestive system.     Topics Discussed:- What is gut and psychology syndrome? 01:50- What causes gut and psychology syndrome and autism? 05:50- What things damage your gut in modern society 14:05- Why gluten isn't the issue - it's the gut 20:40- What is the GAPS diet 26:30- What is the human digestive tract designed to digest 38:30- Plant-based diets and gut health 49:45- Detox symptoms 01:00:00    And much more... #45 Can High Cholesterol on Keto Be Healthy with Dave Feldman

"I ate over 450 grams of fat and I watched my cholesterol levels DROP!"... Not something you'd expect to hear someone say, not to mention actually happen in a healthy body. For decades we've been told that saturated fat and cholesterol are dangerous for you, causing heart disease, clogging the arteries, and making you diabetic. However, new research over the past few years has disputed this notion as we gradually improve our understanding of cholesterol. In fact, people with higher levels of cholesterol have a lower risk of heart disease, whereas people with lower cholesterol have increased mortality rates. How crazy is that? People who go on a low carb high fat diet tend to see an increase in cholesterol as well, in both the LDL (the "bad") and HDL (the "good"). However, their triglyceride levels tend to drop, which prevents them from becoming diseased.  That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast with Siim Land. Our guest is Dave Feldman who's an engineer, a citizen scientist, and a low carb advocate. His research on cholesterol in ketogenic diets has revealed a lot of insight into the functioning of this essential nutrient that even professional medical practitioners are beginning to implement.  Topics Discussed: What is the Role of Cholesterol - 04:18 Does Cholesterol Clog Your Arteries - 08:17 Difference Between LDL and HDL Cholesterol - 11:50 What Is Remnant Cholesterol - 15:02 Why Your Cholesterol Can Go Up on a Ketogenic Diet - 20:00 What is the Feldman Protocol - 25:08 Are You a Lean Mass Hyper Responder - 46:20 Why Doctors Are Afraid of Cholesterol Still - 57:00   And much more...
