Donate to Green & Red Podcast, Get Books!

We’ve gotten a lot more donors this year and we really appreciate it and  we’d like to have a few more. We run on a shoestring budget but we do  have to pay for some tech help and promotions. G&R co-host Bob Buzzanco has a number of history books that he's edited or written that he's donating to the G&R cause. So, we're running a special Green and Red fundraising event! The books edited by Buzzanco include: Question Authority: Resistance and Protest in Early U.S. History American Power, American People (U.S. from Colonial Period to Civil War) Reelin' in the Years: The United States Since 1945 As They Said It, Volume I: The Colonial Era to Reconstruction As They Said, Volume II: Reconstruction to the Present American Society Since 1900 Readings and Documents in Post-1945 U.S. History War, Imperialism and Dissent: Readings in U.S. Foreign Policy The Vietnam War If you donate $35, we’ll send you one. Donate $60 and you get 3. Donate $125 and you get all 7. And three others written by Buzzanco include: Masters of War; Vietnam and the Transformation of American Life; Blackwell Companion to the Vietnam War. Since they’re in short supply, we’ll send you one autographed copy for a $100 donation. And then if you are with institutional left media (Jacobin, The Nation), prices are doubled. If you are with the corporate oil and gas, nuclear or banking sectors, prices are tripled. And, of course, prices are quadrupled for law enforcement.  If you want to donate and get a book, you can email us at greenredpodcast@gmail.com or DM us on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. You can donate to Green & Red at https://bit.ly/DonateGandR You can also become a recurring donor at https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast Blog post with all the details: https://bit.ly/3nMBdRp Thanks for all the support and being such a great audience! Capital’s war on the working class w/ Prof. Chad Pearson and Prof. Ahmed White (G&R 168)

“The remedy” to labor troubles, said J. West Goodwin, a Missouri businessman and newspaperman “is a counter organization.” In a fascinating conversation around the history of capital and labor, we dive deep into the business sector's remedies to workers organizing unions, blacks seeking greater liberation and other forms of progress. We talk about laws criminalizing syndicalism and the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), vigilante groups from the Ku Klux Klan to committees of "law and order" doing the bidding of the ruling class and private security forces that the bosses hire to repress labor organizing.  We also discuss current events paralleling the earlier periods of labor and progressive repression.  We talk about race, class and the iron heel of the state coming down on all those that resist it.  We talk with Prof. Ahmed White at the University of Colardo Boulder, and Prof. Chad Pearson at Collin College about their forthcoming books (see the bios below) on the topics.  Bios// Ahmed White is the Nicholas Rosenbaum Professor of Law at the University of Colorado-Boulder where he has taught labor and criminal law since 2000. He is the author of The Last Great Strike: Little Steel, the CIO, and the Struggle for Labor Rights in New Deal America (Oakland: University of California Press, 2016) as well as a great many law review articles, book chapters, reviews, and essays.  His current book, Under the Iron Heel: The Wobblies and the Capitalist War on Radical Workers, will be published later this year by the University of California Press and he is presently at work on another book, this one about communist organizing and labor repression in the 1920s and 1930s. Chad Pearson teaches history at Collin College, a community college in Plano, Texas. He is the author of Reform or Repression: Organizing America’s Anti-Union Movement (Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 2016) and is co-editor with Rosemary Feurer (pronounced Foyer) of Against Labor: How U.S. Employers Organized to Defeat Union Activism (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 2017). He has published essays in Counterpunch, History Compass, Jacobin, Journal of Labor and Society, Labor History, Labour/Le Travail, and Monthly Review. His current book, Capital’s Terrorists: Klansmen, Lawmen, and Employers in the Long Nineteenth Century, will be published by the University of North Carolina Press later this year. ----------------------------------------------------------- Outro// "Union Burying Ground" by Woody Guthrie Links// Pearson: Capital’s Terrorists: Klansmen, Lawmen, and Employers in the Long Nineteenth Century (https://bit.ly/3zQ8anh) White: Under the Iron Heel The Wobblies and the Capitalist War on Radical (https://bit.ly/3n301Ev) The Ku Klux Klan Was Also a Bosses’ Association (https://bit.ly/3y8tQtn) The Right-Wing Violence Trump Has Encouraged Has Deep Roots in American History (https://bit.ly/3tSrr3v) Memorial Day, 1937 (https://bit.ly/39Fo611) Law, Labor, and the Hard Edge of Progressivism: The Legal Repression of Radical Unionism and the American Labor Movement's Long Decline (https://bit.ly/3HEbW55) Follow Green and Red// https://linktr.ee/greenandredpodcast Check out our new website: https://greenandredpodcast.org/ Donate to Green and Red Podcast// Become a recurring donor at  https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast Or make a one time donation here: https://bit.ly/DonateGandR This is a Green and Red Podcast  (@PodcastGreenRed) production. Blood-Soaked America ft. Greg Abbott, Ted Cruz and Charlton Heston (G&R 165)

It's a bleak outlook for America these days-- mass shootings, the end of Roe vs. Wade, inflation, culture wars and the rise of the far right.  Bob and Scott take some time to talk about it. Support our BIG SILKY SMOOTH DREAM!!

We started as a couple of kids with a big silky smooth dream-- the Green and Red Podcast. Over the past two years, we've built a small grassroots radical media outlet that has brought you interviews with Noam Chomsky, historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, sociologist Alex Vitale, economist Richard Wolff and more. We've talked about issues of the environment, labor, popular culture, war and peace, public health and anti-imperialism. Just this year, we've done episodes on Chevron's persecution of attorney Steven Donziger, Oliver Stone's JFK conspiracies, the war in Ukraine and the end of Roe v. Wade.  Now, to keep ourselves afloat with the little overhead that we have [editing and promotion], we are asking you to support our work.  Can you please support the Green and Red Podcast with a small donation. You can either: Make a small (or large) one-time donation here:https://bit.ly/3EDpviV Or become a Patron at: https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast We're extremely grateful for all the love, support and feedback we get from you.  So much thanks and love. Ukraine in the Brain w/ Vladimir Putin, Joe Biden and George W. Bush (G&R 164)

The ruling class follies continue both at home and abroad. Another $40 billion going to aid the Ukrainian war effort while there are baby formula and COVID vaccine shortages in the U.S. Plus George W. Bush gives a speech at the Bush Institute about stolen Russian elections (what about Florida 2000?) and illegal invasions of Iraq... er... Ukraine..  In all seriousness, the brutality of military and economic war against populations around the war is heartbreaking.  We continue our commentary on the history and politics around the war in Ukraine.  -------------------------------------------------------------- Outro// "Sea of Heartbreak" by Don Gibson Links// War Pigs: Ukraine and the History of the Military-Industrial Complex (https://apple.co/34cn5KZ) G&R: Deep Background on Ukraine and Russia (https://apple.co/3sn9w4T) G&R: U.S. Empire and Ukraine w/ Prof. Clinton Fernandes. The End of Roe vs. Wade: Texas, Abortion and Mutual Aid ft. reporter Candice Bernd w/ Truthout (G&R 162)

Texas' right wing establishment has waged war on abortion and abortion  providers for many years. In 2013, Texas HB 2 closed 23 abortion clinics  and led to an 11 hour filibuster by State Senator Wendy Davis and mass  occupation of the state capital by pro-choice protestors. Earlier this  year, the passage of SB 8 put bounties on anyone associated with  providing an abortion. Texas abortion providers have already been  preparing for escalated legal action and criminalization of the  practice. Now with the likely overturning of Roe vs. Wade, that is  becoming more real.    Bob and Scott host Candice Bernd (@candicebernd), Senior Editor and  Reporter at Truthout, about her new article "Texas Abortion Funds Work  to Reduce Looming Harms of Post-“Roe” Criminalization."    We discuss the recent history of Texas' war against abortion. What  providers are doing to support those needing it. How local pro-choice  politicians are dealing with state and federal repression. And the  inevitable right wing backlash.    Candice Bernd is senior editor/staff reporter at Truthout. Her work has  also appeared in several other publications, including The Nation, In  These Times, the Texas Observer, Salon, Rewire News Group, Sludge, YES!  Magazine and Earth Island Journal. Her work has received awards from the  San Francisco Press Club, the Fort Worth chapter of Society of  Professional Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association,  and the Dallas Peace and Justice Center.   --------------------------------------------------------------  Outro// "White Crosses" by Outdoor Velour   Links//  Candice Bernd:Texas Abortion Funds Work to Reduce Looming Harms of  Post-“Roe” Criminalization (https://bit.ly/3yYYeYj)  National Abortion Funds: https://abortionfunds.org/   Follow Green and Red//  https://linktr.ee/greenandredpodcast ** out our new website: https://greenandredpodcast.org/  Join our Discord Party: https://discord.gg/dF99bJNb   Donate to Green and Red Podcast//  Become a recurring donor at  https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast  Or make a one time donation here: https://bit.ly/DonateGandR   This is a Green and Red Podcast  (@PodcastGreenRed) production. The End of Roe vs. Wade: Reproductive Rights and Direct Action ft. Hope w/ Shutdown DC (G&R 161)

Last week, a draft of a brief overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked to Politico causing an uproar in many sectors. This decision will put the health and safety of millions of women in jeopardy. Predictably, the establishment focused on catching the leaker. Outrage hit Twitter.  And the left hit the streets. In a series of episodes, Green and Red will focus on how grassroots direct action and mutual aid groups are organizing in the wake of this political tidal wave. Before Roe, we saw underground movements to support women seeking abortions. After the 1973 ruling on Roe, we saw grassroots activists doing clinic defense in the face of violent right wing protests that included assassination of abortion providers and clinic bombings. Now as we’re looking at a time where Roe could be overturned, we’re going to be talking over the next couple of episodes about what's next for direct action and mutual aid at the end of Roe vs Wade.   This past week, demonstrations at the homes of Supreme Court justices led to ruling class and liberal denouncements of protests. The Senate immediately passed a resolution to give extra security to justices (there is no gridlock in protecting the ruling class).  In our latest episode, Scott talks with Hope with Shutdown DC (@ShutDown_DC).  Shutdown DC has been organizing actions at the Supreme Court, at the homes of Supreme Court justices and supporting the neighbors of these justices who have led regular actions at the homes for a long time. They also discussed the impact of the overturning of Roe, the future of direct action once it's happened and what's next in the coming weeks and months on this issue.   Hope is a public health student in Washington, DC. Her areas of study include pregnancy, parenting and family planning as well as understanding and combating health misinformation and disinformation. She is originally from Southern Ohio and has been involved in defending abortion access since 2015. Hope loves skill building, training and storytelling and supports movements for climate justice, racial justice, healthcare access and of course, abortion rights as a communications team member, art builder and street medic. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Outro// "End of My Bloodline (Remix) by the Screaming Females with Moor Mother and Sammus Links// National Abortion Funds: https://abortionfunds.org/ DC Abortion Fund: https://abortionfunds.org/ Shutdown DC: https://www.shutdowndc.org/ The Nation: F*&k Civility! Ukraine and the Fog of War ft. Jodie Evans w/ Code Pink (G&R 160)

The Green and Red Seminar on the war in Ukraine continues! As the head of NATO says that the allies are prepared to support the Ukraine war effort for years to come, and Biden asks Congress for another $33 billion in war aid, we take a look at the anti-war movement over the past decades.  From Bush's invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, to Obama's drone wars to military build-ups in Asia and eastern Europe, the U.S. public has been lost in a fog of never ending war with critical voices for peace being the only light.  In our latest episode, we talk with long time peace activist and co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink (@codepink), Jodie Evans (@MsJodieEvans). We discuss the recent history of anti-war movements and the state of them today. Campaigns against war mongering politicians and arms manufacturers waged by Code Pink. The connection between the military industrial complex and the climate crisis, and the recent silencing of anti-war voices like Chris Hedges, Abby Martin and Lee Camp.  Jodie Evans is the co-founder of CODEPINK and the after-school writing program 826LA, and serves on the CODEPINK Board of Directors. Jodie is the co-editor of two books, "Twilight of Empire: Responses to Occupation" and "Stop the Next War Now: Effective Responses to Violence and Terrorism" and a contributor to “Beautiful Trouble: A Toolbox for Revolution.” She is currently writing a book about divesting from the unjust, extractive war economy and building a just, sustainable peace economy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Outro// "Anti-war Dub" by Mala Links// Code Pink: https://www.codepink.org/ Code Pink’s Panel on Media Censorship of Voices for Peace Featuring Abby Martin, Lee Camp and Chris Hedges (https://bit.ly/3ybnGZV) Follow Green and Red// https://linktr.ee/greenandredpodcast Check out our new website: https://greenandredpodcast.org/ Join our Discord Party: https://discord.gg/dF99bJNb Donate to Green and Red Podcast// Become a recurring donor at  https://www.patreon.com/greenredpodcast Or make a one time donation here: https://bit.ly/DonateGandR This is a Green and Red Podcast  (@PodcastGreenRed) production.
