118 Coming Out as Transgender with Jennifer Booker

Scientific research has proven that we humans have developed the practice of classifying and discriminating things in order to make it easier for us to process our reality. This basically means that our brain feels more comfortable labeling and then placing stuff into well-defined boxes. Unfortunately, it seems that our society has also adopted this method when it comes to dealing with gender, and many people have therefore learned to conceive of all gender-related issues as either male or female. In this episode of The PurposeGirl Podcast, I'm fortunate to be joined by Dr. Jennifer Booker. Dr. Jennifer Booker has three engineering degrees and just completed a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. She came out as transgender in 2013, and in 2019 published her story of coming out and going through transition in "The New Normal: Coming Out as Transgender in Midlife." Jennifer shares with us how attending a presentation at the Fringe Festival in Philadelphia almost 10 years ago served as the starting point of a deep journey of self-discovery and later her gender transition. In this episode, Dr. Booker and I discuss the following: Despite the latest social progress, transgender people's rights are still being debated. The concept of gender is far more complex, both physically and emotionally, than the social male/female convention. The importance of being true to ourselves, and the positive impact that can have on the way you feel. The fear of becoming our authentic selves is one of the things that can hold us from living our purpose. You can connect with Dr. Jennifer Booker at www.docjennifer.org It would really mean a lot to me if you would go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review (hopefully a great one!), leave a 5 star rating, subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode, and download the episodes! 115 Black Lives Matter

As I record this episode here in the United States, we are seeing boil over the anger, frustration, and rage over the killing of George Floyd, and more generally, police brutality disproportionately aimed at people of color and the systemic racism that has been so prevalent in our society. I typically don't dive into what's going on in the news, but this is not news. This has been going on for a long, long time. And either I speak up and run the risk of offending people, or I stay silent for fear of saying the wrong thing. Since I believe in uplifting people to speak their truth, I'm going to speak mine, as imperfectly as I might do it. I apologize in advance if my words are inelegant, if I "say the wrong thing," and I'm open to learning and doing better. I talk about my own journey of coming to terms with my white privilege, just how unaware I've been, and what I've started to do to change that. And I offer a collection of resources that I've started learning from and that you might find helpful as well. I give action steps that you can take with your local government and police force, a list of organizations to which you can donate, businesses you can support, ways to have impact within your own company and even family, and a variety of things you can do on a day to day basis. 114 Sex Matters! with Dr. Jennifer Berman

It's a fact that good sexual experiences are crucial when it comes to our physical, mental and emotional health. Besides being a known source of pleasure, sex also boosts our immune system and improves our overall wellbeing. Unfortunately, despite scientific and psychological progress made in the field, there are still many women out there who are not able to enjoy sex and sexuality, and have to deal with the frustration this causes. In this episode of The PurposeGirl Podcast, I'm fortunate to be joined by Dr. Jennifer Berman, co-host on CBS' daytime talk show "The Doctors," world-renowned expert, NY Times best- selling author and one of the nation's leading authorities in the field of female sexual health. Dr. Berman emphasizes how important it is for women to dig deep in order to discover their very own sexual preferences, as well as being confident enough to share them with their partners. In this episode, Dr. Berman and I discuss the following: The current pandemic context as a chance to reconsider relationships and re-connect with what really matters. The concept of brain-genital connections, and the importance of developing these if you haven't already. How cannabis can help diminish the frontal cortex "inner talking" that usually makes it difficult for women to physically connect when having sex. Hormonal shifts that women experience during pre-menopause, and some natural medicines that are useful when having to cope with these. How likely it is to fall back in love with somebody. You can learn more about Dr. Berman's work on her official website (https://bermansexualhealth.com/), Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/JenBermanMD/), Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/jenbermanmd/) and Twitter account (https://twitter.com/jenbermanmd). 113 Creating Deep Sisterhood Connections Even at a Distance

There have been so many times in my life, some wonderful and some really rough times, when I've truly needed deep connection with women. And even if this connection has to be made long-distance, as it is while I'm recording this during the COVID-19 quarantine, it's still important to nurture. There is something truly powerful to be found in deep connections among women, and I hope this episode helps you to see some new ways to foster these special relationships in your own life. In today's episode I talk about… My baby blessing, held during the COVID-19 quarantine, and how this was intentionally designed to foster deep connection among a large group of women. The women's circle I held the morning of my wedding. The importance of sisterhood across the centuries. Ways that I go deep with girlfriends right now, even at a physical distance, and why it's so important. The value and beauty of celebrating with women. Examples of ways you can take your conversations to much deeper levels, even remotely. I mention a few programs that I'm currently leading: EMPOWERED and Goddess on Purpose. If you're interested in learning more about them and finding out when I'll be running them next, email me (carin@carinrockind.com). 112 From Courage to Confidence with Amy Klien

Have you ever found yourself just waiting to feel more confident before undertaking a certain activity? Maybe postponing starting your own business or asking for that promotion until the fear of rejection or failure minimizes? Well, in order to make that happen, you'll have to be courageous first. This is how it works: The more courage you have, the more you'll take action when you're scared; therefore, the more confidence you'll have in yourself. In this episode of The PurposeGirl Podcast, I'm fortunate to be joined by Amy Klien, co-founder and CEO of Give Her Courage, a retail company with a mission to build courage and confidence within young girls and women all around the world. Amy shares with us some major tips in order to help women become more self-assured, risk-takers and eventually turn into the CEOs of their own lives. As she puts it: "Confidence is being comfortable in your skin and loving all of your own imperfections." In this episode, Amy and I discuss the following: In comparison with men, women are less used to self-promoting or taking risks because they are usually too afraid to failing or not looking perfect. Self-image seems to drop significantly among girls at the age of ten to twelve years, when all the bullying and meanness of middle school kicks in. The importance of parents encouraging their kids to do activities they feel passionate about. Social media is a powerful tool, but it must be approached with moderation, since it can have quite a negative impact on young girls. How focusing on things related to their own wellbeing and personal development can make it easier for girls to cope with other people's opinions and judgments. It's key to put failure in a positive light: if you don't fail, then you're not trying. Every time you fail, you learn something that gets you closer to your goal. From corporate business executives to Instagram Influencers, Amy and her partner Kelly have released books, jewelry and other retail products to help instill confidence in young girls. With every purchase of one of their products they donate 10% to charities that help give girls a fair shot. 111 We're All Here to Mother the World

This episode is being released a few days before Mothers Day here in the United States, and it's a very special Mothers Day for me, as my first baby is due in about two months! So I want to take this time to honor all mothers out there and the amazing work you're doing taking care of your kids and taking care of yourselves in these crazy days of the COVID-19 quarantine. And I want to honor all of you women who do not have a child of your own, because you are a mother as well, just in different – and no less important -- ways. In today's episode I talk about… My own amazing mother and how she served as such a great role model for me. How we are all here to mother the world, and how we all DO act as a mother, whether or not we have a child from our own womb. How Mothers Day is an opportunity for us to mother ourselves. How I combine my background in positive psychology with studies in the divine feminine, bringing together science with heart and soul and feminine wisdom. Some of the archetypes of the feminine and how they relate to Mothers Day. It would really mean a lot to me if you would go to Apple Podcasts and leave me a review (hopefully a great one!), leave a 5 star rating, subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode, and download the episodes! 110 Know Yourself to Love Yourself with Marta Spirk

Are you a woman who loves herself? While many women say yes, at the same time they also admit to have disrespectful behaviors towards themselves on a regular basis – Taking on too much in order to avoid disappointing somebody else, as well as not making enough time for self-care for the sake of meeting the needs of others are usually clear symptoms of not loving yourself that much. In this episode of The PurposeGirl Podcast, I'm fortunate to be joined by Marta Spirk; writer, podcaster and woman empowerment coach. Her focus is teaching women how to increase their self-esteem and improve self-image by going on a deep-dive in inner work and personal development. Marta shares with us how getting to know yourself deeply and learning what true self-love means to you can have an awesome impact in your life. No better words than her own: "An empowered woman is a woman who takes responsibility for her happiness, her success, and for anything that's positive in her life, instead of expecting it from somebody else." In this episode, Marta and I discuss the following: Self-awareness as the beginning of self-love: you can't love somebody you don't know! There's not a standard recipe that works for everybody – You must find out what true self-love means to you. Specificity equals success! Reviewing your own personal background is crucial to understanding why you have come to develop certain aspects of your personality. Keeping a "brag book" is a great strategy to overcome your "negativity bias." Confidence has a lot to do with self-image and how you feel about your body, because that's what makes the first impression. You can take a closer look at Marta's work on her official web page (www.martaspirk.com), Facebook page (www.facebook.com/spirkmarta), Instagram account (www.instagram.com/martaspirk) and LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/in/marta-spirk).
