How Can I Argue Against "My Body, My Choice"? (Special Podcast Highlight)

Patrick Madrid tackles a question from Jay in Madison, Wisconsin. Jay has a bit of a dilemma: his relatives, despite being wonderful people and regular churchgoers, keep tossing out the "my body, my choice" line when it comes to abortion. So, how does he respond?    Here’s Patrick’s Take:   Thought-Stopping Slogan: Patrick points out that "my body, my choice" is really just a way to shut down the conversation. It's meant to stop you in your tracks and avoid any deeper thinking. It’s more of a slogan than an actual argument. So don't let them stop you from speaking the truth in love.    Unborn Child’s Right to Life: He makes it clear that if it were truly about someone’s own body, then it would be the person themselves who dies, not the unborn child. The fact is that the unborn child is a separate entity with his or her own right to life.    Biological Facts: Patrick doesn’t shy away from science. He points out that if the unborn child were just part of the mother’s body, we wouldn't be able to harvest organs from it. Clearly, there's a distinct body.    Inconvenience vs. Obligation: He acknowledges that pregnancy can be inconvenient, but there’s a profound obligation to care for the unborn child. Temporary inconvenience is nothing compared to the precious gift of life.    Consistency in Beliefs: Patrick then takes a clever turn. He asks if these same relatives were all about mask-wearing during COVID for the greater good. If so, how is it any different when it comes to protecting the unborn? It’s a compelling way to show the inconsistency in their logic.    Scientific Evidence: To wrap it up, Patrick stresses that life begins at conception – a fact supported by science. There’s even a fascinating phenomenon where a flash of light is observed at the moment of fertilization. Life is truly a miracle!    So, what do you think? Patrick’s advice is to stand firm, speak the truth with love, and trust that in time, these conversations might plant seeds that grow into a change of heart.    Keep the faith and keep the conversation going!

The Patrick Madrid Show: August 14, 2024 - Hour 2

Patrick discusses a caller's question about how intentionally eating meat on Fridays used to be considered a mortal sin by the Catholic Church. He explains that this was a discipline, not a doctrine, which the Church changed from a mortal sin to a venial sin or no sin after Vatican II while still encouraging penitential practice on Fridays. Patrick cites Acts 15 to show that the early Church had the authority to adjust disciplinary practices that were considered sinful to violate at the time, demonstrating that the Church can change the gravity of certain sins regarding matters of discipline.   Email – Should I make three wishes when I enter a new church? (02:55) Email – What is the Seal of the Living God? The Patrick Madrid Show: August 14, 2024 - Hour 3

Patrick explains that the Bible does not argue against Mary's perpetual virginity, but rather is silent on the issue, neither confirming nor denying that she had children other than Jesus. He points to several pieces of evidence, such as only Jesus ever being referred to as the son of Mary, Jesus entrusting Mary to the care of Saint John rather than a sibling, and some of the "brothers of Jesus" mentioned being sons of a different Mary. Patrick believes there is ample biblical evidence refuting the idea that Mary had other children besides Jesus.   Steve - Terms of Service Agreement w/Disney.  Many of them contain a clause that you are agreeing to financially and personally be responsible if anything may happen to that company. (16:11) Nathaniel – I need a book recommendation for a Mormon who is dating my daughter and he is considering becoming Catholic? (27:31) Zach – Regarding the church's teaching on valid baptism: the Church requires the party to do what the Church does, how does that apply to a believer's baptism? (41:37) John - Is there any theology behind the idea that people in hell would want to exist in hell as opposed to not existing as well? (45:57)

Patrick addresses an interesting listener question comparing left-handedness to homosexuality from the perspective of Catholic teaching and natural law.
