There’s a lot of stigma and negativity around the church and money. But the truth is, for Christians, generosity isn’t really about finances at all. Living a generous life is a response to the grace of God that we have been freely given through Jesus. There are a lot of varying thoughts on demons, angels and the supernatural. Maybe you’ve experienced things that can’t be explained, you’ve never really given it much thought or you don’t believe in things you can’t see. Regardless, we believe there is power at work in and around your life. There is even power that you can use. Why does it seem like the closer people get to God, the less grace they extend to others? Sometimes the most spiritual people extend the least amount of grace. As we continue with Everyday People, Pastor Naeem uses the story of Jonah to show us the grace we’ve been given and the grace we need to give others. Gratefulness can feel like a checklist of things we’re happy to have (or we’re supposed to be happy to have). But choosing to be grateful and see the effect of Jesus in our lives is actually a choice - usually a hard one - that we have to practice making. Gratitude helps us to see what IS instead of what isn’t. If you find it easier to complain, compare, compete or cancel other people, this message from Pastor Kristin will help you move from a perspective of looking at other people to seeing where God is already, always, moving in your life. Forgiving people often feels hard to do. But forgiveness is necessary in the process of learning to love other people better. Trust is complicated because you may trust someone to do one thing, but not another. When our trust is broken, we often carry that distrust into other relationships. It’s even possible to love people you don’t trust - which makes relationships difficult. Loving people is hard for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s different love languages, sometimes it’s because we don’t know how to receive love ourselves, sometimes it’s just because…people. Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves but it seems to have been misinterpreted to love the neighbors who are like ourselves. People often go to church or turn to God because they want a blessing. But what Jesus really calls us to as the church is to be a blessing to other people. Not only does God answer our prayers, but He allows us to be an answer to prayers.
