Tom from Zimbabwe - from law student to barrister in Ireland, shark attacks in the Pacific Ocean, growing up in Zimbabwe, life in Ireland and more

It was an absolute pleasure to talk to Tom and to learn about his life story so far. He tells us about his childhood growing up on a farm in Zimbabwe and his travels around world. He worked on a super yacht in Southeast Asia as a dive instructor and got on really well with the Irish doctors onboard the boat. For that reason, he decided to change his scenery completely and move to Dublin as he thought he might really enjoy it. He began studying law here in Ireland (and apparently really enjoys Irish law!) and is now working as a barrister. He's a great character and I must say that this one is well worth the watch. Enjoy!Pubs mentioned in the podcast: Mulligans - https://www.visitdublin.com/mulligans...Bowes - http://www.bowespub.com/Harkins - https://harkinsbar.ie/Stags Head - https://stagshead.ie/ Hosted on Acast. Edward from Singapore - creating a start-up in Dublin, missing family at home, loving Stoneybatter

Ed was kind enough to talk to us this week. He surprises us by telling his story about growing up in Singapore whilst attending a Christian Brothers School, being founded by Irish teachers! Ed lived and worked in Italy and we discuss his transition from Italy to Ireland and why his company expanded here to Dublin. Missing family and missing home is part of the expat life and we talk about how he deals with that. It was a great conversation and an absolute pleasure to have Ed on the podcast! If you’re in Stoneybatter, Ed recommends checking out Grano, an Italian restaurant and A Fianco, a nice new wine bar. I hope you enjoy the conversation!! Hosted on Acast. Auriane from France/South Africa - how to integrate into new places as an introvert, Dublin’s food.

Auriane grew up in South Africa with two French parents and talks to us about what it was like to grow up as a third culture kid (someone who has grown up in a culture which is different to the culture of their parents). Auriane describes herself as an introvert but does not let that stop her from getting out there and meeting people in new places, which we really admire. She’s lived in France, Belgium, Australia, the UK and now Ireland so has a lot of experience adapting and integrating into new places and new cultures. She’s been very proactive in her search for a friend network in Dublin and has even started her own brunch and cocktail club! Auriane recommends checking out Tang for nice food (https://www.tang.ie), United Coffee for an excellent coffee (instagram.com/unitedcoffeehouseandco), Vice for good pizza and excellent service (instagram.com/vicedublin), and Yoi Izakaya for Japanese food (www.yoiizakaya.ie). Marc from Spain - getting out of your comfort zone, work life in Ireland, new Ireland and new Irish

Marc joins us on the podcast this week to talk about his experience so far in Dublin and in Ireland. He’s a great example of someone who has tried to get the best out of his experience here by integrating as much as possible into Irish culture and by getting out of his comfort zone. We chat about his professional life and what he likes to do in Dublin in his spare time. He gives great advice for people who are trying to improve their confidence when speaking English. Marc recommends checking out Dublin’s parks and markets (Stoneybatter, Dun Laoighre, St Anne’s Park) to see and feel what ‘real life’ in Ireland is like. For those who love a good cup of coffee, Marc recommends 3fe and Bear Market coffee. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Anja from Serbia - a brief history of Serbia and Kosovo, slow living and sustainability.

Anja was nice enough to talk to us on the podcast this week. She talks to us about how past conflicts in Serbia have shaped modern life there and how she she has searched for more opportunities outside of her Country. Anja is an advocate for living a more sustainable life and tells us about the benefits of slow living. Discussing this topic makes us fantasise about the benefits of life in the countryside vs life in the city. She has integrated into life in Ireland really quickly and appreciates the openness and friendliness in which she has been received here in Ireland. Anja recommends checking out Merrion Square Park in Dublin for chilling out and Bonobos bar in Smithfield for a beer and catch up with friends. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. Marjorie from Brazil - how a new culture can change your life and shape your perspectives.

Marjorie was kind enough to talk to us and I have to say it was an amazingly open and honest conversation. She originally moved to Ireland back in 2013 and has lived between Dublin and Portugal since then. We talk about how her perspectives on certain things like religion, friendships and her profesional life have changed since she moved away from Brazil. We go into a little bit of detail on the political situation in Brazil and abroad our takes on philosophy. She also talks to us a little bit about the debate that many people who move to a new country have, whether to stay longer or whether to make another move. One place she recommends is a little cafe in Temple Bar called Joy of Cha, joyofcha.com. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Cleber from Brazil - from banking in Brazil to teaching in Ireland, socialising with Irish people

At long last we have our first Brazilian on the podcast! Cleber came to Ireland originally as an English language student with a stamp 2 visa and so he knows the ups and downs of life in Ireland under those circumstances. Nowadays he works as an English teacher here in Dublin and he tells us about the resilience needed to get to that point. He gives some great advice and I think everyone, whether you’re Irish, Brazilian or Spanish or whatever can take something away from his experiences. We talk about the difficulties that many people have making friends from Ireland and also discuss the future of Ireland as a multicultural Country. I hope you all enjoy it. Please remember to rate, review or share the podcast with a friend. That helps us more than you could know! You can contact us @a_life_in_dublin on Instagram or alifeindublin@gmail.com.
