Scared Stiff: When sexual initiation goes wrong!
Episode 9 begins with a story of a sexual encounter gone terribly WRONG! What started as a sexy tryst quickly turned to terror! Trey and Lauren will have you cackling or groaning as you recall similar encounters of your own. WARNING: this episode uses anatomical terms and describes sexual positions.
Have you ever have a major stumble midway through a sexual escapade? Have you ever had difficulty initiating a lover's tryst? Then Episode 9 is for you! Without giving away the story, Trey shares just exactly what was going through his head when the disaster occurred and how Lauren was able to hold space for his fear then laugh with him to release the tension that had been built up in his body - BECAUSE of her.
Lauren expounds on WHY she did what she did and all the work it took to stay present in the midst of her major failure. Then, at minute marker 31:06, she outlines Dr. Petra Zebroff's Seven Styles of Sexual Initiation and how knowing what turns ourselves and our partners on can be such a cool party trick!
This episode is a prime example of our desire for this podcast to be a "how we" instead of "how to!" We are messy, flawed, and at times downright dysfunctional. We hope your bedroom disasters feel more normal after you've watched/listened!

Money & Porn - Recent events that have us talking!
On Episode 8 Lauren shares how she recently failed to communicate about a joint financial decision and Trey shares his newest thoughts on pornography. They walk through their juvenile insecurities and the surprisingly similar origins of their desire to conceal behaviors.
If money and sex are two of the most common reasons for divorce, you might want to give this raw episode a listen. Lauren and Trey come to unfiltered discoveries about the motivations behind each of their tendencies and how they can support one another as partners.
Watch as Lauren, a Professional Sexuality Educator, listens to a clip from the @mattandshanessecretpodcast9138 at minute 19:22. Her real-time reactions to Matt's thoughts on porn are un-edited and completely unscripted. Then watch as Trey connects his instance of "getting caught" back to Lauren's monetary concealment.
Pornography can be a sensitive subject and Lauren would love to walk you and your partners through the murky waters surrounding this tough conversation. Click here to book a Free 15-Minute Consult: https://sexedforyou.as.me/freeconsult

The Falwell Documentary: Our honest thoughts on the sexual behaviors of our neighbors
On Episode 7 we share our raw and honest thoughts on the new Hulu documentary: God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty. Not only do we live in the SAME TOWN as Jerry and Becki Falwell, Jerry Falwell, Sr, founder of Liberty University, married Lauren's parents. As we watched the almost 2-hour documentary, Lauren couldn't stop analyzing the content through her lived experiences and professional lenses, so Trey recommended they hop in their podcasting chairs a week early and get their thoughts on camera.
For decades, Lauren would have brushed off a scandalous film, such as GOD FORBID, as an attempt to speak ill of an institution committed to "training champions for Christ." But over the past 5 years, Lauren has changed her mind. As a survivor of spiritual abuse, purity culture indoctrination, and religious trauma, who now works as a Professional Sexuality Educator, she has done extensive research on the longterm impacts of the type of sexual oppression students at Liberty University experience. On this episode, Lauren breaks down the harmful effects of pedestal paradigms, Freud's theory of Reaction Formation, The Cornerstones of Eroticism, the harmful effects of sexual splitting, and more.
When sexuality fails to be integrated, we see what should be natural and joyous expressions of ourselves become harmful and destructive behaviors. In this revealing documentary, Giancarlo Granda, former pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Hotel, shares the intimate details of his 7-year relationship with an older woman, who we come to discover is former Liberty First Lady, Becki Falwell, and her husband, and Liberty University President, Jerry Falwell Jr. You can watch the documentary here: https://www.hulu.com/movie/god-forbid-the-sex-scandal-that-brought-down-a-dynasty-d0c5802f-05ec-4826-9390-f9ceca67f3e0
As always, this podcast is not a proclamation of judgment or critique of the human experience, but rather an opportunity to learn and grow. Qualifying & Disqualifying: The story of how we met!
On Episode 5 we discuss the process of qualifying and disqualifying what you're looking for in order to find a partner, lover, friend, or even a healthy work environment! We share how, even though we were on opposite sides of the country, we were independently developing our own systems for choosing. We touch on perhaps the least talked about part of this process - the refining who WE ARE in order to become the type of human another partner is looking for!
10/26/22 is the THIRD anniversary of our first date in San Diego, California. For the first time, we are sharing our cheeky first messages inside the MATCH app, our first phone call that felt so comfortable, and the magical moment we met where it felt like we'd known each other our whole lives. What was supposed to be a "one night stand" turned into a whole lot more.
What happens when an "eligible divorcee" from Virginia meets a Californian who's "looking for a female who's a driver." You'll have to watch or listen to find out.

Our Relationship Agreement!
On Episode 4 we break down the beauty of choosing partnership. We share the ins and outs of our Partnership Agreement, highlighting WHY we choose and HOW we choose each other every day.
Lauren comes from a fundamentally religious home and was raised to believe she was the property of God, her father, and her future husband. After a traumatizing first marriage, Lauren promised herself that her body would never belong to anyone but herself ever again.
For reasons of his own, Trey was only interested in Consensual Non-Monogamous (CNM) relationships until he met Lauren on October 26th, 2019.
What happens when you combine a Purity Culture Survivor from Lynchburg, VA with a consensually non-monogamous Californian who's never heard of Jerry Falwell? You'll have to watch or listen to find out.

In Conflict (Part 2)
Friends, we've found our way back. The great Emily Nagoski, Ph.D. shares that healthy couples are not those, "who never hurt each other; they're the ones who find their way back." We couldn't agree more. (If you haven't, pick up a copy of her books, COME AS YOU ARE and BURNOUT - they will forever change your partnerships.)
While Trey was editing Part 1 of Episode 3 for you, his nervous system became even more activated from watching the conflict on repeat. Out of frustration, he sent a mean/critical text to Lauren. Instead of letting it linger, they both decided it was time to press into their discomfort and figure out how to find their way back to one another.
While we failed to bring microphones along to record our actual healing conversation, you can rest easy. We hopped in our podcasting chairs as soon as we could to record Part 2 for you! On this Episode, we take you through the step-by-step process of HOW this conflict was resolved for us. From golf course convos to wild sex - this resolution is one you don't want to miss.

Bonus Content: Tingle Time!
We couldn't keep this gem to ourselves! In this Bonus Segment, Lauren describes a term used by a Sexuality Education Colleague to reference the time of the day one prefers to engage in intimacy...
This is Trey's reaction to whether or not he would resent having a request for sex denied during his "Tingle Time."
