Malinda from Sri Lanka - Dublin comedy, being a professional artist, seagulls, North Face jackets

Last night we had our first ever live podcast. It’s hard to believe that this podcast has even gotten to the point where we could do something like this but the stars aligned and a lot of different people helped us and made it happen for us. So a big thanks to them and to all the people who came along to the show. It was great fun and the good news is, it’ll be the same again next week as we look to try and do the live podcasts on a weekly basis. The night wasn’t without it’s stereotypical ‘opening night’ problems. Originally we had planned on putting the podcast out on YouTube live as well, but apparently you need to give YouTube 24 hours notice before you do your first live on your channel. Who knew? I didn’t. We also had a couple of lads in the background doing their thing playing boardgames. We had the room booked for the evening but we decided to let them in as the room is really big and we didn’t think our mics would pick them up. Once again, wrong again, so apologies for any background noise you hear during this episode.Apart from all that, our guest Malinda was absolutely wonderful and our live audience were even better! Malinda is a professional stand-up comic from Sri Lanka based out of Dublin. We talk about the Dublin comedy scene, realities of being a professional artist, seagulls, North Face jackets and much much more.Malinda runs the N2O comedy show which is in The Black Sheep on Capel Street on Friday and Saturday night. We couldn’t recommend it more. Check out the link in the description of this episode.www.eventbrite.ie/o/n2o-comedy-club-dublin-36652764853 Hosted on Acast. Thales from Brazil - taking responsibility for your happiness

Thales arrived in Dublin in 2017 and like so many who have arrived on these shores, has had many ups and downs throughout his journey here. Thales has a unique perspective on life and his ability to get through hard times whilst still maintaining a positive and focused attitude is something which I personally find very inspiring. On top of this he’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met. In this episode he tells us about how he worked as a deliveroo rider and as a bar back whilst studying English when he first arrived in Ireland. Fast forward to five years later and he’s working as a developer in Dublin and the host of his own podcast, in which he has episodes in English and Portuguese. More importantly than any of this, he’s just a really nice guy. I’ll leave a link to his Instagram and to his podcast in the description of this episode. Thanks for listening guys and I really hope you enjoy this chat we had with Thales. https://instagram.com/talkeandopodcast?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=, https://open.spotify.com/show/0mtazWb31AvE5RdZLagsdk?si=wAoVT13MQzaJosV7KKLBQA Hosted on Acast. Filipe from Brazil - Dublin’s Brazilian community

Filipe from Brazil joins us on the podcast this week. He’s a very well-known guy in the Brazilian community abroad as he is the host of The Bolder podcast, which has almost 15k subscribers on YouTube. He’s spoken to so many Brazilians living here in Ireland and he’s now expanding the reach of his interviews to the Brazilian community around Europe as well as Ireland. We talk about many things, including what his expectations of Ireland were before he moved here back in 2011, the difficulties faced by people forced to study English in order to have a visa even if their English is perfect, the tragic death of Thiago Cortes and violence towards Delivery drivers and advice that Filipe would give anyone who is thinking to move to Ireland in 2023. It’s a great conversation with Filipe, we really enjoyed it and I hope you do to. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Jess from Mexico - pursuing your dream and how to get your Visa in Ireland

Jess initially came to Ireland, despite not knowing a lot about it, to learn English and to improve her career opportunities. As she researched more about Ireland she got more and more excited about her life here but she became disheartened when she learned that she would not be permitted to work in her profession (Robotics - control and automation) due to the fact that she could only attain a work (part-time) and study Visa. Despite these difficulties, she kept her dream front and centre in her mind. Her success, like many stories of success, did not happen in a straight line. She lived through many ups and downs and thought of giving up on numerous occasions. Her story highlights how difficult it is for people who move to Ireland from outside of the EU to work in something which they are qualified to do, and along with that comes many of the psychological and financial stresses. Thankfully, Jess has now attained a working Visa which has allowed her to a get a great job with a multi-national company here in Dublin. If you need inspiration and an example of someone who has managed to create a good life for themselves in Ireland despite many bureaucratic issues, we throughly recommend giving this episode a listen. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Shaun from Nigeria/Ireland - starting out as a comic in Ireland, moving between Ireland and Nigeria

Shaun is an outstanding young talent that we are very lucky to have here in our Ireland and even luckier to have had him on our podcast. He goes into detail on how he got into the creative arts and the joy he he gets from writing comedy. Shaun tells us that he initially didn’t like performing stand-up comedy but has grown into it over the years. He’s had the unique experience of growing up in two very different cultures as a young man and without doubt that has shaped the person he is and the respect he has for hard work and where that can get him. Comedy is a fantastic way to get to meet new people if you have moved to a new city and the comedy scene in Dublin is currently thriving.
