Of course, there are many women for whom the man doing more chores has zero effect on sexual frequency. But there's also many women for whom it works! Here's how to differentiate!

While I've discussed midlife crises in general and how women change in their 40's and in menopause, I haven't directly discussed how midlife crises look in women. Often, it looks like marital dissatisfaction, which means this episode is important for men to listen to as well!

When Does Frequency Of Sex Change From A Quantitative Problem To A Qualitative One?

I see two inflection points with sexual frequency that change it from a quantitative issue to a qualitative one. The first is when frequency drops below what would be necessary for partners to not feel the need to masturbate. The second is when frequency drops below once every two weeks, at which point people start seeing the clinical definition of "sexless marriage" in the distance and when they tend to feel very disconnected. In this episode, I discuss these points and others, and what to do when you see your relationship heading down this path.

A pernicious form of crazy making that I see in sexless marriages is that the sex denying partner is the victim rather than the one who is being denied the sex! How did this fairy story take hold and what personality dynamics are evident in the denier and the denied in this scenario? Also: how did the book The Women's Room, a feminist classic published in 1977, take the exactly opposite view than is currently espoused, where the woman being denied sex was the victim, and which one makes more sense to me as a marriage therapist?

If you listened to my podcast about how TV shows for teens used to show that married adults have sex, you will love this line I just heard upon rewatching the first episode of Dawson's Creek: "Moms have great sex lives." Doesn't that seem insane given where we are at 20+ years later? Part of being an adult used to be having sex and having fun in general, and now the norm seems to be to view yourself as a sacrificial lamb slaughtered on the pyre of your children's happiness. What has changed, why, and how can you counteract it?

Many people drink "to relax" or "to have fun" but don't recognize how much alcohol impacts their mental and emotional health. If you're always a little bit drunk or a little bit hungover, there's a tremendous negative effect on your clarity of mind, ability to connect and communicate with your partner, and alcohol is a depressant overall. Listen to this episode if you think that alcohol doesn't really impact your relationship, sex life, job, mood, or more.
