The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 069: How to Become Your Most Confident Self

Do you consider yourself a very confident person? Or, do you feel that you're not very confident? People often think of confidence as binary, where you either have it or you don't, either you're a confident person or you're not. My special guest today, Angel Johnstone, reframes confidence and helps us understand how we all have areas in which we act confidently, and other areas in which we don't act confidently, or we don't act confidently yet. Angel Johnstone is a writer of erotica and short stories and creates confidence building programs and events for women, and she teaches us how we can become more comfortable owning our own confidence. To learn more about Angel Johnstone, you can connect with her on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/confidenceiscatchy/), and check out her website (https://www.confidenceiscatchy.com/). To learn about her program, Reignite Your Sexy, go to https://www.confidenceiscatchy.com/ReigniteYourSexyCourse. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 067: Talking About Race

Talking about race can be extremely difficult for many of us, but without being able to discuss issues around race there can be no healing around race, and we desperately need healing and bridging the racial divide. My guest today, Milagros Phillips, is an author, speaker, seminar leader, and race coach, and has spent the last 25 years bringing race literacy to universities, national leaders, corporations, and non-profits, and I am thrilled to bring her wisdom to The PurposeGirl Podcast. Today's episode is longer than our typical episode because I haven't covered race on this podcast yet and I wanted a very thorough discussion, and my guest today is incredibly knowledgeable and eloquent. Milagros starts with a very important history of racism. Milagros says that ignorance is key to maintaining racism, and she is passionate about educating people and therefore helping combat racism. In order to move forward we need to be willing to sit in discomfort, to listen to others talk about what is happening to them, to hear the experiences of others, and I hope that this conversation brings you greater understanding. It certainly opened my eyes. To learn more about Milagros Phillips, you can connect with her on Facebook (RaceHealer and RaceHealer TV) and LinkedIn (Milagros Phillips), check out her websites (https://www.milagrosphillips.com/ and https://www.racehealertv.com), and watch her TEDx talk (https://www.milagrosphillips.com/ted-x-talk). You can find her books on Amazon: 11 Reasons to Become Race Literate (https://amzn.to/2Y3wVGG), 8 Essentials to a Race Conversation (https://amzn.to/2L4VGij), and Speaking Race in Healthcare (https://amzn.to/2IY1Fma). Milagros recommends the book, Women Who Run with the Wolves, and you can get that at Amazon as well (https://amzn.to/2IUMaeO). It would really mean a lot to me if you would go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review (hopefully a great one!), leave a 5 star rating, subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode, and download the episodes! The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 066: The Whole Woman

Too often women tend to the needs of others at the expense of themselves, taking care of everyone else, and in so doing end up suppressing a part of themselves. In order to be truly happy, however, we need to embrace and nurture our many different facets. In today's episode I discuss the pieces that make up the whole women – archetypes -- and how we can start making sure we're embracing and nurturing our whole selves. I also mention the Women's Happiness Summit, which is being held online from June 17 – June 20, 2019. In the Women's Happiness Summit you'll be able to watch 24 interviews with experts discussing different aspects of women's happiness. Registration is completely free, so if you have not yet registered, I invite you to go to http://womenshappinesssummit.com and register. If you're listening to this after June 20, you can still head over there and get the recordings that you will have missed. I also mention my fourth annual Goddess Girls Retreat, which I'm holding in South Beach (Miami Beach, Florida), the first weekend in August. If you're interested in learning more about it, go to http://goddessgirlsretreat.com. As of the recording of this episode there are still spots available. I mention a favorite book of mine, The Mists of Avalon, which you can get at Amazon [https://amzn.to/2WDhHqt]. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 065: Seven Steps to Wealth

One of my top priorities coming into 2019 was to get on top of my finances in a more intentional way. This is an area in which I haven't felt very confident and I'm sure many of you can relate, but today's guest is going to help us with this. Hilary Hendershott is a Certified Financial Planner, leading fiduciary financial advisor, business owner, podcast host, and wealth coach with over 18 years of industry experience, and she leads her clients and audiences to financial freedom from her own experiences and expertise. Hilary shares her 7 Steps to Wealth actionable framework, advice on what to look for in a financial advisor, and so much more! You can learn more about Hilary Hendershott at https://www.hilaryhendershott.com/, learn about an amazing program she talked about at https://www.50kwealthmultiplier.com/, catch her podcast, Profit Boss Radio, and follow her on Twitter (@hilarythecfp). Hilary recommends the book, The Entrepreneurial Myth, and you can get it at Amazon [https://amzn.to/2KvU40v]. Oh, and by the way, Hilary and I talked about how long it would take to reach a million dollars if you start with one penny and double it every day, and it turns out that you'd pass 1 million dollars on the 27th day! The power of compounding -- which Hilary talks about! The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 064: Speaking Our Truth

Women's rights and freedoms have been under attack for years. We are typically paid less than men for the same work even when we have the same education and experience. We are abused in a wide variety of ways, and in ways that men don't usually face (or that they don't face as often or as pervasively). And here in the United States there have been a number of alarming developments recently around a woman's reproductive freedoms and laws about women's bodies. I don't usually dive directly into political issues, but if I'm urging all of you to speak your truth fully, then I need to speak mine as well. Some of you may disagree with what I say in this episode, but I hope that you can disagree respectfully, which seems to be harder and harder for many these days. A big inspiration for me in addressing these issues in this episode is a coaching client of mine, Jenna King-Shepard, who is currently featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine (https://www.cosmopolitan.com/politics/a27572832/i-had-abortion-in-alabama/) and who has been facing a tremendous and horrible backlash for speaking her truth. In order to live as the happy, empowered women we were born to be, we must speak our voice, we must speak our truth. That's what I'm doing on this podcast, and that's what I'm urging all of you to do as well. I also mention my fourth annual Goddess Girls Retreat, which I'm holding in South Beach (Miami Beach, Florida), the first weekend in August. If you're interested in learning more about it, go to http://goddessgirlsretreat.com. I invite you to leave me voicemail at http://purposegirl.com/voicemail, and tell me your name, where you're from, what you love about The PurposeGirl Podcast, and what topics you'd love to hear on this show. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 063: Managing Our Emotions through Movement

On The PurposeGirl Podcast I teach a range of tools for working with your mindset -- things I've learned in my coaching practice, through positive psychology, and through my own personal work. In the last year or so I've discovered that our emotions get stuck in our body, and through a women's program that I've been a part of I learned how to move my emotions through my body, and it's really helped me manage some of my tougher emotions and bring me greater peace and happiness. It's important to feel our full range of emotions, to own them all, and it's also critical that we understand how to manage them in healthy ways, and my special guest today is the perfect person to help us with this. Bernadette Pleasant is an intoxicating, energetic, fiery sensual Speaker and Somatic Healer, and the Creator of Femme!, a mind-body wellness program. She has spent a lifetime exploring creative visualizations and celebrations of the human form, from sensual dance to somatic healing. A gifted healer, dancer, and entrepreneur, she channels her personal journeys and her radical empathy into transformative, immersive experiences that empower and celebrate people of all genders, ages, sizes, and fitness levels. Bernadette travels globally empowering all through classes, private workshops, retreats and conference engagements. Bernadette and I discuss the importance of moving our emotions through our bodies in healthy ways instead of letting them get stuck there, feeling all our feelings in their full intensity and not stifling them, and then moving past the more challenging emotions. You can learn more about Bernadette's Femme! led Experiences and Events here (https://www.livefemme.com/organizer/bernadette-pleasant/). She has certified and licensed teachers all over the USA, as well as China, Canada and the UK, and their events are always listed on their website (https://www.livefemme.com/find-a-class/). She's also holding a Femme! Teacher Training and Immersion in Baltimore in June, and you can get the Femme! Ebook on Self Care Rituals here (https://mailchi.mp/livefemme.com/selfcareritualebook). You can also follow her on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/LiveFemme/) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/livefemme/). Bernadette recommends the book Pussy: A Reclamation, by Regina Thomashauer, which I've recommended on this podcast in the past, and you can get it at Amazon [https://amzn.to/2Ezkf2T]. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 062: Step Into Your True Goddess Nature

Every woman is a goddess. I don't mean that in a mythological or religious way, like Aphrodite or Parvati. I mean that every woman is deserving of being adored and worshipped. However, there are a number of factors that get in the way of our feeling like a goddess (self-doubt, perfectionism, and beating yourself up), and in today's episode I dive into these and show you how you can get past them to step into your true goddess nature. I also announce my fourth annual Goddess Girls Retreat, which I'm holding in South Beach (Miami Beach, Florida), the first weekend in August. If you're interested in learning more about it, go to http://goddessgirlsretreat.com. The PurposeGirl Podcast Episode 061: The Struggle with Busyness

Everyone is short on time. You ask someone you haven't seen in a while how they are and the odds are that they'll tell you that they're so busy. But running around feeling rushed and pressed for time all the time is no way to live our happiest life, so what can we do about it? My special guest today is the perfect person to speak to this. Valorie Burton is a bestselling author and founder of the Coaching and Positive Psychology Institute (CaPP), has served clients in over 40 states and ten countries and written twelve books on personal development, is a frequent guest expert for the TODAY Show, CNN, Dr. Oz, Oprah Magazine, NPR, Essence and many others, has spoken to hundreds of organizations, and has a master's degree in applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree in journalism from Florida A&M University, and a BA from Florida State University. Val says that because there is more information coming at us than at any time in history, we're being flooding and we're being faced with false urgencies, where we feel that because something is in front of us it must be very urgent. We feel heightened expectations on us because in our society today, we can do so much more in less time, and we feel that pressure. Val struggled with these issues herself and now teaches others how to control their time instead of letting time control them. Val explores the relationship between time and money and how that's changed over the years, discusses experiments she's been conducting with her own use of time, both professionally and personally, and speaks to the importance of living your life in a way that holds meaning and is not just about addressing all the false urgencies. To learn more about Valorie Burton, you can sign up for her inspiring weekly e-newsletter at www.valorieburton.com, and follow her at www.facebook.com/valorieburton, www.instagram.com/valorieburton, and www.twitter.com/valorieburton. You can find Valorie's books at Amazon, including Successful Women Think Differently (https://amzn.to/2He1p2R), What's Really Holding You Back (https://amzn.to/2YjQqdR), and her latest book, It's About Time (https://amzn.to/2E1Dh1s). In this episode I asked you to leave me voicemail at http://purposegirl.com/voicemail, and tell me your name, where you're from, what you love about The PurposeGirl Podcast, and what topics you'd love to hear on this show. It would really mean a lot to me if you would go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review (hopefully a great one!), leave a 5 star rating, subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode, and download the episodes!
