WTF is Up with Mom Triggers? | Episode 2 of WTF is Up Series

In this new, uncut series of the podcast, G is coming to you from wherever the F she finds herself (a power walk, maybe?) to share an aspect of woman-ing that has her saying, “What in the actual . . .?!”  Because it’s always nice to feel less alone in the clusterfuck that is life and to hear how we’re navigating the hard, the human and the straight up WTFs of, well . . . back to school, for example.     Personally, this back-to-school season was ripe with basic B mom triggers where I found myself in spirals of doubt.  Why did I let the girls pick out their own clothes?  Did everyone else bring supplies to the first event?  Why am I so bad at this and other moms are so good?  Remember that in this WTFness of modern motherhood, you can take your power back when you stop the self-judgment. It’s all an opportunity to remember that when you prioritize the things that matter to YOU as a parent, everything gets a LOT easier.   I love you so much.  You’re doing amazing!   To join this conversation, join me over on Instagram: www.instagram.com/gervasekolmos and share your triggers about back-to-school.   Do you want to do everything or be you while you do what matters most?  Sales are open now for LEGACY.   Apply to work with me: https://gervasekolmos.podia.com/1-1-coaching-intensive

The Abortion Story Lawmakers Need to Hear with Sarah Frick

Trigger warning: In this episode we will be discussing abortion and sharing a story of a newborn baby’s death. Please care for your wellbeing   In today’s episode Gervase is talking with newfound activist and a Charleston force for abortion rights, Sarah Frick. Sarah shares her personal and painful story of losing her first baby, Grace, at three days old and the medical complication that led to her making the choice to abort her next two fetuses before finally birthing the three healthy children she has now. It’s messy and inspiring, as all the best stories are, which is why we hope this conversation empowers you to go share yours with people open to listening.   In this episode we dive into: The moment Sarah got the call and knew she would need to abort her baby Why her story highlights that safe abortions need to be legal Sarah’s (not great) experience speaking in front of lawmakers in the Senate How to be pro–life and pro-Jesus and the intersection of religion and politics What it’s like to be a newfound activist How to protect our energy while fighting the good fight How to navigate the awkward spaces as women and mothers where we find differences of beliefs How and why the old white men making all these new laws and decisions about women’s bodies are clearly acting out of fear   We know conversations about abortion aren’t always “comfortable,” but we believe compassionate conversations are the only things with the power to change the lens through which we see complex issues.   If you would like to take action to support Reject the Total Abortion Ban- Call your Senator immediately and tell them to vote NO H 5399 before the bill is debated on the Senate floor on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 For more information Click here.   More about Sarah Frick: Sarah Frick has been in the yoga and fitness industry for 16 years. After opening and operating two successful power yoga studios for 10 years in Charleston, South Carolina, Sarah sold both at the peak of their success to rebrand not only her fitness concept but herself. She wanted more than just a fitness experience. Sarah’s life had changed. She had changed. She had grown. She had experienced loss. She had experienced grief. And, ultimately, she had experienced grace. Losing her first child, Grace,in early infancy was a pivotal point in Sarah’s life. Losing Grace dropped Sarah into her body, into her heart, and into her life to truly see what was important and what mattered. From that, The Works Method started to bud and to take life. This practice she created—The Works Method—is extremely physical. She inspires people to think, If I can work through some of this shit on my mat, imagine what I can do in my own life. Sarah currently lives in a little beach town with her three wild children and equally wild husband.  Connect with Sarah on Instagram: @sarahlivesyoga and @theworkschs The workschs.com   Work with Gervase   Click LEGACY on sale now.   Apply to work with Gervase by booking a Soul Shift Intensive: https://gervasekolmos.podia.com/1-1-coaching-intensive  Download your free gift, the Trust Yo’self hypnosis track: https://bit.ly/3xKuaPv    Follow Gervase Connect with Gervase on Instagram: www.instagram.com/gervasekolmos Visit my website: https://www.gervasekolmos.com/    Resources Mentioned: WREN - Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network:  https://www.scwren.org/

How Do We Survive and Thrive Together with Kerri Kelly

In this complex conversation with Kerri Kelly, the author of American Detox, Kerri shares with Gervase the event that disrupted life and forever changed her as she strove to find meaning, healing and understanding of who she was and how she got to this place. In this episode we dive into: Our roles in the world and what shapes us. How our societal rules are built to uphold systems of power. The veil that clouds our ability to see the truth. Vast differences in life experience based on proximity to privilege. How good intentions don’t justify actions.   Kerri shares that you can start to recalibrate your life around new values based on the truth.  Just being willing to hold the truth and be changed by the truth allows you to see that the “we” is more important than the “I” if we are going to survive and thrive together.  It’s about opening to the whole truth in our world and realizing that we have all internalized the teaching of toxic ideas.  By interrogating our actions and thoughts, locating where we are inside of the systems of power and privilege and engaging collectively we can imagine a better world for everyone. Kerri is the founder of CTZNWELL, a movement that is democratizing wellbeing for all. A descendant of generations of firemen and first responders, Kerri has dedicated her life to kicking down doors and fighting for justice. She’s been teaching yoga for over 20 years and is known for making waves in the wellness industry by challenging norms, disrupting systems and mobilizing people to act.  Guest Info Connect with Kerri on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kkellyyoga/ Learn more at https://americandetox.co/  Order American Detox. Which, btw, what is time? Who is managing theirs according to whatever insane expectations they’ve set for themselves and am I the only one who has decided I’ve managed 100% of the time I’ve had up until this moment and maybe I can just give myself more credit today and every day for how much I DO do with the time I’ve got? Healing from unconscious cycles of judgment in all relationships

In this powerful conversation with Gervase’s colleague, friend and mentor, Jolenny Piedra, Jolenny shares her personal story of how a traumatic injury at a young age gifted her the perspective she and G both feel could change the world: From “Why is this happening to me?” to “What is this here to teach me?” They also dive deep into how to strengthen our human capacity for being in community with strangers or loved ones who trigger us and challenge us. Expect endless mindset shifts for working with reality and not against it, in all areas of life, particularly relationships. And a crash course on how to not only learn from cycles of judgment with loved ones, but to actually see them as opportunities for healing. Jolenny is a Trauma-Informed Spiritual Life Coach. Over the past 13 years, she has worked with thousands of clients, holding a space of deep safety, reverence and acceptance as they mapped their own paths from emotional and spiritual struggle back to the light of truth and of love. Meeting Your Moment of Self-Trust

This week, Gervase is giving you a heart to heart—with examples from her personal life, her marriage and her clients—on why you not only can trust yourself, but it’s actually critical that you do so. So many modern women are bogged down under their conditioning about what they should or shouldn’t do, and this causes a big problem when they feel a big life change stirring inside them. We intuitively know to do something that will shake things up, but we don’t follow through due to the abnormality or inconvenience of it, or because we listen to our heads over our hearts. Every time we do this, I call it abandoning ourselves, and every time we abandon ourselves, we strengthen that muscle of DISTRUST that perpetuates more suffering and self-doubt. Listen in for how to reverse engineer this cycle to choose yourself, to start trusting yourself and watching the miracles and magic that happen in every area of your life on the other side of that. Moms Demand Action for Gun Reform with Jackie Shelley

In this robust conversation, Jackie shares several pieces of good news where this fight is concerned and gives us not only hope, but also next steps. It’s a must-listen, especially for those of us who are looking to understand exactly how this affects us all, but especially people of color. This was not clearly stated in this conversation, but deserved to be: “Black Americans are disproportionately impacted by gun violence. They experience 10 times the gun homicides, 18 times the gun assault injuries, and nearly 3 times the fatal shootings by police of white Americans.” (from the Everytown website) More about Jackie Shelley: Jackie Shelley is the SC state leader of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America--the leading force for gun violence prevention, with chapters in all 50 states and a powerful grassroots network that works at the local, state, and federal level to create change.  Upon graduating Clemson University, Jackie taught high school English and served as yearbook adviser in the public school system.  After deciding to start a family, she became a stay-at-home mom and weekly volunteer in her kids' classrooms.  Devastated by the mass shooting of first graders at Sandy Hook elementary, Jackie started the Charleston, SC group of Moms Demand Action and has served in a leadership capacity ever since.  She lives in the Charleston area with her husband, two sons, and a space-invading pug named Zelda. More about Moms Demand Action: Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. We pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. We also work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know that gun violence is preventable, and we’re committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.
