Taking Accountability for the Roles we Play in Conflict
TW: Spanking as child abuse.
They knew immediately that they could have done better. Episode 55 is a play-by-play of how a momentary problem turned into so much more. Watch or listen to hear how Lauren and Trey each take accountability for the individual roles they played in this brief conflict.
Trey shares how a resiliency check-in led, by Lauren speaking the words, “Jelly-Bear,” would have helped to dismantle the entire misunderstanding BEFORE it happened. They each expound on what this soft word means to them and how it would have helped them coregulate and love one another more fully.
Lauren shares an intimate memory of abuse from when she was 13-years-old; and how by demanding blind obedience, she was robbed of opportunities to practice how to disagree and argue from a place of respectful agency. She asks Trey if they can renegotiate this traumatic memory through play this week and he enthusiastically agrees.
They both discuss how, at times, forging new neural pathways can feel like tremendous work and the temptation to throw in the towel can be HUGE, but they end this episode encouraged by the ways they each are growing THROUGH these challenging opportunities.

Sexual Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs in Partnership
Episode 54 is a follow-up to Episode 53! Make sure you listen to that HERE. Trey and Lauren dive right into the concept of anxiety as a form of sexual arousal. This is directly connected to Jack Morin’s Erotic Equation: ATTRACTION + OBSTACLE = EXCITEMENT.
Lauren talks about how it turns her on to have sex when other people are somewhere in the house. Trey surprises her by sharing that the spicy sexual encounters they have in public spaces are because SHE is aroused by the sneakiness, NOT because it is enticing to him. This shocks her and is precisely why we should have these conversations with our partners!
Trey explores the sexual benefits of creating a life that allows him the freedom and space to be turned on. He expounds on why he has eliminated porn this week to allow more space for sexual arousal. Lauren smiles, and at minute 9:58 says her favorite phrase, “We turn ourselves on.” Our desire for our sexual partners has so little to do with them and so much to do with us!
Trey talks about protecting Lauren’s space to come into her sexual body and Lauren segways into the concept of desirability. She shares that it’s important to cultivate a life that makes us FEEL DESIRABLE - even our friendships and the types of fun we have outside of the home affect the sex we have. She shares that she gets really turned on thinking about Trey’s choice to begin therapy and the meditation practices he makes time for daily.
At minute 16:15 they unpack their game changing practice of Nightly Check-Ins that includes just two simple questions. “Any ouches today? What brought you joy today?” This modality has given them so many new tools! Lauren was never given permission to have opinions of her own, and this tool of sharing an “ouch” has given her a new and playful tool to express her own voice and thoughts. Trey wants her to share her opinions and this gives her a way to do so! No more appealing here. Watch at minute 24:00 as Trey directly addresses partners whose first instinct is to say things like, “stop being ridiculous.” He questions traditional households where men are in charge simply because of their gender.
They close out Episode 54 discussing the 2023 “Peace on Earth” Christmas Card trend. Lauren shares why she feels this joke is harmful and disgusting. Trey shares how jokes like this don’t even deserve our time or opinions.

Sexual Arousal in Partnership
Happy Holidays! Lauren and Trey kick off this episode with a long conversation about arousal and erections! Lauren gives a quick anatomy lesson - sharing what IS and is NOT normal for a penis in a sexual encounter! Then they accidentally stumble into a hilarious discussion about porn, film sets, and fluffers. When Trey expresses doubts that fluffers even exist, Lauren gets SO embarrassed. It’s worth the watch for sure.
After normalizing different levels of “hardness” and the various things that can lead to lack of an erection, Lauren and Trey discuss the role of attraction and the wisdom of our bodies that we may sometimes be ignoring, just to get laid.
Trey tells of a few sexual encounters where an erection was hard to maintain, but as he likes to say, "sex is like pizza, even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good."
They discuss the critical importance of hygiene in sexual encounters and reveal Lauren’s lack of love for showering! Trey asks her if there’s anything on his body that can repel her, and Lauren admits that a scratchy 5-o’clock shadow or bad breath can be a big turn off.
Trey shares that if his feelings have been hurt, his penis is not going up, after Lauren asks him if there’s anything she’s ever done to turn him off emotionally. They then explain that they do not have a transactional sexual relationship in which either of them is required to “drop trou.” Lauren rounds out the topic sharing that criticism is a major turn-off for her, because it makes her question her own comfort in her own skin.
After spending the majority of the podcast discussing arousal of the penis, Lauren spends a few minutes describing what a lack of arousal can feel like in the vulva and in the body of the vulva owner. She describes the most recent time she experienced dry mouth while in a sexual relationship she should have left.
They close out this episode talking the smallest bit about vaginismus and dyspareunia, but that conversation will be continued next week!

Building Bridges and Growing our Support Team
On Episode 52 Lauren and Trey discuss the ways in which they are building bridges, growing their support teams, and allowing themselves to be witnessed.
They ponder why people raised male tend to avoid therapeutic interventions and Lauren challenges Trey on the level of success he feels like he has attained. Do the wounds of our parents affect the way we interact with our lovers? Trey will be figuring that out soon!
Lauren dissects the concept of “felt safety” and how as she and Trey grow closer they have the potential to wound one another more and more deeply. Recently, she has seen first hand how much her “ugly” triggers Trey’s childhood coping mechanisms.
At minute 19:20 Lauren shares an analogy about how she feels she can see the brand new bridge they are building to one another while they traverse a temporary bridge they've built over these past few weeks.
You will not want to miss the vasectomy update at minute 23:30! Trey tells the tale of bringing a "fresh" semen sample to the urologist and the hilarity that unfolded!
They close out this episode with a conversation about agency of choice and the power of celebrating the little wins every day. By inviting others into their lives to speak loving truth these two are slowly building a stronger bridge back to one another.
